Chapter 1001: Coming Home
Chapter 1001: Coming Home
"Alright, I’ll ask everyone. I don’t think anyone will disagree," Li Yungui said with a smile."Yes, and by then, we’ll pick three who perform well to be the quality inspectors and masters."
Li Yungui of course agreed with what Wei Kaiyun suggested. Once things were arranged, Li Yungui was left to handle it.
Within two days, everything was organized: each shift had ten people – one quality inspector and nine workers. They worked in three shifts.
The women were quite excited, not expecting that they could also become workers, so they were full of enthusiasm.
Although it wasn’t very smooth at first, because of their attitudes, everyone cherished this opportunity, and they quickly got the hang of it.
The advantage of the three shifts became evident: everyone still had energy when they got home from work.
The corn-shaking machine noticeably produced ten more units daily, which wasn’t a small amount.
As the overall leader, Lu Tiezhu no longer worked directly but intervened whenever there were issues.
A week went by like this, and Wei Kaiyun was a bit distracted. According to schedule, Old Yang should have been home by now. Did something happen on the way?
Jiang Xinyu knew Wei Kaiyun well enough to sense his silence over the past two days and could guess he was worried about Old Yang.
She was worried too, especially since they couldn’t get in touch with them; naturally, those at home would be concerned.
Sometimes, when you really fixate on something, it seems to happen. That night, Old Yang and the others arrived home.
Wei Kaiyun only relaxed when he saw both of them get out of the car.
"Haha, we’re back."
"It’s good that you’re back. Was the journey okay?"
"It was alright. We brought back some good stuff. Let’s quickly unload the truck."
It turned out Han Xiangjun found two big boxes of books and one box of calligraphy for Feifei, along with a box of clothes, toys, and comic books for the three of them.
There were also more than twenty bags of rice, ten barrels of oil weighing twenty pounds each. The remaining three bags contained sugar – one of white sugar, one of brown sugar, and one of rock sugar. Two bags of rice were bought by Chaoyang for his family.
Zhao Xiaoqiang had already called Li Yungui and his brother over, after all, they needed to settle the truck’s transport fees.
Li Yunqiang wrote a receipt, and Jiang Xinyu took out the money to pay the driver, but he declined a meal, so Jiang Xinyu had to give the young man some snacks to take with him.
Chaoyang also went home, pushing two bags of rice.
Since Old Yang came back, Zhao Xiaoli was very happy, always revolving around him.
Old Yang felt his heart melt. He had missed his wife dearly over the past month, especially since she’s expecting.
After dinner, Wei Kaiyun prepared bathwater for Old Yang. After being away for so long, a bath at home was a must.
"Xiaoli, you don’t need to help; go to the room and wait for me. I’ll be done soon."
"I’ll help you wash your back."
"No need, I don’t want you to get tired. I can manage by myself. Be good, go wait for me."
After coaxing his wife to leave, Old Yang quickly took a bath and tidied up a bit before entering the room.
Seeing his wife sitting on the kang, smiling at him, Old Yang stepped up quickly.
He picked up Zhao Xiaoli, letting her sit on his lap, eagerly kissing her and murmuring, "I missed you so much, missed you so much."
Zhao Xiaoli responded passionately to Old Yang, and soon they were both under the covers.
Afterwards, Old Yang rubbed his wife’s large belly. In the month they hadn’t seen each other, it had grown significantly.
Feeling the baby’s movements, Old Yang smiled.
"There was no danger on the way, right?" Zhao Xiaoli held Old Yang’s other hand.
"No, it went smoothly. In the future, Chaoyang can handle the journey himself."
"I’m quite selfish, not wanting you to be away from me for too long. I imagine if it were just the two of us living together, I couldn’t handle you being gone for so long."
"I’ll try not to go out in the future and stay home to keep you company."
Zhao Xiaoli knew her husband was just coaxing her, but she was willing to listen.
She never asked about his work, but knowing he could spend time with her now was already a blessing. He might be busier in the future, but at least for now, he’s by her side.
Old Yang hugged his wife close, and they lay tightly together. "Wife."
That warm feeling made them both reluctant to speak and spoil it.
Old Yang finally understood Wei Kaiyun; he had envied and teased him before, but now he had a life like that too.
This was fate; this was the person he was destined to be with.
"I brought some jewelry back for you from the Capital; they’re in the box. You haven’t looked yet, have you?"
"I haven’t had the chance, I’ve been too happy to think about it."
"Haha, these are what I’ve saved over the years, and there’s still more back at the house in the Capital."
"I love jewelry, but I can’t wear it outside. Wearing it out is nerve-wracking."
"Then wear it at home for me to see," Old Yang said, getting out of bed without dressing, opening a wooden box and taking out a flat, velvet-covered case.
"Why aren’t you wearing clothes? Don’t catch a cold."
"I’m healthy. This is the best piece of jewelry we have: a necklace. You can wear it under your clothes now, and no one will see."
The couple lay in bed, admiring the sparkling necklace.
"What is this made of?" Zhao Xiaoli happily picked it up, playing with it in her hands.
"Diamond."
"It’s so beautiful, and the stones are so large."
"Yes, they said this necklace could buy five four-entry courtyards in the Capital back then."
"That expensive?"
"Quite, but I’m not too familiar with these things. There are two necklaces in total, one for me and one for Xiao Wei. I imagine Xiao Wei has already given his to Xiao Jiang."
Zhao Xiaoli carefully placed it back in the box and set it aside.
"I wouldn’t dare wear it outside; I’d worry about losing it."
"These are meant to be worn, just for you to wear."
"But not now; when life gets better and it’s appropriate to wear jewelry, I’ll bring it out."
"There’s plenty more. You can choose for yourself tomorrow. They say jade is very nourishing. You could wear it."
"Okay, I’ll look tomorrow," Zhao Xiaoli said with a smile; what woman could resist the allure of jewelry?
Early the next morning, the whole family sat together for breakfast of fried dough sticks and corn grits porridge. It was cooked particularly thick, with the fragrance of corn in each bite.
Everyone had an egg each. Though it was necessary, there weren’t many left at home.
"When it thaws, build a chicken coop outside the yard. A larger one. It’s quite a hassle not having chickens at home and buying eggs," Shang Zhenkun said.
Jiang Xinyu smiled and shook her head, "That’s probably not feasible. There’s a limit to how many chickens you can keep. Even wanting to run a chicken farm isn’t possible.
There are quite a few elders in the village now who can still work; setting up a large chicken farm in the village would be great, but the required permits probably wouldn’t be approved."
