Chapter 854: Swirling Sand

“Pup~itar!”

Pupitar called out to Terrance again, as if it wanted to share the delicious treat in front of it.

“Pupitar seems to really like the rocks here, Roto…” Rotom Pokédex scratched its head and began scanning, but didn’t find anything special.

They’re clearly just ordinary rocks… so why is Pupitar so obsessed with them?

“Castform, do you sense anything?”

“Castformmm~~~” Castform pondered for a moment before responding.

After Rotom Pokédex accurately translated its words, Terrance walked over to Pupitar and looked together with it at the pit.

Because Pupitar had already bitten off a small piece, there was a tooth mark on it; aside from that, it wasn’t much different from before.

“Any reaction from your body?” Terrance asked.

“Pup~itar.” Pupitar shook its head.“Don’t eat it recklessly for now. Let us check it first,” Terrance said.

As crunch, crunch sounds came from Pupitar’s side, Rotom Pokédex, Terrance, Beautifly, and Castform all fixed their gazes on it.

Pupitar seemed to genuinely love this mineral. It was devouring it ravenously. If the food hadn’t been rocks, Terrance suspected he’d already be drooling by now.

After a while, Terrance suddenly sensed something was wrong. The amount it was eating was almost comparable to its own body size.

Just as Terrance was about to tell Pupitar to stop, an astonishing change appeared on Pupitar’s body the very next moment…

Fine grains of sand began to appear out of thin air around Pupitar, swirling about its body. Terrance was certain that Beautifly had already cleared all the sand from this area, so the fine sand now emerging…

Sandstorm move?

Pupitar had only just completed its training in light–heavy mode switching and air current control, and hadn’t yet deeply touched upon Sandstorm move. Yet now, as it consumed the mysterious stone, the Sandstorm move seemed to awaken on its own, gathering around Pupitar’s body as if worshipping it…

Terrance’s hand froze midair; he was too late to stop it. Pupitar crunched another piece of rock and swallowed it.

Immediately after, the power of the sandstorm grew even stronger.

“Don’t you feel full?” Terrance asked.

“Pupitar” Pupitar shook its head while eating, then took another bite.

And so, with complicated expressions, Terrance and Rotom Pokédex watched as Pupitar kept eating the pit, making it deeper and rounder.

As Pupitar continued eating, the sandstorm power around it intensified further. Countless grains of yellow sand swept around its body, enveloping it, as if Pupitar were standing at the center of a sandstorm vortex.

This process… lasted a full forty minutes…

After that, Pupitar suddenly stopped. The sandstorm power collapsed, and if Beautifly hadn’t hurriedly blown away the sandstorm surging toward them, Terrance would probably have ended up covered in dirt again.

“What’s wrong?” Terrance asked in surprise.

Inside the hollow, Pupitar lay down weakly, its eyes dull, and it even… let out a satisfied burp.

“My guess is that even though Pupitar converted the food it ate into sandstorm energy, some impurities still remained, causing it to feel bloated… It probably needs some time to digest, Roto,” Rotom Pokédex said.

“That should be the case.” Seeing Pupitar so stuffed it couldn’t move, Terrance slapped his forehead and said, “But you won’t be able to digest it like this. Didn’t you just master a powerful sandstorm? Hurry up… and use the air pressure control technique you learned before practice shaping the sandstorm.”

“Pup~itar!”

Hearing that, Pupitar shook its head in despair. When you’re full, lying down is obviously more comfortable.

In the end, Pupitar still didn’t get up. Seeing that it was truly too stuffed, Terrance didn’t force it. However, he planned that next time Pupitar ate, he’d have it practice Sandstorm at the same time. Combining labor and eating might actually be quite efficient.
