Chapter 461 - 378: Xu Er’s Marriage Proposal

Chapter 461: Chapter 378: Xu Er’s Marriage Proposal

Currently, Xu Er, who had been mentioned by the pair, is nervously preparing for his proposal. He didn’t tell Leng Er, knowing well that with Li Si and Bai Shasha’s close relationship, once they found out, they’d surely spoil the surprise! And where’s the fun in that?

He didn’t mention it to Long Wu either—telling him is akin to announcing it to the whole world. That would be more of a headache than help!

Xu Er is now standing across from Bai Shasha’s workplace, leaning against a flashy red Maserati sports car. The trunk is packed with all the preparations he meticulously arranged!

He touches the engagement ring in his pants pocket, his heart racing with nervousness. He wonders if Shasha will like his way of proposing.

Ditching the outdated proposal routines of Long Wu and Leng Er, Xu Er decided to go for something different.

Originally, he thought about setting up a giant helium balloon and a banner outside Bai Shasha’s workplace. Later, he figured it wasn’t romantic enough. By chance, he stumbled across a post that suggested, "There’s a kind of romance that begins with ’Could you help me open the trunk?’"

Deeply moved, he felt this was more his style. Plus, maybe Shasha would love it!

So, he started preparing yesterday—arranging a heart-shaped flower tray made of 99 red roses, ordered from the florist, and placing it at the center of the trunk surrounded by heart-shaped balloons. Every single balloon was inflated by him using a hand pump!

Once everything was ready, he called Bai Shasha for a sweet chat, casually mentioning he’d come pick her up after work today.

Shasha enthusiastically chattered about what to eat later, while Xu Er silently congratulated himself, making a scissors-hand gesture in his mind. Oh yeah! Step one completed successfully!

The waiting felt like forever. While he stood there enduring the attention from passersby, feeling increasingly impatient...

Bai Shasha finally emerged amidst the post-work crowd, her eyes promptly landing on Xu Er, who stood out like a stunning scene.

Her colleague Xiao Liu, who knew he was her boyfriend, looked at her with envy, saying, "Wow! Xiao Bai, your boyfriend is so stylish and attractive!"

Shasha denied it with her words, but inwardly nodded with pride. Indeed, why does he look so eye-catching today?

Approaching the car, Xu Er gazed warmly at Bai Shasha. "Why did it take you so long to come out?"

Shasha wasn’t sure why, but though this wasn’t the first time Xu Er came to pick her up, her heartbeat unintentionally quickened. "Got caught up with some work. It took a bit of extra time."

"No problem! Well, Shasha, I left something in the back..." Xu Er was just about to find an excuse for Shasha to open the trunk when a surprised exclamation interrupted him.

"Wow! Isn’t this one of those cars worth millions? Xiao Bai! Your boyfriend must be so rich!"

Xiao Liu hadn’t left yet; instead, she was curiously checking out the sports car behind Xu Er. She couldn’t help but excitedly grab Bai Shasha’s arm and shake it.

"Xiao Bai! We’ve got a good relationship at work, right? Could you ask your boyfriend to take me for a spin? I’ve never been in a sports car before!"

Inside, Xu Er was crying bitter tears. What about the atmosphere? What about the romance?

Lady, you’re more than welcome to look or go for a ride any day. But why today, of all days? Do you have any idea how important today is?

Had I known, I wouldn’t have driven this newly-delivered car today. Such a misstep, such a big misstep!

Even Bai Shasha found her colleague’s reaction a bit over the top, so she awkwardly chuckled and said, "Xiao Liu! Another day, okay? We have something urgent to take care of today."

Xiao Liu pouted in mild dejection. "Fine, but promise me you’ll let me ride this car another day!"

"Sure, sure. See you then!" Bai Shasha said, while Xu Er chivalrously opened the car door for her. She slid into the seat.

Xu Er’s face stiffened as he forced a smile and nodded at the fawning Xiao Liu, before getting in the car and driving off.

He was seething inside. The original plan was to propose near her workplace, creating a public sensation with the crowd. At that point, Shasha would probably feel a little embarrassed but ultimately agree.

But now? Not only was she late, there weren’t many people around, and then there came this meddling nightmare—how was he supposed to salvage this?

Shasha noticed Xu Er’s tangled expressions flashing on his face as he drove, so she softly explained, "Xiao Liu usually gets along well with me at work. She’s just a bit overly familiar. Don’t let it bother you, okay?"

They worked together, and Shasha didn’t want to strain relationships with colleagues she interacted with daily.

"It’s fine!" Xu Er feigned indifference.

Shasha glanced out the car window at the fleeting scenery. "Where are we heading?"

At this moment, Xu Er felt conflicted. The restaurant had been reserved earlier, but if they went straight to dinner without proposing first, it felt out of sequence!

So, an idea quickly struck him.

"I’m taking you somewhere nice! Are you hungry?"

Shasha shook her head. "Not really. I had a little cake during afternoon tea break." Her workplace offered great perks; the break room had freshly baked pastries supplied daily.

"Alright then! Hold on tight, let’s hurry there! We’ll eat afterward!" Xu Er grinned, hoping she’d be touched.

The car sped to an open, spacious park, where Xu Er parked.

Shasha curiously looked around, secretly bemused, wondering if this guy was mimicking other couples going for romantic strolls in parks?

She opened the car door and stepped out. Xu Er remained seated. "Come out! What are you doing there?"

Xu Er pretended to search around the dashboard. "I think I lost my phone."

Shasha joined in, rummaging through the car. "Did you check your pockets or someplace nearby?"

Making a show of it, Xu Er patted down his pants pockets. "Nope! Oh, wait—I think I left it in the trunk! Shasha, could you check for me?"

Shasha stood with hands on her hips. "You! Always so forgetful! Fine, sure!" She walked toward the rear of the car, completely unaware of the victory gesture Xu Er made secretly.

Through the rearview mirror, Xu Er watched as Bai Shasha prepared to open the trunk. At the last moment, he got out and said his phone had been found!

Angrily, Shasha stomped her foot in frustration. "Are you messing with me?"

Xu Er hurried to her side. "Don’t be mad! I just found it! No worries, you can still open the trunk—let’s grab a bottle of water."

With a pout, Shasha popped open the trunk. Instantly, the sight of sweet surprises flooded her vision: heart-shaped balloons flew out, leaving behind the heart-shaped rose arrangement. She was stunned!

Moments ago, she had sensed something unusual, but since Xu Er had never done anything overly romantic before, she dismissed the notion!

Standing before such a scene, she was genuinely moved!

Taking advantage of those few seconds of her shock, Xu Er swiftly pulled out the engagement ring, dropped to one knee, and proposed with heartfelt words: "Shasha! I’m so excited at this moment, yet I don’t know how to express it. Those scripted lines I memorized are long forgotten.

My dear, forgive me for not being able to say the kindest or sweetest words right now. But please believe I have a sincere heart full of love for you. Let heaven and earth witness it—you are my one and only love in this lifetime. I will cherish you, protect you, and love you forever, never letting you go. Perhaps my words sound too vague, but let me prove them with a lifetime. Shasha, will you marry me? Please?"

As he finished, Xu Er’s heart pounded fiercely, his mouth dry and palms sweaty. Thankfully, everything went smoothly without further mishaps!

Bai Shasha felt both amused and touched to the point of tears. However, she couldn’t shake her fear of marriage.

Back when she was with Cao Yufan, she loved him wholeheartedly, only to end up hurt.

Her relationship with Xu Er often felt like two playful, bantering children. Yet, he brought her so much joy!
