Chapter 500: Forced Disengagement

Chapter 500: Forced Disengagement

The red wristband player, having preemptively chosen the door Jiang Feng had his eye on, still failed to walk out. Stepping through the door, he instead found the front had once again become the multi-door pattern from before, with identical doors in every direction. He had no idea which way to go. So, he turned around and retreated back to the silver door he came from. Unfortunately, after returning the way he came, the area behind the door was still filled with countless doors.

"You can't go back to the previous place." The red wristband player only now felt regret. If he had followed Jiang Feng, even if he went the wrong way, there would still be a chance to turn back. Now, he wanted to go back but couldn't. Moreover, since he had gone the wrong way, it meant Jiang Feng's door was the correct one.

"He must have deliberately led me to choose this door so he could get out!"

Feeling he had been tricked, the red wristband player wore an expression of annoyance. Glancing at the surrounding doors, he gritted his teeth, randomly picked one, and charged in.

In this manner, he passed through several doors in succession. Only then did the number of portals in the world behind the doors begin to decrease, and silver-gray doors appeared once more. Overjoyed, he was just about to walk towards one when he suddenly noticed another silver-gray door a bit further away. Jiang Feng's figure flashed past the edge of that door and slipped into the door right next to it.

Without a second thought, he followed.

"Mr. Jiang!" The surrounding environment was constantly changing. The single doors gradually transformed into a world filled with various frames, and the frames were also enterable. The red wristband player followed behind Jiang Feng, watching him go from one door into another, or from a door into a painting.

Seeing his movements so swift and decisive, the red wristband player became even more certain Jiang Feng had already found a way out. As he sped up, he couldn't help but call out to him again. However, he didn't expect Jiang Feng to clearly have no intention of taking him along. Hearing the shout, Jiang Feng didn't even turn his head, instead quickening his pace.

"Damn it!" The red wristband player cursed and gave chase, not even bothering to look at the surroundings. He ran for several minutes straight before finally stopping, because by then the original door world had drastically changed. The space all around him, front, back, left, and right, had turned into a study.

The moving studies were like endlessly rotating cylinders, one layer nested within another. Opening a door still led to a study. Not only front, back, left, and right, but sometimes doors would even appear above and below. Caught off guard, the red wristband player's footing gave way beneath him and he plummeted downward. Fortunately, his reaction was quick enough, and he dangerously managed to grab the edge of the floor. However, he couldn't climb back up either, because the studies began to shift positions at an extremely fast speed, swinging him along and making him sway all over the place. He couldn't find any leverage point. Occasionally, if his grip slipped, he would fall to the next layer down. And with each layer he fell, the room above him would close up again.

While the red wristband player was struggling, Xu Huo turned his attention back to Jiang Feng's side.

Jiang Feng was more astute. After climbing the stairs for a long time without reaching an exit, he began to realize this escape route might be fake. Therefore, halfway up, he started searching for other exits.

This was an illusion created by the Mental World; there would be no real way out. But after feeling around on the staircase for a while, Xu Huo modified the steps, opening a door on them.

Finding the door, Jiang Feng wasn't as elated as before. He cautiously walked through and, upon discovering it was a study, immediately sneered coldly. He reached a hand to his chest and pressed down hard.

Within the illusion, the purpose of Jiang Feng's action wasn't clear, but in reality, Jiang Feng had installed an electric shock device at his chest position. Pressing it could jolt a person awake through strong stimulation.

Xu Huo's brow furrowed deeply. Jiang Feng hadn't delved deep enough into the Mental World. Once he realized his situation, he could use other methods to wake himself up.

Drawing someone into the Mental World couldn't truly imprison them. That is to say, they could still use items, but influenced by the illusion, when trying to retrieve an item, they might think they couldn't open their game panel, or they might not actually take out an item at all, merely performing a corresponding action. The deeper they fell in, the more split their senses and body became, especially if they didn't realize it was the Mental World. Once they realized, it wouldn't be so easy to fool them again. They could even ignore the influence of the Mental World and continue using items!

Jiang Feng suspected he might have fallen into an illusion, but he couldn't activate his items. That's why he pressed the device on his chest—it was just a simple action, and the most likely to be completed, assuming he wasn't completely unconscious or had lost his senses.

In reality, Xu Huo's skill wasn't sufficient yet. Although Jiang Feng didn't successfully use an item, he did manage to press the electric shock device. The intense shock jolted him awake. Opening his eyes, he saw he was still standing in his original position, with Xu Huo right in front of him. His finger twitched, and the heavy rain began to fall again!

They hadn't been in the Mental World for long, so the "Absolute Safety Distance" hadn't expired yet. Therefore, after Jiang Feng snapped out of the item's effect, Xu Huo punched through the rain curtain, sending him flying!

The effect of the "Counting Squares" item ended, but the kite string was still threaded through Jiang Feng's leg. He crashed into the wall, turned around, and just as he got an item in his hand, it suddenly fell to the ground.

In his surprise, he looked at Xu Huo, only to find the other had already, with lightning speed, killed that red wristband player!

Feeling underestimated, Jiang Feng raised a hand. A palm-sized magnetic suction device appeared in it. Between two pieces of metal was a small, spinning white energy sphere. He pinched the metal pieces together, pressing them inward. The white energy sphere flew out, expanding into a half-meter diameter tornado!

The tornado shot towards Xu Huo like a spinning throwing dart. Wherever it passed, even the metal on the ground was plowed open into a long, deep crack, extending forward at an extremely fast speed.

Xu Huo, having just dealt with the red wristband player, was in front of the shelter. He wanted to dodge this wind, but as soon as he changed direction, the wind crashed into the shelter. Bouncing the shelter, it changed direction and accelerated towards him!

"Absolute Safety Distance" had expired. Whether dodging or using the shelter as cover was too late. Xu Huo steadied himself on the spot and placed the fresh, hot-off-the-press item, "The Severing Ties Door," upright in front of him!

"The Severing Ties Door" was the defensive item previously used by the red wristband player. Once the big door closed, it recognized no one. It seemed it could only block one side, but in reality, when the item was impacted, the person behind the door wouldn't suffer the residual shockwaves.

Just in case, he also poured the other red wristband player's "Weakening Eraser" outside the door. This thing could even neutralize the force of a water jet gun, so it should serve a purpose.

With two items stacked, the effect was better than Xu Huo imagined. The tornado that could knock the shelter aside merely pushed him back a meter upon colliding with the door. Seizing this opportunity, he drew his sword and swept it towards Jiang Feng!

Over there, Jiang Feng used a folding fan to block the cutting edge of the sword energy, then charged forward in a quick step. A black leather glove appeared on his hand, and he made a pinching motion in the air towards Xu Huo's neck!

Moving Metal blocked this attack. Xu Huo retracted the shelter, his body leaping into the air. He sliced through the seaweed outside the window and jumped out, dragging Jiang Feng along with him.
