Chapter 1113 - 332: Read Them All?

Chapter 332 [Finished Reading Everything?]

The crazy old man walked out from the door, his eyes staring fixedly at Chen Yan.

Without a hint of hesitation, he marched over and stood in front of Chen Yan.

The old man glanced down at a piece of lamb strip resting on the stone slab, then sniffed the air with a greedy look of enjoyment, taking a deep breath of the meat’s aroma with eyes squinted.

After exhaling deeply, his gaze carried a complex meaning, and he turned his head to drag a stone table over, even sweeping away the items originally placed on it with a rough wave of his sleeve, crashing to the floor.

The old man was very strong; the heavy stone table, weighing hundreds of pounds, was easily pulled over, and he promptly sat on it, staring intently at the meat strip on the stone slab.

"This piece is too small, slice a bigger strip for me. Also, don’t overcook it, I like it tender," he said unceremoniously.

Chen Yan glanced at him without getting angry, picked up the lamb’s hind leg, and sliced a few more strips, each about the width of a finger.

When the old man seemed dissatisfied as if the strips were still too small, Chen Yan calmly said, "The stone slab is small, and the fire is weak; if the cuts are too large, they won’t taste as good when grilled."

The old man hesitated, nodded: "Then slice more."

Chen Yan smiled, took out a dish, poured in some chili and cumin seasoning, and added chili sauce.

He placed the dish in front of the old man and handed over a pair of chopsticks.

The old man refused the chopsticks, his eyes fixated on the barely-cooked lamb strip, suddenly reached out, ignored the heat, pinched it up, and shoved it into his mouth.

The grilled lamb strip entered his mouth, and the old man exhaled comfortably, savoring the meaty aroma with squinted eyes, then chewed a few mouthfuls, swallowing it with a gulp.

"Good taste, grill more."

Chen Yan complied, grilling another strip, then said, "Try it with the dip; it tastes even better."

The old man glanced at Chen Yan, picked up the meat strip, dipped it into the seasoning dish, and tossed it into his mouth.

Suddenly, his eyes widened, looking at Chen Yan while nodding: "Good! Really good!"

The old man devoured the meat in large bites; after a few rough chews, he swallowed it with another gulp, eagerly looking at Chen Yan: "Grill more!"

But this time, Chen Yan didn’t move, smiled and said slowly: "The tasting is over; if you wish to eat more, let’s discuss the terms."

The old man: "..."

He stared at Chen Yan, eyes shifting, then gazed at the chopsticks in Chen Yan’s hand and the pre-sliced meat strips beside him...

Finally, he sighed: "I have no money."

"I don’t want money," Chen Yan shook his head, smiling.

"What do you want?"

"I want answers to my doubts."

The old man thought for a moment: "One question."

"Hmm?"

"I’ll answer one question for you."

Chen Yan frowned: "Just one?"

"It’s not dragon meat, just a few ordinary livestock meat strips, answering one question is fair enough." The old man shook his head.

Chen Yan considered this, nodded: "Deal!"

Finishing, he pointed at the rows of stone cabinets in the hall: "The contents stored here, the recorded history, data, records—what are these things?"

The old man blinked: "Just some Ancient Era’s history, data, records; haven’t you read them all?"

Chen Yan rolled his eyes, waved his hand, and stored the sliced meat strips into the Storage Jade Pendant, picked up a glass of beer, and prepared to pour it on the charcoal.

"No!"

The old man panicked, quickly reaching out to stop him.

Chen Yan raised his eyes to look at the old man: "You think I’m easy to fool?"

"Uh..."

"You understand what I want to ask, don’t play dumb with me," Chen Yan said flatly: "I came here, you ignored me, I didn’t blame you. I haven’t received any benefits from you, owe you nothing. If you want my food, we trade fairly."

The old man sighed: "Alright... This is a segment of history that was buried."

"Be more specific," Chen Yan frowned: "For instance, what era, what time period, whose records, and why were they buried, why are they stored here."

Centralized preservation is a very crucial question.

If these histories were buried, someone made significant efforts to gather the scattered records from different times and tribes, dedicating a considerable effort to preserve them here.

This massive undertaking surely has deep intentions!

Chen Yan actually had numerous questions for this old man.

For example, asking who the old man was, why he’s here.

Asking what he’s supposed to be doing in this "Library" or "Archives"... etc., etc.

But yesterday, Chen Yan came here, stayed for a day and night, meditated overnight, and read through numerous stone plate documents.

He figured out one thing.

Why did the old woman arrange for him to be here?

What is in this place? Only these documents!

In other words, the old woman hopes he reads these materials diligently! Within them lies what she hopes he will read, will understand!
