Chapter 659 - 648: The Cuckolded Prince
Chapter 659 - 648: The Cuckolded Prince
"Lady, Prince disciplined the servant who takes care of the Eldest Young Master today," Furong whispered the news from outside into Lin Jingxian’s ear.
Lin Jingxian paused in her action of holding the child, then casually said, "Disciplined, so what? It’s not a big deal."
Furong hesitated, then finally spoke up, "This servant has heard that when the Prince was holding the Eldest Young Master, he immediately called for the Imperial Physician, it seemed like the servant had mistreated him. This servant is worried that if this gets out, it might tarnish your reputation. Although you are not in charge of the household, outsiders don’t know that!"
After hearing this, Lin Jingxian deeply looked at Furong, "You are right, if this news spreads it indeed might cause others to gossip. Where is the Prince now?"
"Still in Qinghu Court."
"Then let’s go and see the Eldest Young Master together."
"Yes!"
In Qinghu Court, Ye Qiu was spoon-feeding broth to Ye Heng, mouthful by mouthful. The child was very well-behaved, sitting in his lap without moving, obediently opening his mouth to swallow.
Yanzhi said comfortingly from the side, "Our Eldest Young Master is really obedient."
Little Lu chimed in from the side, "Isn’t he? Speaking of which, the Eldest Young Master and our Prince really look alike, with the same big round eyes."
Although Ye Qiu wasn’t much upright, among the several princes, his appearance was top-notch, completely inheriting his Queen Mother’s good looks. His Father Emperor had taken a shining to the Queen Mother initially because he was captivated by her stunning appearance during a secret visit, leading him to extravagantly confer upon her the title of noble directly against the protocols, which precisely is one of the reasons why she is so disliked.
After feeding half a bowl of broth, Ye Qiu set down the bowl amidst the child’s pitiful gaze, "Enough, anymore and you won’t digest it well; your stomach will hurt at night. You’ll have goat milk in two hours, hold on till then."
The child’s stomach is weak, he can’t eat not only nourishing food but also can’t eat too much of even ordinary food, he must eat less and have more frequent meals.
Ye Qiu gently rubbed the child’s belly as the little boy obediently leaned into his embrace, comfortably squinting his eyes. Both Yanzhi and Little Lu smiled watching this scene.
"Prince, the Princess Consort has arrived," the little maid entered and reported, followed by Lin Jingxian walking in with servants.
Ye Qiu frowned subtly, it was because "he" had liked Lin Jingxian too much before, granting her the privilege to visit any area in Prince Wang Mansion without announcement, "he" had wanted her to visit "him" more often. Yet Lin Jingxian never once used this privilege until today, her first time indeed!
"Prince," Lin Jingxian bowed in greeting, then lovingly looked at the child in Ye Qiu’s arms, "This must be the Eldest Young Master, such a handsome boy! Come, let Queen Mother hold you."
As Ye Heng looked at Lin Jingxian’s outstretched hands, the boy who had been quietly lying in Ye Qiu’s embrace suddenly clung tightly to Ye Qiu’s neck, clearly refusing her.
Lin Jingxian’s hand froze in mid-air, looking embarrassed.
Ye Qiu took advantage of the situation to hold the child’s back, laughing heartily, "Princess Consort, Heng’er likes me more! They say children are the most perceptive, and he really knows that I love him."
This statement almost openly declared that Lin Jingxian, the Princess Consort, did not like Ye Heng, the illegitimate son, but she could not rebut Ye Qiu, turning somewhat pale.
"It was I who was negligent; the Eldest Young Master hasn’t seen me before so of course, he wouldn’t be willing to be held by me. It’s also my fault for not visiting him earlier when I was pregnant," Lin Jingxian found an excuse for herself with an apologetic face.
Ye Qiu nodded, "Indeed, both of us were negligent, not expecting those servants to be so bold."
Lin Jingxian, looking at Ye Qiu who naively didn’t defend her, swallowed her frustration. Why did she have to be married off to him?
She took a deep breath and considerately suggested, "Prince, those servants must be dealt with properly, they must not be easily forgiven."
"Rest assured, I have dealt with them, even their families were not spared. Speaking of this, I am reminded of the servants in your Luoxia Courtyard. They need a good warning, lest they treat Ming’er and Lingling like they did Heng’er. Selling them off might be better, and getting a new batch from the palace who know the rules," Ye Qiu suggested.
This suggestion startled the servants who had followed Lin Xianjing to Qinghu Court, fearing for their lives if Ye Qiu acted impulsively.
Lin Jingxian’s expression stiffened, her smile forced, and her tone became somewhat pleading, "Didn’t you say, Prince, that I could handle the people in my courtyard myself? You just chastised them yesterday, and with me watching over them, they wouldn’t dare to misbehave."
Ye Qiu glanced regretfully at the servants behind her, snorted, and said, "Then I’ll listen to what you, Princess Consort, say."
Lin Jingxian, not wanting Ye Qiu to pay more attention to her people, quickly changed the subject, "Prince, you are busy with important matters. How about letting Eldest Young Master stay with me to be raised?"
"I’m not busy!" Ye Qiu stated bluntly, cutting off Lin Jingxian’s next words.
She put on a considerate smile again, "The child is young and might bother you, Prince. Let me take him instead; he can keep Ming’er company.
"He doesn’t trouble anyone though. Look at him, he barely even speaks," Ye Qiu commented with interest, poking Ye Heng’s little cheek.
Before Lin Jingxian could speak again, he continued, "You’re already quite tired handling two children. Heng’er is grown enough to stay in the front courtyard."
He laughed nonchalantly, "You know, I’ve never personally raised a child before. I wonder what he will turn out to be like?"
His tone when talking about raising children was as if he were talking about raising a pet, which made Lin Jingxian contemptuous and more cautious. In the future, she would have to keep Ming’er and Lingling from getting too close to Ye Qiu, lest he insists on personally spoiling her two children.
Since he wanted to raise the child himself, she thought she might as well let him raise Ye Heng. After all, it wouldn’t be her concern if he was spoiled.
Thinking this, Lin Jingxian kept a flattering facade and smiled with expectancy, "Prince, if you personally nurture the Eldest Young Master, he will surely achieve great things in the future."
Ye Qiu proudly lifted his head, "Of course, he is the one to inherit my legacy."
Lin Jingxian frowned upon hearing these words, which sounded as if Ye Heng would inherit the throne in the future.
However, Ye Qiu had always been unconventional, so she did not take it too seriously.
After Lin Xianjing left, Yanzhi and Little Lu exchanged glances, feeling that their Prince was treating the Princess Consort differently.
"Little Lu, go and inform Du Ling and Tang Jin that without my orders, no one is allowed to enter the storeroom or study, especially the Princess Consort."
"Yes."
Yanzhi hesitated for a moment but then cautiously spoke up, "Prince, about the Princess Consort..."
"It’s nothing, just follow my orders from now on."
Yanzhi’s expression turned serious, "Yes!"
