Chapter 482: Chapter 399: Uninvited
On the plane, Leng Mochen was pondering. Just who were those three people? Or who had sent them? It was obvious they were targeting him.
Unfortunately, he had no leads at all! Right now, Leng Mohao was still locked up inside, and it was said that sentencing would be soon. By all accounts, it shouldn’t be his people. But when you really think about it, as Leng Mochen living abroad, he shouldn’t have any enemies.
It’s easy to avoid an open attack but hard to guard against a sneak one — especially now that he wasn’t alone. Li Si and Buding were his everything. Even if only for them, he had to quickly figure out what the deal was with those three people!
This matter caused a deep sense of vigilance and gloom to rise in his heart.
When Leng Mochen’s plane landed, the welcoming party was quite large. Aside from Mr. Leng, Li Si, and Leng Ning, Mrs. Leng and Buding had all come to the airport.
Yesterday, Mrs. Leng had already accepted an interview with a media outlet to clarify some online rumors.
The public reception had been quite positive. It was just an ordinary matter that had been blown out of proportion by certain individuals trying to stir things up.
Leng Mochen looked at Li Si’s glittering eyes, full of smiles, and amusedly thought to himself that this girl must’ve missed him terribly.
If it hadn’t been for the extraneous people around, he wouldn’t have been able to resist the urge to punish her on the spot.
The group returned home, and Mrs. Leng fussed over Leng Mochen warmly, tactfully avoiding any mention of Mr. Leng.
"Mochen, was everything smooth during your trip?" It’s said that a mother worries when her child travels far. These past few days, aside from being angry with Mr. Leng, Mrs. Leng had been unusually concerned about Mochen, wondering how he was doing abroad.
If it hadn’t been for the daily overseas phone calls reporting safety, she might have worried herself half to death. "It was fine!" Leng Mochen replied casually, his gaze never leaving Li Si and Buding.
During his time away, apart from worrying about and missing Li Si, he thought of the little one most.
Seeing Little Buding again, after just a few days apart, it felt like he had changed — grown quite a bit.
"Come here! Let Daddy hold you!" He couldn’t help but reach out and take the boy gently from Li Si’s arms, holding him close to his chest, their faces touching.
Buding seemed to know this was his dad. Happily, he used his chubby little hands, complete with dimples, to touch his lips. Leng Mochen purposely opened his mouth and teased him, and Buding curiously stuck his finger inside to explore.
Leng Mochen suddenly took his little hand into his mouth, causing Buding to freeze for a second before realizing it was just a game. He burst into giggles, showing his tiny pink gums with two little white buds — utterly adorable! His playful laugh brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
Nobody expected that the one person nobody had mentioned, Mr. Leng, would show up uninvited at this moment.
At first, Mrs. Leng, upon seeing him, gave him the cold shoulder and didn’t even spare him a glance.
She kept playing with Buding without giving him so much as an edge of her eye.
Later, Mr. Leng, watching enviously, kept wanting to cuddle and get close to Buding, but Mrs. Leng wouldn’t give him the chance, leaving him agitated.
He had come today with the intention of making amends with his wife.
These past couple of days, the mother and daughter weren’t home, and he was lonely to death. The housekeeper might’ve kept the meals the same as always,
but eating alone wasn’t the same as eating with the family, was it?
He had long regretted the things he said the other day. After getting a harsh scolding from the elder Leng at the ancestral home yesterday, he felt even more that he had gone too far.
But now, in front of everyone, despite his intentions, Mr. Leng found himself unable to speak his mind.
Li Si and Leng Ning exchanged glances before standing up and saying they wanted to see the gifts Mochen had brought back.
Soon enough, the living room had only Mr. Leng, Mrs. Leng, and the drooling, oblivious Little Buding left in it.
Mr. Leng glanced at Mrs. Leng’s frosty expression and coughed lightly. "Xiao Yan, can I... can I apologize to you?"
"The great Mr. Leng still needs to apologize to me? I don’t deserve that!" Mrs. Leng refused to look at him, focusing solely on cradling Buding and gently swaying him.
"Giggling!" Buding was as happy as could be — completely oblivious to why Grandpa’s face looked so constipated.
Mr. Leng let out a sigh, knowing that what had transpired wouldn’t be solved by a simple apology.
"We’ve been married for over thirty years. Don’t you know me well by now? I said what I said that day because I truly lost my temper!"
Mrs. Leng sneered, "Oh, save it! Even after thirty more years, I still wouldn’t understand you! What am I? Just someone to settle and muddle through life with. Your past — when have you ever talked to me about it? Do I even occupy a place in your heart? I only said one sentence, and you told me to get lost!
Fine! Now I’ve gotten lost, and here you are — what are you up to? Let me tell you, this is my son’s home. If anyone’s getting kicked out, it won’t be by you! My son and daughter-in-law haven’t weighed in yet, so you don’t get to decide!"
Mr. Leng saw her growing increasingly agitated, her eyes blazing, breathing heavily. He quickly patted her shoulder to calm her down. "Yan, don’t get worked up! Let’s talk this through properly, okay? In just half a month, it’ll be our son’s wedding. Do you really want our family to lose face in this circle? Why do you think I came to my son’s house if not to apologize to you and ask you to come home with me?"
"Get lost!" Mrs. Leng harshly pushed off his hand from her shoulder. "Now you’re scared of losing face? What were you thinking back then?"
Mr. Leng was left with no choice but to withdraw his hand and rest it on his knees. Some things couldn’t remain unsaid anymore. Looking at Mrs. Leng sincerely, he said, "Fine! I admit I shouldn’t have hidden things from you. Back then, when I went to the countryside, I did secretly date Su Ye, Xiao Jin’s mother. But before we returned to the city, she broke up with me.
Not long after we got back, I heard she’d married Jin Jiachao. Years later, I also learned she had passed away fairly early. Honestly, I’ve had my thoughts about it, but you and I have been married all these years — you should know I’m not the type to fool around.
Now Little Ning and Jin Jiachao’s son are dating. Knowing this, can I really calmly accept it? If you were in my position, could you?"
Mrs. Leng’s expression softened slightly but remained taut. "I could! Why not? For the sake of our children, I’d do anything! Besides, perhaps back then her marriage to someone else had hidden reasons, like parental arrangements or introductions by others. How can you so firmly believe she snatched you away? It was after the return to the city, wasn’t it? At that time, there were plenty of rushed marriages among the educated youth!"
Her retort left Mr. Leng frozen for a moment. Those days had indeed been chaotic, with many hasty decisions to wed.
For all these years, he’d been so fixated on his assumption that Jin Jiachao was the vile man who had stolen her away. Could he have been wrong?
