The autumn wind rustled, blowing down withered leaves.
Time had advanced to October, and the mission in Black Dragon City was nearing its end.
The final outcome was just as Colby had said: the Underground World of Black Dragon City simply pushed out a scapegoat to take the blame. Not even Ronan and Winston, two core mid-level figures, were affected in any way, giving the investigation team a perfunctory response.
Jacob was not surprised by such a result; this was the way of this world.
With his current status, he was temporarily powerless to change this situation. Besides becoming stronger, Jacob had no other choice.
Zade had obviously anticipated this outcome long ago. He looked at Jacob and June, saying, "You've been away for a month. You two should hurry back to school. I still need to go back and write the summary report for this investigation."
Zade rubbed his head. Compared to the investigation itself, he detested writing the final investigation summary report even more.
This was the real challenge.
After all, it's not just about doing well, but also about documenting it well.
After waving goodbye to Zade, Jacob looked at June beside him. "Senior, are you going back to school?"
Perhaps because she was returning to the Capital from Black Dragon City, June was uncharacteristically dressed in a beautiful outfit today: a knee-length skirt and thin-heeled crystal high heels, showcasing her tall and slender figure, instantly transforming from a student into a fashionable urban professional.
"No, you don't need to worry about me." June shook her head. She had been bored to death staying in Black Dragon City for a month, and had already made plans to go shopping with her best friend before returning. "You go back to school first."
"Alright."
"Oh, right." June was about to leave when she suddenly thought of something and spoke. "Jacob, you are this year's Champion. Don't slack off when you get to university. Try to enter the G2 League early. I look forward to competing against you in an official match."
During that training match, Jacob had surrendered too readily. He didn't even use Mega Evolution or Drakloak. Therefore, after June went back, the more she thought about it, the more she felt that Jacob must have gone easy on her, and she was somewhat displeased with Jacob in her heart. "Next time, you must give it your all."
"Okay, Senior." Jacob replied somewhat noncommittally. "I also look forward to our match."
After they bid farewell, Jacob prepared to go back to school first. It had been a long time since he had seen Teacher Long, and Jacob missed her dearly.
However, it was still early, only 10 AM. Jacob decided to go see Kyle first.
Half a month ago, Jacob had received a call from Kyle. He remembered Kyle tearfully telling him he had broken up, but Jacob was very busy at the time and had no time to deal with Kyle's situation.
Actually, Jacob was still a bit worried about his good friend's state. Now that he was back in the Capital and had free time, it was a good opportunity to go see him and find out if Kyle had emerged from the shadow of his breakup.
"Hey, Kyle, where are you?" Jacob dialed Kyle's number and asked.
"I'm in the training room." Kyle's voice revealed a hint of surprise. "Jacob, you're back?"
"I'm back. Which training room are you in? I'll come find you." Jacob said.
"No need—where are you now? I'll come find you." Kyle said.
"I'm downstairs at Teaching Building One."
"Then just wait for me downstairs at Teaching Building One. I'll be right there."
After hanging up the phone, Jacob waited for about ten minutes before he saw a guy wearing sunglasses and dreadlocks walk up to him, take off his sunglasses, and wave and shout at Jacob. "Jacob!"
"Kyle?" Jacob's tone was filled with uncertainty. He carefully scrutinized Kyle in front of him, finding it hard to connect him with the Kyle from a month ago.
He had a full head of dreadlocks, dressed in trendy hip-hop attire, and walked with a swagger, looking quite stylish—very different from his previous appearance. But, surprisingly, he actually looked quite handsome.
"What is this...?" Jacob looked Kyle up and down and asked.
"Jacob." Kyle's lips curved into a smile, clearly satisfied with Jacob's reaction. "I've decided—I'm going to be a rapper Rock-type Gym Leader!"
"A rapper? Are you sure?" Jacob looked at Kyle suspiciously. He knew his good friend very well. Could he be a rapper when he had never studied music?
"First, give me a performance. I'll judge after that." Jacob said.
"I always cram at the last minute, cram at the last minute!"
"Stop... stop... You sang very well. Don't sing next time."
"Jacob, I'm just kidding, just messing with you." Kyle also said with a laugh. "I'm still in the learning phase. Once I master my skills, I'll definitely impress you."
Jacob quickly pulled the embarrassing Kyle away. He truly hadn't expected that Kyle, in his lovelorn state, would choose to embark on the path of a rapper.
However, Jacob actually supported his good friend's choice. After all, they were young people; if finances weren't an issue, they should do what they wanted to do.
Although Kyle had no foundation, his family was wealthy, so even starting from scratch now was still not too late.
"Are you really planning to be a rapper?" Jacob and Kyle found a place to sit down casually, and the two friends began to chat.
"Yes." Kyle nodded, then sighed, looking up at the sky, his expression becoming serious and earnest. "I want to change myself—start working out, learn to rap, train my Pokémon. This time, I must win! I want to compete in the G3, G2, and G1 Leagues, the Gym Leader Ranking Tournament, and become the youngest Gym Leader in the Capital! I want to change myself and become the best version of myself."
Jacob listened to Kyle's grand words, feeling a slight emotion. Indeed, an unrequited love can make a person grow faster. However, he was also a little worried that Kyle was just having a burst of temporary enthusiasm, and couldn't help but ask, "Weren't you going to have a passionate romance? How did your outlook change so drastically?"
"Jacob, do you know?" Kyle lowered his head and looked at Jacob sitting on the bench. "I pursued Senior Valerias for two weeks. Half a month ago, I confessed to Senior Valerias, and her eyes were very calm, as if she had expected this scene long ago."
"It was only that day that I learned she had always had a boyfriend, but she never explicitly rejected me."
"From then on, I understood a truth."
"The knight always protects the princess, but the princess will always marry the prince."
"The dragon will never harm the princess, so the prince will always be able to save the princess."
"I am not her prince, so naturally, I won't get her true heart."
"When I decided to humbly beg for love, begging for her response, I was already wrong."
"Love is never about making yourself suffer, but about making yourself happy. Even if my humility earned her pity, our relationship would still come to nothing."
"Therefore, making yourself excellent enough, meeting someone who is compatible with you in life and soul, and becoming the prince in someone else's heart—that is true love."
Jacob looked up, staring at Kyle in surprise, his eyes revealing a hint of disbelief.
Was this still the Kyle he knew?
"Kyle, are you serious?"
Kyle smiled and looked at Jacob. "Jacob, if you slack off, I might surpass you."
