Chapter 529: Chapter 446: The Endearing Xiao Guai

"That man’s behavior tonight clearly shows he doesn’t like us! If he really gains entry into the family, he’ll likely target you first!"

There are countless examples in the circle of people resorting to any means necessary to fight over wealth.

Forget half-siblings, even full brothers and sisters fight as if their lives depend on it.

Leng Mochen grabbed her arm, "Don’t pace around. That’s not what I’m worried about! Mr. Leng Sr. won’t let a bastard child into the family. What I’m most concerned about is you and Buding’s safety!"

His greatest fear was the other party using underhanded tactics.

Li Si hugged him back and comforted him, "We’ll be fine! Do whatever you need to do. Tomorrow, I’ll let Xiao Guai out and tell everyone it’s been at someone else’s home for foster care. Now that it’s grown up, it can be Buding’s playmate. Xiao Guai can protect Buding and me! I haven’t been going out much lately, and if I stay home with the baby, surely nothing will happen!"

This was Li Si’s recent discovery—Xiao Guai had developed a hidden, invisible eye in the dent on its forehead. Normally, it wasn’t visible; it only revealed itself when Xiao Guai attacked, and the eye emitted electrical currents.

When fired, the currents could scorch the peach tree in the yard.

"Alright!" Leng Mochen didn’t object this time. Even though the villa had multiple layers of protection, there was always a chance of someone exploiting a loophole.

To ensure absolute safety, he was willing to forego other concerns for now.

Moreover, Buding loved Xiao Guai. A few days ago, when Li Si let Xiao Guai out in the bedroom, Buding had been ecstatic.

It was the first time he saw a monkey that moved and interacted with him. The monkey was so accommodating that it would perch near the baby’s crib and play with Buding.

A baby babbling "ah-ah" and a monkey chattering "ooh-aah"—the child and the monkey got along surprisingly well, leaving Li Si laughing until her stomach hurt, and even Leng Mochen couldn’t help but crack a smile.

The next day, after breakfast, Leng Mochen left for work, and Li Si let Xiao Guai out again. Initially, Sister Ding was very apprehensive about Xiao Guai, worried it might harm Buding.

But after just half a day of interaction, seeing how Xiao Guai wore a red plaid shirt and denim shorts while sitting on the sofa like a little adult, Sister Ding couldn’t help but take a liking to it.

Buding was thrilled beyond measure and kept asking Li Si to stand him up so he could stare at Xiao Guai, his dark, shiny eyes blinking curiously.

After finishing several bananas, Xiao Guai patted its belly and charmingly blew a kiss at its young master.

The encounter left Li Si and Sister Ding laughing so hard they had tears in their eyes.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Sister Ding, already instructed beforehand, quickly went to check who was outside.

If they were strangers, they wouldn’t be allowed in.

The screen showed Bai Shasha. "Hello! Si, hurry up and open the door!"

Li Si teased her with a grin, "Coming back without saying a word, did you bring anything tasty? If not, don’t bother coming in!"

"Oh come on! Why are you like this? Of course, I brought something!" Bai Shasha exclaimed indignantly, while Xu Er chuckled behind her.

"Alright, then!"

When Bai Shasha and Xu Er finally came in with bags upon bags, Bai Shasha couldn’t help but grumble, "I don’t see what’s so great about living in a villa. Even getting inside is a hassle! So many security checks!"

Xu Er rubbed his nose from behind, clearly aware of the reasons, though he couldn’t openly discuss them.

Li Si accepted one of her bags, then curiously asked, "What’s inside? So heavy!"

Bai Shasha extended one hand and launched into an explanation, "There are cherries from my grandma’s house, red sausages from our town, pine flower smoked pork belly, black fungus, and of course, the wild hazel mushrooms you’ve been craving.

My mom also packed some dried potato slices and shredded dried beans! Not sure if you want those or not."

"Wow! So many goodies! Please thank your mom and grandma for me—sorry for all the trouble!"

Bai Shasha squinted at her and teased, "What about me? I carried all of this from far away—shouldn’t you be thanking the delivery crew too?"

Li Si dug out slippers from the shoe cabinet for the two of them, chuckling, "Of course, my deepest thanks go to my dear Shasha! Come here, let me give you a kiss!"

"Get lost! Since when did you turn so cheeky? I’m a woman, and even I’m not spared! No wonder your Old Cold lives such a fiery existence!" Bai Shasha pretended to act disgusted but couldn’t hide the laughter spreading across her face as she slipped into her slippers and breezed past the screen toward the living room.

It seemed she heard Buding’s voice. Thankfully, the baby wasn’t sleeping—she’d been worried she might miss playing with her godson.

Li Si waved a playful fist at her back, "You’re the cheeky one!"

Xu Er ducked his head, pretending not to notice as he chuckled under his breath. If Li Si weren’t already married, sometimes he suspected she and Bai Shasha might actually be soulmates!

Thankfully! Thank goodness!

"Oh my gosh! Xiao Guai! When did you come back?" Bai Shasha’s shout reached them before Li Si and Xu Er made it to the living room.

Xu Er, meeting Xiao Guai for the first time, initially thought it was another person.

He only realized once they reached the living room that it was a large, yellow-haired monkey. Bai Shasha, completely engrossed, had her arms wrapped around Xiao Guai and refused to let go, "Xiao Guai, I missed you so much! Your heartless owner finally decided to retrieve you!"

Shooting an accusatory look at Li Si, she continued, "Ever since you got pregnant, you sent Xiao Guai away to someone else’s house for foster care.

I asked so many times—just send it to my house! I could’ve taken care of it after work or on my days off.

But no! Li Si was adamant, claiming its foster family had someone home every day to keep Xiao Guai company. She said if I were home every day, she’d give it to me to foster.

I nearly lost my temper! She knows full well I can’t quit my job and stay home every day!

Li Si is just impossible!"

Li Si ignored her accusatory gaze and motioned for Xu Er to sit down before asking Aunt Zhang, the new housekeeper, to make some tea and pour drinks.

With Xiao Guai now out, it quickly became the center of attention. Watching Bai Shasha swoon as she planted kisses on Xiao Guai’s forehead, Xu Er’s heart sank as he realized this monkey was allowing her into spaces he himself had never been permitted to touch.

Li Si noticed the shift in Xu Er’s expression and cleared her throat softly, hinting to Bai Shasha to tone it down.

Bai Shasha finally came to her senses and released Xiao Guai, turning her attention to teasing Sister Ding, who was holding Buding.

"Come on, godson! Let your godmother see how tall you’ve grown! Oh my, you’ve sprouted up, haven’t you!" Bai Shasha exclaimed theatrically, her face lit with exaggerated delight.

"It’s only been a few days—how quick can growth happen? By the way, have you just finished your thesis defense and returned?"

"I had no choice but to come back. It’s not good to take too much leave from work. I have to head back to the office tomorrow! I’ve been having so much fun recently. When your husband gets home, let’s go out for a good meal and reward me for my hard work!" Bai Shasha playfully winked, "I’ve earned it!"

"Alright, that sounds fair! Hey, by the way, is Xu Er’s head injury all healed up?" Li Si casually asked about the wound, which had been covered by Xu Er’s bangs for over half a month, making it barely visible now.

Xu Er casually brushed his bangs back, "It’s healed! Just occasional pain now and then."

The wound had healed well after the stitches were removed, but every time Bai Shasha saw it, her heart tightened, prompting her to dote on Xu Er even more.

Their relationship now was worlds apart from what it once had been.

Hearing Xu Er’s response, Bai Shasha’s face instantly tensed in concern as she questioned, "When have you been feeling pain again? Why didn’t you tell me?"

"Just occasional pain—nothing serious!" Xu Er feigned indifference.

The more nonchalant he acted, the more anxious Bai Shasha became. She leaned in close to examine his wound, insisting on checking whether it was infected or improperly healed.

Li Si, watching from the side, nearly burst from holding back her laughter.

These two clowns!
