Chapter 41: Magic Warrior Office Part I

Chapter 41: Magic Warrior Office Part I

The burning sunlight and the hot wind were touching the travelers, making them soaked with sweat. The two huge birds were pacing their feet across the desert at a constant speed. The sound of the carriage’s wheel grinding on the sinking sand, made the three of them feel the heat even more.

“Ugh, it’s hot like we’re on the oyster omelet pan.”

The first voice sounded so defeated. Even though he was wearing a cream cloak to protect every part of him, he still felt like he was about to melt at any time now.

“Argh! Why do I have to be so uncomfortable like this in a game.”

Another voice complained. She was flapping her jacket, trying to release that heat. Her cat tail that used to be wiggling around happily, was now drooping.

“I’m gonna die because of the heat now. Is there anything to help us cool down?”

The last one said, weary. The new black shirt he just got, was now taken off and carelessly thrown away before he flapped his hands trying to blow the wind onto his body. It did not do anything, except make him sweat more.

“Are you sure, May? It’s been a long time now, all we see is the desert the further we go.”

The shirtless one doubted, looking like he just got out of a shower, sweating profusely and wearing only his jeans. He was born in the north and more used to the cold, so his heat tolerance was so much worse than the others!

For this reason, Wisana was lying on his back on the floor of a roofless carriage, defeated.

“Stop whining so much. We’re in the desert area, it means that we’re close to Aeneas now, you know?”

“That’s true, bro,” Manoch added. “Aeneas is a desert town. The more we travel across the sand, the more we’re close to getting there. Also, there’re no ports for airships or boats, so this is the only way. Just bear with it a bit.”

“Ugh! And why does the office have to be in the middle of a desert like this?” The one who was sensitive to heat yelled out with annoyance.

“I wanna know that as much as you do,” Maysa said tiringly before she threw herself to lie down on the carriage’s floor as well. The grey eyes glanced around at the old carriage that was made of shabby wood, then she sighed.

Actually, there were many better carriages for rent, even one with an air conditioner inside that came with a free driver.

But this was what she got when she asked for a rental carriage, a shabby box with two old birds!

Okay, she was just level 39. This was the best she could afford!

The girl got pissed by thinking about this again, so she was just lying there, clenching her jaws quietly by herself.

“May,” Wisana, who was lying next to her, started a conversation. Maysa released her jaws immediately.

“Yeah?”

“You haven’t told me what the master that the girl in the class registration office talked about is.” The other one forced out something from her throat, sounding like ‘Oh..’ Then she sat up again and looked back at him.

“The master’s like the head of an institution, or something like that.”

“What’s that? Sounds like a Chinese movie.” Wisana smiled, feeling amused.

“It’s the same energy, bro,” Manoch added. “In the Pride’s world, there are so many classes that you don’t have to waste your time counting them. Because this game system provides players with freedom to play in any style they like.”

“Freedom how?”

“Freedom like...” It’s the girl’s turn to speak, “no matter what class you are in, you can start a new class anytime you want, without any limits.

“I still don’t quite get it.” The one with a slow brain made an awkward face, rubbing his hair harshly.

“Well, for example, suppose you choose to be a swordsman in your first class. And when you finish level one in this class, you can just change to magician class if you like, without having to proceed with level two in swordsman class skills. So, briefly, you can play whatever you want.”

Listening to that, he rolled his eyes left and right.

“Isn’t it confusing playing like that?”

“Not really,” Manoch said. “Most people will mix the classes that support each other. If your first class is swordsman, and you choose magician as your second class. You’ll be able to mix the skills from the different classes together. For example, putting a spell on your sword to make it more efficient, something like that.”

The man nodded in acknowledgement before he turned to Maysa again.

“Okay. I started to understand the classes now. What about the master, though?”

“Well, apart from the countless classes that already exist, players like us can establish our own new class as well.”

“We can?!” Wisana asked excitedly.

“Yup, since most of the skills in the Pride game can be unlocked by achieving something. The same case with your pierce charge skill.

The more she explained, the more she confused Wisana. But it looked like Manoch knew that, so he tried to help.

“It’s about meeting the conditions of your character. For example, if you can dodge the attack 100 times in a roll, you’ll get the skill. Or, you have to attack an enemy and make more than one million damage points to get another skill, something like that.”

“Like when I dodged the attack 150 times in a roll, and I got the rerise skill, right?”

“Right,” Maysa replied. “However. These skills can’t be achieved by the same conditions for every player. It depends on the character’s abilities and class. Like, for you, your condition to unlock the skill was to dodge more than 150 attacks in a roll, but in my case, it could be attacking an enemy 50 times continuously. Who knows, right?”

“Oh, so, it’s like we get different exam packages.”

“That’s correct.” seeing him catching up with the lecture a bit, she smiled so sweetly, feeling all satisfied.

“And for this reason, there are some professional skill unlockers in the game. These players don’t care much about improving their levels. Instead, they’re obsessed with finding and unlocking new skills, collecting them, and filing a request to establish a new class at the class office. So, it’s like building a new institution, and the founder or the skills owner will be called master.”

“I see!” Wisana grinned so widely. “So, they’re like forming an institution to pass on their cultivation to the next generation of disciples, right?”

“Exactly, bro!” Manoch wanted to scream with joy that this slow-headed guy had finally caught up with him. “But I can see that you’ve watched too many Chinese martial hero dramas from the way you stated it.”

“Just let me be.” He brushed him off. “Well, don’t they unlock the same skills as other players sometimes?”

“They do.” Maysa nodded in agreement. “Those who want to establish a new class, they have to compete with the others to be faster and better.”

“Also,” the glasses one added, “to establish a new class, there have to be more than 100 suitable skills. Besides competing to unlock the new, unique skills, they also have to consider how fit those skills are for the opening class. For example, if you want to form a swordsman class, but a skill you just unlocked is some kind of gun shooting skill, this skill will become useless, right? In conclusion, opening a new class is very complicated with many conditions to meet. So, I can guarantee you that those class masters are the real experts!”

“Right. These masters are players like us, not NPC. So, try not to cause them trouble when you’re on the class quest if you don’t want to fail.”

The precluding words from her made Wisana look clearly disconsolate. The game was so realistic, there were even exams in the game, too. The gameplay allowed the players to live a life here independently, unlike other games that were too straightforward in one big storyline.

“Is the class quest difficult?”

“Not sure, because they are different for each class,” the little one replied carelessly.

“In my case, my master asked me to go find Ether flowers on the mountain. It wasn’t that hard, because there weren’t some tough monsters up there. But it was a very long walk. However, the merchant class is not about killing monsters anyway, so I was tested my patience instead,” Manoch said as he was trying to cheer him up.

Hearing that, Wisana glanced at the other girl, who had more experience, as if asking her to tell her story, too.

“My quest was just to kill a couple of 18 level monsters, a piece of cake.”

After hearing both of his friends assure him that the first-class quest was not as difficult as he thought, he let out a sigh of relief. Well, just like they said, it should not be too hard, since it was the first level exam. Maybe he would just have to kill a couple of monsters like Maysa did.

Thinking that, a smile started to appear on his sharp-featured face. Wisana got up to look at Manoch who was holding the rein, as he was reminded about something.

“Say, Manoch, you haven’t told me how much you got from patenting the butterfly effect.”

Right after that sentence, the lively face from a few seconds ago turned gloomy. The younger man pushed his thin-framed glasses up to make them fit better before he brought out his screen, looking pissed. In a few seconds, he brought out something and tossed it over his shoulder to Wisana.

The item made him raise his eyebrows. It was the butterfly effect that looked exactly the same, not being touched by any staff.

"Why do you give it back to me?" Wissana asked, confused.

“I’m not going to patent it.”
