Chapter 289: Good Things Constantly Interrupted

Chapter 289: Good Things Constantly Interrupted

Lily Turner was hoping for some affection here, but she kept getting interrupted, which really annoyed Easton Holmes, though he didn’t show it on the surface.

"You better answer the phone, or they’ll get anxious," Lily said, clearly delighted. Although she didn’t laugh out loud, the joy on her face was unmistakable.

Seeing her like this, already irate Easton gritted his teeth, "I don’t need your reminder, I’m not deaf yet."

He raised his other hand, pinched her cheek, then sat up straight. But he still didn’t release her hands, continuing to hold them tightly.

She thought her hands would be free, but things didn’t turn out the way she expected.

Lily glared angrily at the man who held her stubbornly, but then she saw he was about to answer the phone, so she didn’t argue further.

"Grandfather!"

The caller was Callix Linton. If it had been anyone else, Easton wouldn’t have been as polite.

"Did you see Lily? Is everything alright?" Callix felt uneasy ever since Lucas Zimmerman’s report, but Easton’s call eased his worries a bit.

"She’s sitting right beside me now, you can ask her yourself," Easton said, holding the phone to Lily’s ear and leaning his body closer to hers, "Grandfather wants to talk to you."

As he spoke, he moved even closer to her.

Lily wanted to avoid him, but Easton held her hands tightly, greatly restricting her movement, and someone was waiting to talk on the other end of the call.

"Hello, Grandfather!"

As she greeted the person on the phone, she shot an annoyed look at Easton beside her.

"Girl! Why didn’t you bring your mom to our house when she came looking for you? Is our house too shabby, are you afraid it’ll embarrass you?" Callix didn’t understand the situation with Lily’s family, nor why she concealed the truth. Although he had no clue, he knew there must be a reason.

Hearing this, Lily frowned in surprise and instinctively glanced at Easton. She figured the guards at the entrance reported the situation, and he later informed his grandfather.

"No! My mom had something urgent, so I just went back with her for a bit."

Her mom was urging her to get divorced, which could be considered an urgent matter.

"What’s the matter? Do you need help? Just say the word if you do. Easton and I will do our best." Callix’s words were sincere, and he meant every word. He genuinely felt this and spoke from the heart.

His vow to do his best brought tears to Lily’s eyes; she choked up, "Thank you! Grandfather! I’ll let you know if I need help."

After saying that, she turned her head to face away from the phone.

"Grandfather! We just finished eating and are heading back now. We can talk more in person when we get back," Easton said, watching Lily closely. He didn’t miss any of her emotional changes.

"Alright!"

The sound of Lily’s choked voice was clear in Callix’s ear. As soon as Easton finished speaking, Callix responded affirmatively and considerately hung up the phone.
