Chapter 519: Chapter 436: Blessing in Disguise (Bonus Chapter for 40 Monthly Votes)

By the time they woke up, got ready, and went downstairs, Buding had also woken up. Sister Ding was holding him, wandering around the living room.

"Little Buding! Hungry?"

Li Si clapped her hands, and Buding giggled, stretching out his chubby little arms to run toward Li Si.

Leng Mochen rubbed his nose from behind, silently thinking what a cheeky little rascal Buding was—it seemed even he shared the same taste as himself.

Li Si seemed to read his mind, throwing him a playful glare.

She unbuttoned her blouse to feed Buding.

Looking around the house, she didn’t see that new helper, Xiao Tong. Curiously, she asked Leng Mochen, "Where’s Aunt Liu’s relative?"

Leng Mochen glanced at Sister Ding. "Apparently, their family arranged a formal job for them in a hurry, and they rushed back home for an interview! They won’t be working with us anymore."

"Oh!" Li Si didn’t mind much. Everyone has their aspirations, and it’s natural for people to aim higher and move forward!

A formal job would surely be better than taking care of someone else’s child, especially for such a young girl!

Sister Ding kept silent, adding no unnecessary comments. Looking back, yesterday felt like a drama unfolding.

She couldn’t believe it. That quiet, well-mannered young girl had exploded with such terrifying aggression.

Were it not for the plans and preparation from the gentleman beforehand, that adorable little Buding might have truly been taken away.

Though it wasn’t really her fault, she couldn’t forgive herself.

Later, the gentleman spoke to her at length, promising that next semester her son would be transferred here to study.

She was beyond grateful, words failing her.

As a worker who had come all the way to Beijing, she’d only hoped to save enough money to eventually send her child here for high school.

She never expected her employer to arrange it effortlessly. Now she could focus on taking care of Madam and the child without any worries.

After finishing breakfast, Li Si felt refreshed, apart from some lingering soreness in her waist.

Seeing Leng Mochen descend the stairs with a complicated expression, holding his phone, she asked, "Are we going to the old house today?"

Truthfully, she didn’t want to visit the Leng Family home either, but sometimes appearances had to be kept.

"Not today!"

With that, he sat down next to Li Si, pulled her into his arms, and raised his brow as he asked, "Did Bai Shasha call you yet?"

Instinctively, Li Si picked up her phone from the coffee table and checked. "Nope!" There were no missed calls.

"I think Shasha’s family is supposed to meet with Xu Er’s family today, right? They’re probably still preparing at this hour. If anything happens, she’ll definitely contact me."

During a brief conversation at yesterday’s wedding banquet, Bai Shasha had mentioned this plan, and Li Si had teased her about it, calling it a family merger in progress.

"Hmm!"

Li Si noticed the odd look on Leng Mochen’s face and quickly asked, puzzled, "What happened?"

Leng Mochen held her hand gently and stroked it, still processing the news. "Xiao Ning just called me. Last night, Leng Shuang and Bai Shasha got into an argument. Xu Er, trying to protect Shasha, ended up getting his head injured by Leng Shuang—had to get three stitches at the hospital."

Leng Ning decided not to share this distressing news on their wedding night, choosing instead to wait until today.

"Oh my god! Is Xu Er okay now? And Shasha? Why didn’t she at least call or text me about this?" Li Si was in disbelief, struggling to understand how two unrelated people had ended up fighting.

Why did Leng Shuang argue with Bai Shasha anyway?

At the rushed wedding yesterday, she vaguely remembered Leng Ning briefly introducing Leng Shuang. On the surface, she hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

"Xu Er’s fine! He’s at Bai Shasha’s house now. Let’s go check on them!" Leng Mochen frowned slightly, clearly distressed by the situation.

"Alright! Let me change quickly. Wait a sec!" Li Si hurried to the walk-in closet, grabbing a casual long dress and leaving her hair loose before heading out with Leng Mochen.

When Li Si and Leng Mochen arrived at Bai Shasha’s house, they saw Xu Er sitting with a white bandage wrapped around his head, looking a bit disheveled in his slightly wrinkled outfit from the day before.

But despite his appearance, he seemed rather content. Bai Shasha, deeply moved by Xu Er taking the hit for her, now spoke to him in a gentle and affectionate tone, her eyes full of tenderness.

In just the short time Li Si and Leng Mochen had been there, Bai Shasha had already asked Xu Er multiple times if he wanted water or some fruit.

Jiang Fan exchanged a glance with Li Si, silently noting that Xu Er had indeed gained a blessing in disguise.

After dealing with the hospital last night, Xu Er was in no condition to return home. Jiang Fan had driven himself, Xu Er, and Bai Shasha back to her place.

Because of this incident, today’s planned meeting between the two families had to be postponed for now—explaining Xu Er’s injury would have been complicated.

If Xu Er’s family were to learn about this, it definitely wouldn’t end well.

Taking advantage of the moment when Bai Shasha and Jiang Fan pulled Li Si into her bedroom, Xu Er started complaining loudly, "Your cousin really doesn’t hold back! If that bottle had hit my Shasha’s head, she’d have ended up with a concussion!"

Thankfully, Xu Er had reacted quickly, shielding her from harm.

Leng Mochen frowned slightly. "I heard a bit from Xiao Ning. What exactly happened?"

Xu Er shrugged. "A random twist of fate!" Given Bai Shasha’s softened attitude now, he felt like his injury might not be all bad!

Leng Mochen teased, "A blessing in disguise!"

Xu Er grinned broadly and playfully winked.

Meanwhile, in another bedroom, a similar conversation was taking place. Bai Shasha and Jiang Fan recounted the events of last night to Li Si, relay-style. Bai Shasha was embarrassed, worrying about how Li Si might handle things with her mother-in-law later.

Had she known things would escalate like this, she would have controlled herself better. She could’ve even just walked away—why had she let it get this bad? Now, Xu Er had gotten hurt because of her.

Bai Shasha’s emotions were in turmoil. She remembered how Jiang Fan had wanted to call the police the moment it happened, reasoning that the girl’s actions constituted intentional injury, warranting legal consequences even if Xu Er didn’t meet the threshold for serious harm.

But Bai Shasha, considering that the girl was connected to Li Si’s husband’s family, had stopped Jiang Fan right away. She figured dragging this into the police station on such a joyous day wouldn’t be appropriate.

Even so, she felt agonizingly grateful and guilt-stricken for Xu Er’s sacrifice.

"Si, I’m so sorry!"

Li Si glared at her. "What are you apologizing for? What did you do wrong? If there’s anyone at fault, it’s Leng Shuang. Are we supposed to let people bully us and just take it? If I’d been there, I would’ve scratched her face up and called the cops right away!"

After hearing the full story, Li Si was furious. Maybe it was her bias toward Bai Shasha as a close friend.

But everyone has their preferences, right? And honestly, anyone would blame Leng Shuang after hearing this story.

How cruel could someone be, resorting to smashing a wine bottle just because they couldn’t win an argument? Who does she think she is? If not for Shasha’s consideration, calling the police and having her detained wouldn’t have been excessive!

Bai Shasha and Jiang Fan exchanged a glance. "Si, why are you suddenly so aggressive? This doesn’t seem like you. Are you saying this just to make me feel better? That girl is still part of your husband’s family. If this escalates with your mother-in-law, I’ll end up feeling like the real culprit here!"

Bai Shasha knew Li Si’s personality well—she wasn’t usually this confrontational, which only made her feel more uneasy after hearing her reaction.
