Chapter 619 619: Shadow Storm

The massive circular stadium stood deathly silent. You could hear a pin drop.

John walked forward into the arena.

Empty.

The spectators, the referees, all had been cleared away.

John remembered his previous battle with Shadow Mewtwo, everything around them had been frozen like someone pressed pause, all people stopping motionless as though time itself had halted. Now, they simply weren't present at all.

At the arena's center, on the elevated battle platform, a figure stood wreathed in deep, pitch-black energy. Arms crossed, expression cold and indifferent.

Shadow Mewtwo silently observed John, as though it had been waiting an eternity.

"You've finally arrived!"

"You're much stronger now. So tell me, can you defeat me this time?" Shadow Mewtwo extended one hand toward John.

BOOM!!!

Psychic pressure erupted like a tidal wave, crushing down with enough force to pulverize stone.

This time, John didn't close his eyes. He didn't dodge. He simply stared back at Shadow Mewtwo with the same silent intensity.

Gardevoir materialized before John from empty air, completing Mega Evolution in an instant. The crown atop her head blazed with power as she extended both hands forward.

"Protect!"

An invisible barrier enveloped both John and Mega Gardevoir within its protection.

Though one could hear sounds like shattering glass as the barrier strained, the shield held firm. Any cracks that appeared instantly repaired themselves, restoring to pristine condition. Shadow Mewtwo's assault couldn't completely shatter the defense.

"Blocked it. Very easily, in fact." Shadow Mewtwo's attack reminded John of the first time he'd encountered this being.

Back then, he'd just conquered the Unova League. Shadow Mewtwo descended, saying something about wanting John to defeat it, then casually extended one hand, and John had been slammed face-first into the ground.

Wide Guard, Safeguard, Light Screen, Protect, deploying them all simultaneously hadn't prevented the humiliation.

Now a single Protect could easily shield both John and Gardevoir. The progress Gardevoir had made in the intervening time was staggering.

Shadow Mewtwo's expression didn't change, but its eyes lifted slightly, looking down, yet unmistakably showing awakened battle interest.

A moment later, Shadow Mewtwo suddenly vanished from sight, teleporting to the higher sky. Its right hand pointed downward.

"Shadow Storm!"

Pillar-like black tornadoes erupted from the ground without warning. Within a single breath, they split, one became three, three became nine. All nine tornadoes simultaneously hammered the barrier.

Behind John, his battle strategy began unfolding.

Three Pokeballs flew through the air simultaneously.

Gengar, Aggron, Tyranitar entered the field.

"MEGA EVOLUTION!"

All three Pokemon Mega Evolved simultaneously upon entry.

When Shadow Mewtwo tried escaping this ancient pressure, it discovered the space surrounding it had been locked down. Instant escape was impossible. As it moved to launch a Shadow Break forward, it found itself already falling into the Distortion World.

"Supreme Continental Fall!!!" John continued issuing attack commands.

Mega Tyranitar and Mega Aggron began their assault.

One hundred meters in the air, two massive transport gateways slowly opened, one above, one below. Two gigantic meteors descended from within.

Shadow Mewtwo clearly saw the meteors falling from the sky, but paid them no attention. Its gaze remained fixed on Mega Gardevoir maintaining the protective screen. Instinct told it this represented the greatest threat.

For a being that had lived long in the wild, instinct was its most reliable asset.

"Shadow Rush!"

Shadow Mewtwo immediately transformed into a black shockwave descending from above, using its own terrifying power to crash against the barrier.

Under normal circumstances, Mega Gardevoir's Future Sight would prove very difficult to effectively land against Shadow Mewtwo.

But now, Mega Gardevoir's psychic power level exceeded even what Arceus itself could match.(Supposedly)

While activating Future Sight, Mega Gardevoir added Trick Room, thoroughly reinforcing the dimensional space that Mega Tyranitar and Mega Aggron had constructed.

Within Trick Room, the fast became slow, and the slow became fast.

As a Psychic-type technique also connected to spatial forces, Mega Gardevoir was the absolute master controller. No matter how powerful Shadow Mewtwo might be, regardless of how its Dark-type attributes reduced other type-effectiveness by half on its body, before the miraculous phenomenon of Trick Room, its speed now matched Mega Aggron's sluggish pace!

The natural order had been inverted.

Now Shadow Mewtwo found every movement laborious!

Forget escaping, even raising an arm proved difficult!

John stood silently in the distance, watching a giant meteor crash down, pinning Shadow Mewtwo beneath their crushing weight.

BOOM!!!!

The Distortion World's ground shook violently, causing even space itself to tremble. Such an attack would have annihilated most ordinary Legendary Pokemon outright.

But the current opponent was Shadow Mewtwo. What would the actual effect be?
