Chapter 1013: Birth
Chapter 1013: Birth
Jing Chu had no idea about the pain Yang Zhongyi was in. If she knew, she would definitely advise him to follow the family’s arrangements. She didn’t have any special feelings for him. Even though in the eyes of others, Yang Zhongyi was considered an excellent match, she just didn’t like him.She really had no opinions about who her other half would be. She wasn’t lying; she definitely wouldn’t let her father and Aunt Jiang worry. When the time comes for marriage, she’ll just find someone who treats her well. As for romance and love, she really hadn’t thought about it.
Moreover, watching her brother and sister-in-law being so affectionate, she actually felt uncomfortable.
Two more days passed. In the morning, without having breakfast, Old Yang started loading everything they had prepared into the car.
Zhao Xiaoli was still acting like everything was fine, but she felt a bit hungry.
Breakfast was carrot porridge, each person got an egg pancake. You could roll it with shredded potatoes or bean sprouts.
Zhao Xiaoli had a bowl of porridge and a pancake, yet she still felt she hadn’t eaten enough. However, Jiang Xinyu stopped her and said, "Have a glass of milk later."
"Alright. My appetite has really increased."
"As long as you can eat, it’s good." Indeed, Zhao Xiaoli could definitely be considered chubby now. This was because she was eating well and was in a good mood during her pregnancy.
Zhang Qiu’e had long packed her things and loaded them into the car, just waiting to leave after breakfast.
The snow on the road had melted, making it particularly muddy. Therefore, Old Yang drove slowly. Luckily, this was an old road used for years; though muddy, it wouldn’t delay the car.
It usually took an hour to reach the county, but this time it took two hours.
"Xiao Li, you wait in the car first, I’ll go handle the procedures."
"No need, I’ll go with you. The doctor will have to check on me too, right?"
Old Yang thought that made sense, so the three of them got out of the car together.
The last checkup was done by this doctor, who after feeling her pulse, directly processed the hospital admission.
Old Yang let Zhao Xiaoli sit on the bed and wait while he and Zhang Qiu’e moved things in trip after trip. Fortunately, the room had three beds and the temperature was decent. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be anywhere to stay.
With nothing to do now, Old Yang asked the doctor if they could take a walk. So Zhang Qiu’e stayed in the ward to watch over, and the couple went to the supply and marketing cooperative.
To be honest, the supply and marketing cooperative was the only place to walk around, but Zhao Xiaoli didn’t need anything and didn’t know what to buy. However, when she saw brown sugar, there was no purchase limit today; as long as you had sugar coupons, you could buy.
"Old Yang, buy a few pounds of brown sugar. Although we have some at home, I will need it in the future. The family often makes eight-treasure porridge, and the kids like to add brown sugar, so the consumption is large. Besides, I am about to give birth, and Ding Xiaojuan is only a month younger than me. When the time comes, we can give brown sugar as gifts, the same goes for Jing Chu and Guodong."
Old Yang directly took out sugar coupons for twenty pounds and handed them to the salesperson. The person took one look, and thought, wow, here’s someone who has money.
The couple strolled until noon before they went to a restaurant for lunch.
Today’s menu was sauerkraut stuffed pancakes and noodles. Old Yang ordered two bowls of noodles and three pancakes.
The sauerkraut stuffed food sold at the restaurant wasn’t tasty; it didn’t have much oil. It just tasted sour. However, seeing his wife eat heartily, Old Yang didn’t stop her from eating more.
After they were full, the two strolled back to the hospital slowly.
"Sister Zhang, you go eat at the cafeteria. We’ve already eaten."
Zhang Qiu’e nodded, went to the cafeteria, and had a bowl of sorghum porridge, a three-grain steamed bun, and a bit of pickles to fill herself up.
When she returned to the ward, she saw the couple resting on their respective beds. She quietly lay down on a bed as well.
Jiang Xinyu had instructed her not to leave, so if something happened suddenly, people wouldn’t be missing.
Zhao Xiaoli was woken up by pain. She just felt her stomach twisting in pain.
Old Yang noticed her discomfort and immediately rushed over.
"Xiao Li, Xiao Li, what’s wrong with you?"
"Old Yang, my stomach hurts."
Old Yang didn’t even turn his head, "Sister Zhang, quickly find a doctor."
Zhang Qiu’e ran out in a panic. Shortly after, a doctor came and took a look at Zhao Xiaoli’s condition.
"Family members, support the mother-to-be to the delivery room."
Old Yang wanted to carry his wife, but was stopped by the doctor.
"Let her walk, you just support her from the side; she needs to move since she’s about to give birth."
Old Yang helped his sweaty wife up. Zhao Xiaoli smiled at him, "I’m fine, don’t worry."
Old Yang forced a smile, "Let’s walk slowly."
He left Zhang Qiu’e behind because there were many people in the hospital, and with so many things brought for the baby, the ward couldn’t be left unattended.
A young nurse took the diapers and swaddling cloth prepared for the baby and went into the delivery room.
Old Yang supported Zhao Xiaoli and slowly headed to the delivery room. It was already past two in the afternoon. Today, Zhao Xiaoli was the only one giving birth in the delivery room, so it was quite quiet outside the delivery room.
But Old Yang thought it was too quiet; he didn’t like it. However, there was nothing he could do but wait anxiously outside, unable to do anything else.
Zhao Xiaoli was helped into the delivery room, and now she began to feel scared.
"No need to worry, just take off your clothes and lie on the bed. We’ll disinfect you and do one more check."
Outside, Old Yang was anxiously helpless. He had never experienced this kind of anxiety before, feeling deeply worried.
He frequently checked his watch, hoping time would pass quickly so his wife would suffer less.
But time did not change for anyone. He felt restless, couldn’t sit or stand still. He had particularly keen hearing and could hear the muted grunts and screams of a woman.
In the end, he ended up leaning against the door, listening to the sounds inside to feel slightly more at ease.
Suddenly, there was no more sound, and he got frightened. He wanted to break in, but knew doing so would only cause trouble and delay his wife’s delivery.
Just when Old Yang was about to pull out all his thick hair, the door of the delivery room finally opened.
The nurse was startled by the man rushing over and, seeing his intense gaze, swallowed nervously, "Both the baby and the mother are safe."
Old Yang finally let out a sigh of relief. He asked with a trembling voice, "When will my wife come out?"
"She’ll be out soon."
At that moment, another nurse came out from behind, holding the baby.
"Family of Zhao Xiaoli."
"That’s me."
"Congratulations, your wife gave birth to a big healthy boy, weighing six pounds and eight ounces."
"Where is my wife?"
For the second time, Old Yang asked with his heart on edge.
"She’ll be wheeled out shortly; first, take your baby while we go fetch the mother."
"I’ll go help my wife, and you hold the baby," Old Yang didn’t dare to hold the baby.
The nurse was a bit puzzled; she had assisted in so many deliveries, but this was the first time encountering something like this.
"Not just anyone can enter the delivery room; you just hold onto your baby and wait here."
