Chapter 711: The Start of The Meeting Part VI
Chapter 711: The Start of The Meeting Part VI
“Because of that, I sent someone to observe you closely, be it in Pride or reality.”
Wisana halted. He sat up straight and stared at Laurent.
“What do you mean?” Wisana spoke through his teeth.
“To be honest, it’s not like I trust you as the king, Mr. Vincent. It’s too risky to put everything in one hand.”
He paused and looked around the room before fixing his eyes on Wisana again.
“I’ve sent a girl to Mr. Vincent since the very first day he went online. I ordered her to keep her eyes on his growth and see if he was good enough to be the king.”
Wisana went quiet.
He knew that his heart was pounding. He was in denial that it could be her.
The girl Laurent sent could not be her!
“She infiltrates Mr. Vincent’s life so smoothly that even Mr. Payu and Mr. Mavin don’t notice it. Please understand that I really want to prove that Mr. Vincent is capable of being our king. Before anyone decides to do anything, I’d like you to listen to her report.”
When he finished, another spotlight was turned on, lighting up the seat next to him. She was a small girl in a white shirt and a tight black skirt. Her black hair was tied up in a loose ponytail. A part of her hair surrounded her face.
Her pink lips were stretched into a straight thin line. Her grey eyes were sharp.
Wisana parted his lips in awe.
Payu and Mavin, too, were surprised to see the girl in this very room.
The girl who was not supposed to be one of the members.
She should only be an ordinary girl.
Yes...
He realized it now that her father worked as an ambassador in France, Laurent’s hometown.
“May?”
Mavin called her name softly.
Maysa’s face was surprisingly nonchalant. She turned to Wisana and saw that he had the same look on his face as if he already knew this in the first place.
They stared at each other without saying anything.
Until Laurent cleared his throat softly to call Maysa back to reality. She closed her eyes and started reporting.
“As someone who’s been observing the king closely, even though I don’t know much about the Signetic, I can tell that his Signetic growth is beyond human. His Signetic control is flawless. He’s definitely the most capable one to be used with the Pride System, but...”
Maysa paused and turned away from Wisana.
“Emotion-wise, he’s still incapable. He takes things too personally. He’s still too young for the duty. His emotions can be unstable, as you can see from how we lost the Key of Forbidden. He’s still too irresponsible for this world and only sees the world one-sidedly. He’s too inexperienced... Not suitable for the king’s position.”
Silence overtook the place immediately. The members looked at each other nervously. Even Mavin narrowed his eyes when he looked at Maysa. Payu massaged his temples wearily.
You had done it, Laurent...
“Not suitable?”
“Just a report from one little girl won’t confirm anything.”
“But that girl’s been following Vincent. She should know him better than anyone.”
“But she’s just a girl.”
“Laurent chose her. She should be good.”
“It’s true, but to say it now that he’s not suitable...”
“This is bad. We lost the Key of Forbidden. Are we losing the king, too? This organization’s doomed.”
Crash!!!
Before anyone could say anything more, Mavin slammed his hands on the table. That caused silence again.
“What do you want from this, Laurent?!” Mavin yelled at him. “Why are you rejecting the king now?! It’s useless. Our organization needs the king and Vincent is more than capable of it!”
“Are you sure, Mavin?” Laurent asked. “He’s not like Winter.”
“How?! This boy’s a replica of him!”
“He right now and Winter then are completely different!!” Laurent shouted. “They’re six years apart and the duty is different, too. Winter was willing to be the king, but this boy knew nothing about the organization. If a person like him’s in charge of the Pride System, our heart and soul, what’s the use of it?!”
“I agree with Mr. Laurent.” A man raised his hand. “He’s too young. His decision may result in a bad image for the organization. He’s not powerful enough to deal with the war in Pride or the Signeraters like Lucius!”
“Do you have a better way to suggest?”
A tanned woman stood up.
“Tell me if you do! The world’s evolution’s been slowing down, and we should act fast. Do we really have the time to find an alternative way?!”
“And you’re saying we should leave our lives in the hands of the twenty-year-old? I don’t want that!”
Another man stood up and shouted. The meeting room started to fill with voices again.
“It’s not that late to delay the final decision! Don’t give this boy the king’s position just yet because once he’s connected to the system, it’s permanent and it’s not worth it!”
“And do you want to see Pride crumbling down before you? The Cores are moving fast now. Without someone to stop them, the organization will be destroyed!”
“I don’t see what’s good to leave our hope in the boy’s hands. Laurent’s girl is right. She’s been watching him closely for a year and she knows full well that he’s not capable as the king. The fight between him and Lucius was clear enough. I refuse to accept this boy as the king!!”
“No! He’s young, but his ability is real. We’ve lost fifty years for the Pride System. Why do we have to wait longer if everything’s ready? It’s true that he’s inexperienced and knows almost nothing about this world, but he’s trained well by Viola. I’m confident that he’d be a great king. I support him!”
The meeting was in turmoil.
The board argued. Only a few of them were sitting there, watching. One of them was Payu, who looked exhausted. He did not try to stop anyone. He only interlocked his fingers and put them on his head. He was too tired to stop anyone. He was too old to stop the younger members.
Maysa did not care about anything. The only one she had been staring at was Wisana.
The tall young man had been so quiet as if he did not care about anything. They looked each other in the eye as if they were reading minds. Wisana didn’t seem surprised seeing Maysa in this room. He looked at her like he was looking at a stranger whom he had never met before.
Maysa wanted to go to him. She wanted to explain everything...
She really wanted to say... that she was sorry...
Meanwhile, Wisana slowly recalled everything in the past. The voices in the room could not penetrate him. The only voice he heard was her sweet voice. He could see her cute round grey eyes and that cuddly small body...
“Everything’s staged?”
He murmured softly and took a deep breath.
Tears ran down his face for a short while, but he shoved his weakness away so fast that even Maysa didn’t notice it.
He finally let out a smile...
Hahahaha.
His laughter started to grow louder among all the voices in the room. Maysa looked at him in awe. She did not expect him to laugh at a time like this.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
