Rebirth in the 90s: Melting My Devoted Mr. Iceberg

Chapter 590: Who Becomes the Bait

Chapter 590: Who Becomes the Bait

The tourists were scared away, the tide receded, and the Water Monster quieted down, slowly healing its wounds.

The lake water suddenly surged, then receded just as suddenly, captured on camera by a tourist. The next day, the news and newspapers reported about the sudden tide changes in the lake at the forest park.

However, someone leaked information about the existence of a Water Monster in the lake, causing widespread panic. The government immediately ordered for the issue to be resolved swiftly.

The following day, after breakfast, Qian Cheng was called to the city government. City leaders had formed a special group to discuss solutions to the problem.

Some people proposed draining the lake; without water, the Water Monster would naturally be exposed. Others suggested bombing it directly to kill the Water Monster.

However, Qian Cheng felt that neither method was appropriate. The lake in the forest park wasn’t too big nor too small, but draining it would flood nearby roads and some houses. Additionally, if the lake’s water was drained, it would have to be replenished, wasting manpower, material, and financial resources.

As for dropping bombs, it wouldn’t just bomb the Water Monster, but also the fish and shrimp. Moreover, the Water Monster was cunning, and the entire lake was its domain; bombs might not even hit it.

Qian Cheng’s idea was to use human bait, then have a good marksman shoot the Water Monster directly.

This idea was inspired when a young boy hit the Water Monster with a slingshot; if a stone could hit it, a bullet definitely could. They just needed a sharpshooter.

Moreover, Qian Cheng’s marksmanship was quite good; he was confident he could kill the Water Monster with one shot. However, the question remains, who would be the bait.

After all, being the bait was very dangerous; a single mistake and the person could end up in the Water Monster’s stomach. They discussed it all morning without reaching a conclusion, then went home for lunch.

While eating, Qian Cheng told Jiang Xue about the meeting and mentioned that they needed someone to be the bait. Upon hearing this, Jiang Xue immediately laughed and said, "Qian Cheng, others can’t be the bait, but I can be!"

"Xue’er, don’t be ridiculous!" Qian Cheng said seriously, looking at Jiang Xue. He had, of course, considered Jiang Xue, but he didn’t want her to do something so dangerous.

"Qian Cheng, I’m not being ridiculous. Listen to me, it’s most appropriate for me to be the bait, isn’t it?" Jiang Xue looked at Qian Cheng seriously, knowing it might be dangerous for others, but not for her. Because in her space, even if she got into the Water Monster’s stomach, she wouldn’t be scared; she had her space.

Qian Cheng naturally understood the validity of Jiang Xue’s words, but he couldn’t bear to let her take the risk. Previously, when the Water Monster had injured Jiang Xue, he already felt guilty enough.

"Xue’er, please let me think it over!" Qian Cheng frowned and said.

"Okay!" Jiang Xue didn’t push him further, willing to give Qian Cheng time. She believed Qian Cheng would come around.

After lunch, Qian Cheng went back to the city government, while Jiang Xue went to rest. The afternoon continued with meetings; people had already accepted Qian Cheng’s plan, now they were discussing who would be the bait.

They debated all afternoon, but no one was willing to be the sacrificial person. Finally, Qian Cheng had no choice but to bring up Jiang Xue.

The person in charge was shocked when they heard Qian Cheng wanted his own wife to be the bait, and said, "Major Mu, maybe you should reconsider?"
