Chapter 220: The Hapless Big Sister 35
Yuan Chun’s wedding banquet was held at the Peace Restaurant. The Wang family invited more than 500 friends and relatives, most of whom were military buddies of Bin, and quite a few leaders came as well. Yuan Chun went around each table toasting guests with Wang Ziteng, and her face was stiff from smiling.
She barely made it through to the evening, but her anticipated wedding night was gone since she had to take care of a drunkard, singing lullabies half the night until he finally fell asleep.
Early the next morning, Yuan Chun woke up with a dry throat.
She rubbed her temples and opened her eyes, meeting a pair of soulful, apologetic eyes. "Wife, you’re awake. Do you have a headache?"
Wang Ziteng eagerly helped her rub her temples. "Wife, last night those rowdy soldiers got me drunk. Was it hard for you to take care of me?"
"It wasn’t too hard, just that I sang lullabies half the night. My throat still hurts." Yuan Chun pointed at the thermos. "Pour me a cup of water to soothe my throat."
"Alright, wife."
Wang Ziteng hurriedly went to pour her water.
Once Yuan Chun drank the water, Wang Ziteng pulled her into his arms, speaking softly, "Wife, it’s still early. Let’s do what we should have done last night."
"It’s not early, dawn is coming soon."
"Even if it’s almost dawn, it’s fine. Today’s our first day of marriage; no one will disturb us."
With a swift move, Wang Ziteng pinned his new bride under him, and the passionate moment continued until noon. The couple then ate some snacks and drank hot water before cuddling up to nap again.
Yuan Chun woke up again in the late afternoon.
The spot beside her was already empty.
She got out of bed and walked out of the room. As she went to the yard to wash up, she saw a tall figure busy in the kitchen.
"Wife, you’re up."
Hearing the noise, Wang Ziteng came out of the kitchen, smiling, "Wife, wash up first; the meal is almost ready."
"It smells great, did you make chicken soup?"
"Yeah, Mom brought over an old hen this afternoon." Wang Ziteng handed her a rinsing cup filled with water. "When Mom came, you were sleeping so soundly that I didn’t have the heart to wake you."
Yuan Chun glared at him, ashamed and annoyed, "On the second day of marriage, I slept until the afternoon, and my mother-in-law knew. I’m so embarrassed."
"It’s okay. I told Mom I got drunk and rowdy last night and you were exhausted from taking care of me. She won’t think much of it."
"I think your explanation is as obvious as waving a flag," she remarked.
"Hahaha... Wife, you’re smart. Mom said the same thing, hahaha..."
Infuriated, Yuan Chun playfully raised her small fists and punched him a few times.
In the chicken soup, Yuan Chun found some slices of small ginseng. Wang Ziteng explained, "Mom brought it, saying you should get a good supplement. Both of my sisters-in-law had ginseng chicken soup when they got married too."
Before they got married, Wang Qian had transferred three two-room courtyard houses, which he had bought with hard-earned money over the years, to the names of his three sons, with all the furniture and kitchenware ready. After they got married, they could just move in with their things.
Wang Ziteng also had a one-room courtyard under his name, a gift from Grandma Wang for his eighteenth birthday. All three eldest grandsons in the Wang family received this.
Yuan Chun once curiously asked Wang Ziteng, "Your dad bought so many houses, he can’t be short of money. So why did he still rent my dad’s house to run a restaurant?"
Wang Ziteng explained, "Those three houses were bought with the money my dad earned from the restaurant. He didn’t have money before."
"Later, after making money, my dad was too lazy to move. So, he kept renting your family’s house. Actually, he was worried that after he stopped renting, without that 30 bucks for living expenses, they might treat you poorly."
