Chapter 714 - 703: The Male Supporting Character’s Bai Yueguang
Hearing that Ye Qiu had managed to secure a deal with a renowned director and obtained a role that others could only dream of over a simple meal, Jiang Yao and Chu Weiwei were somewhat bewildered.
But if a new character was to be added, wouldn’t the script need revising? How should it be revised?
The two exchanged a glance, set aside their doubts, buried their heads in eating, and decided to wait to see what Elder Chen would say.
"Wait for my news in the next couple of days, and then come over to sign a contract," Elder Chen said with a smile, clearly with a plan already in mind.
"Sure, no problem," Ye Qiu readily agreed, "In the future, please look after me, Uncle Chen, Teacher Jiang, and Weiwei."
The next day, Elder Chen temporarily halted the filming schedule and then invited the producer, the original author, the screenwriter, and the lead actors Jiang Yao and Chu Weiwei for a meeting.
After understanding the reason for the meeting, the producer was taken aback: "Elder Chen, are you out of your mind? We’ve nearly finished half of the filming, and now you want to change the script? And split the movie into two parts? Do you realize the impact it will have? Do you understand the consequences?"
Unlike the producer’s objection, the original author was somewhat excited. "Immortal Palace" was her creation, with every character being carefully designed by her. She was already somewhat unwilling to remove two important supporting characters due to the film’s duration. But considering it was Director Elder Chen taking the helm, she put aside her concerns about the novel being ruined.
Now that Elder Chen wanted to add those two characters back to make the emotional scenes of the two protagonists more vivid, she naturally had nothing but agreement, with no objections.
Although the plot of "Immortal Palace" wasn’t complicated, the female protagonist’s journey from a Fairy to a Demon Lord was quite tortuous. She had been afraid that a two-hour movie wouldn’t be able to capture that ambiance and would seem rushed. However, if the movie was divided into two parts, the protagonist’s inner conflict and tangled love and hate could be better portrayed.
With these thoughts in mind, the author Tianyue Sangshi was already eager to discuss with Director Elder Chen and the collaborative screenwriter on how to reintegrate the two supporting characters back into the story.
Jiang Yao and Chu Weiwei also hadn’t expected that Elder Chen would actually consider filming two parts, even more surprised than when they heard the news yesterday.
"It’s no trouble," Elder Chen looked around at everyone and continued, "The content we’ve shot so far is all usable. Although the film will be released in two parts, we can shoot them together. We’ll just speed up the post-production, so it won’t affect Jiang Yao and Weiwei’s schedules. We just need to amend the contract a bit. Do you two have any problems with that?"
"No problem, my schedule is very open," said Chu Weiwei, who was touching the big screen for the first time and wanted to do well. Now that the director had a better idea, she naturally had only to cooperate.
And what about Jiang Yao? For the chance to spend more time with Chu Weiwei, he would find the time even if he didn’t have any.
With both directors on board, Elder Chen then turned to look at the author and screenwriter.
Tianyue Sangshi quickly agreed, "I already have some ideas in mind; I need to discuss them with Sister Xiao Nan."
The screenwriter Xiao Nan also nodded: "I have no problems on my end; at worst, it just means working late into the night."
"See?" Elder Chen said with a smile, looking at the producer, "Everyone agrees."
"But what about the budget?" the producer was still somewhat troubled, "And what about the investors?"
Jiang Yao pondered for a moment and said, "I will speak to the investors. If the subsequent investment can’t keep up, I’ll contribute the money myself."
With all issues resolved, the producer had no choice but to agree, praying in his heart that Elder Chen’s decision was the right one.
When Sister Hong received a call from Ye Qiu asking her to accompany her to sign the contract, she was still a bit dazed.
"Are you saying that Elder Chen decided to let you play a role in the movie just because you visited the set?"
"That’s right, Uncle Chen asked me to sign the contract today. Do you have time? If you’re busy, I’ll go by myself," Ye Qiu said.
"I do, of course I do," Sister Hong replied excitedly, "What time tomorrow? I’ll drive over to pick you up."
"Nine o’clock, I just finished baking cookies, I won’t talk more now," Ye Qiu said and hung up the phone, taking out the fragrant cookies from the oven with her gloves on.
"Try these," she said, placing the biscuits right in front of Su Sui.
"Are you joining the film crew?" Su Sui casually took a biscuit and asked, his gaze deep and thoughtful.
"Yes, how is it, tasty?"
Gazing into Ye Qiu’s bright eyes, Su Sui lowered his own, replying softly, "Delicious."
After hesitating for a moment, he continued to ask, "Are you filming with Jiang Yao?"
"Yes! How did you know?"
Seeing your excitement, I guessed it, Su Sui thought to himself, feeling a surge of intense jealousy. Why wasn’t the person Ye Qiu liked himself?
Even though he knew Ye Qiu’s feelings for Jiang Yao were just like those of a fan for their idol, what if she really came to like Jiang Yao after spending more time with him on set?
Su Sui couldn’t be sure, which only intensified his worries.
He absolutely didn’t want Ye Qiu to go out and film, but what reason or right did he have to stop her?
"I guessed it. What about the game?"
"Of course, we’ll continue playing. I’ve finally found a game I like; surely you won’t not want to team up with me, right?"
"Why would I?" Su Sui hurriedly replied, "I’m just afraid you won’t have time to play anymore."
"If I have time, I’ll play. We’re the ’Femme Fatale and Gentleman Killer’ of the game, the best gaming partners."
But I wish to be more than just your gaming partner.
After a long hesitation, Su Sui mustered the courage to ask Ye Qiu, "Then, may I come to see you?"
"As long as you don’t reveal the plot of the movie, it should be fine! How about this, if you’re interested in filmmaking, I’ll speak with the director first and let you know later."
"Mhm," Su Sui replied softly.
"Here, this box of biscuits is for you; I’ll bring the rest to the crew tomorrow, it should be enough for her."
But Su Sui misunderstood, "For ’him’ ? Who? Jiang Yao?"
Jealousy flared wildly within him. Jiang Yao, is he really that great?
Besides biscuits, Ye Qiu also made a tiramisu. She was going to show Chu Weiwei what truly delicious desserts were all about!
Humming a tune, she carefully packed the biscuits, oblivious to the increasing gloom in Su Sui’s eyes.
Returning home, Su Sui used to find the biscuits exceptionally sweet, but now, just thinking that most of them were for Jiang Yao, they tasted incredibly bitter.
He had thought that all he needed was to watch over Ye Qiu, that her happiness was enough, but now, he realized how narrow-minded he was becoming, wanting to keep Ye Qiu hidden, visible to him alone.
Yet he knew this wasn’t right; such behavior could scare Ye Qiu or even hurt her. Perhaps, to prevent himself from taking any drastic actions, it was time for him to leave her?
