Chapter 556: Chapter 74: Sneak Home from Behind

Some members of the team had already begun to plan, to probe Anvis’s intentions discreetly after the affairs of the Radiant Secret Realm were over, and then decide what kind of attitude they should take towards him.

Regardless, after integrating the strength of Anvis and his companions, the assault team’s power increased greatly once again. Princess Starlight also issued the command to take down the entire tower as quickly as possible.

Clearly, the prophet of the Third Princess had also foreseen some unusual occurrences.

Anvis appeared to nonchalantly glance at Master Sims, who looked sickly and was following at the center of the team. He could perceive the severe injuries on this so-called Seventh Rank Great Prophet and the significant depletion of his Destiny Power.

This kind of situation usually arose when a prophet used some kind of forbidden Secret of Destiny technique to recklessly peep into the future.

As the group continued to climb, they successively broke through the fourth and fifth floors.

The enemies did not send any stronger beings, but used a sea of Low Rank monstrous creatures and faceless followers to slow down the team’s progress.

Both Anvis and the Third Princess sensed something unusual in all of this, but faced with the multitude of monstrous creatures sent by the enemies, they could not break through quickly.

The enemies had made up their minds not to clash directly but to delay the group’s progress with masses of expendable forces. These creatures with little to no intelligence were also extremely fierce, and it was as if they didn’t care about the loss of any number of their kind.

Even though Princess Starlight used a powerful attack once again, clearing a lot of creatures at once, it still took the group a Magic Time and a half to get through these two floors.

But on the sixth floor of the high tower, the situation was completely different.

The two Green Flame Followers who had previously fled were now gathered on this floor. Behind them, startlingly, there were three more entities shrouded in the same gloomy green flames.

Unlike the previous two followers, who still maintained humanoid bodies, these three new Green Flame Followers had completely lost their human shapes.

One looked like a giant black nesting spider, another resembled a decaying pterosaur, and the last one was simply a massive shapeless dark lump.

At the same time, the entire area of the sixth floor had turned into something resembling a fleshy nest. The ground and walls were enveloped in writhing dark green flesh, and stepping on it even allowed one to feel the slight trembling beneath their feet.

These fleshes had very high Magic Resistance and intense chaotic radiation, which made them hard to clear while forcing the group to constantly consume a lot of Magic Power to maintain their defenses, and yet the enemy’s combat power was greatly enhanced.

At this point, the group finally encountered a real tough battle. The resistance of the enemies was completely different from the first five floors. With the environmental advantage, the ordinary monstrous creatures all possessed combat strength comparable to the Seventh Rank Level.

The high-end combat power of the enemy was not inferior to the group, and under the influence of Divine Power, the three newly emerged followers also possessed combat strength that just about reached the threshold of the Ninth Rank.

Even though the princes, princesses, and the descendants of the Four Great Families used all their methods, they could only maintain a standstill.

Seeing this situation, Anvis suddenly felt a sense of urgency.

A vague and mysterious premonition was reminding him that if he could move faster now, perhaps there was still hope to save Evan.

Looking at Prince Lanno and others like Landon who were consistently underperforming around, Anvis decided not to wait any longer.

These people definitely had some cards up their sleeves, but since they were not of one mind, they probably would not use them until absolutely necessary.

So, it might be better to take advantage of their distraction towards the enemies below, and use this opportunity to infiltrate the top of the tower and interrupt the priest’s ritual.

At this thought, Anvis slightly moved his left hand, pressing it on the cover of the Ancient Secret Scripture. Invisibly, an independent clone sealed within the pages swapped places with his original position, while his true self stealthily escaped using the effects of the “Dark Side of the Moon”.

All of this was done very covertly, so much so that even Yalanis and Prince Lanno by Anvis’s side didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

After all, although Anvis’s participation in the battle had a significant impact, he fought almost entirely through summoned creatures and other external forces. His true self was always hanging back, essentially uninvolved, so his presence or absence hardly made a difference.

Only Landon’s consciousness, within which a Dark Crow faintly perceived something, cast a suspicious glance in the direction of Anvis, but discovered nothing.

As a Class Magic spell that once fooled a Ninth Rank Limit Councilman, the myriad of bizarre creatures were completely unaware of Anvis, who was shrouded in the effects of the “Dark Side of the Moon”.

Moreover, Anvis deliberately kept a certain distance from those Green Flame Followers, and after spending some time, he successfully infiltrated the passageway leading to the seventh level.

However, before actually entering the seventh level, Anvis first changed his attire, removing all Magic Ceremony Dress decorations and instead donning a nondescript Magic Power Isolation Cloak and mask.

He remembered Yalanis’s tale of exposure; under the Priest’s strength, the seventh level had already formed a space similar to a Divine Domain. He was not willing to bet on the effect of the Dark Side of the Moon to fool the peeping of Divine Power.

Nevertheless, what slightly reassured Anvis was that upon stepping into the seventh level, no sudden incidents occurred around him.

Compared to the sixth level below, the seventh level’s space was not very large. In the center of the gray-white rock construction of the great hall, a jet-black stone Altar that obviously was newly built and out of style with the hall itself stood erect.

A Priest in a dark green ceremonial robe stood at the top of the Altar, facing a wisp of a faint green flame at the core of the Altar, doing something unknown.

Surrounding the Altar, a circle of differently dressed but equally fanatical individuals knelt, facing the Altar. Wisps of smoke-like material slowly rose from their bodies, converging toward the green flame at the core of the Altar.

Among these people, Anvis saw many familiar faces. After quickly scanning the crowd, he soon spotted his second brother, Evan.

After carefully observing, Anvis realized that the green flame seemed to be absorbing some kind of Destiny Trait from the people.

This extraction was unlike the strength feedback from the Net of Destiny obtained by Prophets who assist the Child of Destiny in achieving their goals. This extraction directly stripped the individual’s own destiny and gathered it onto oneself.

If that green flame were a person, the effect would be to forcibly separate the adventures that were destined for them and transfer those experiences to oneself.

Such methods of destiny stripping could also be performed by a High Rank Prophet relying on their own Strength, but practically no one would do so.

That’s because it would not only face severe backlash from the Net of Destiny but also cause their own destiny to be influenced and restricted by the original owner’s destiny, turning from a chess player into a chess piece.

As an Eighth Rank Prophet, Anvis immediately understood. The Priest intended to use this method to entangle the green flame deeply with the Net of Destiny of the Main Material World, thereby pinpointing a return coordinate for the outer god that was the source of the Green Flame.

He must not be allowed to continue any further.

After estimating the maximum safe distance, Anvis immediately used Stealth to move beside Evan.

As an enemy who wielded the power of an outer god, the Priest was a formidable foe, and Anvis could not be sure that he could defeat the opposition. The baseline Task he set for himself was to sabotage the ritual, then stall for time until the Ninth Rank support from the outside could arrive.

In that case, if a major battle broke out later, he would not have the spare capacity to ensure the safety of these people.

The best strategy was to send them to a safe place in advance or to rouse them, allowing them to figure out a way to save themselves.
