Chapter 471: Flying Kites
Chapter 471: Flying Kites
The car-slaughtering monster, also known as the blood mutant, is originally formed from degenerated players with decent strength. They don't like eating people, but they enjoy killing them with violent methods. Xu Huo encountered one on his first train ride to District 011. Its speed and strength were both astonishing. For such mutants, you cannot estimate their average power level. If they were strong as players, they remain strong after becoming mutants.
He later researched information on blood mutants. Their numbers aren't large, and they usually appear alone. Occasionally, two or three might travel together. But the current quantity is completely abnormal!
"Could Laurence Li have come specifically for the car-slaughtering monsters?" the Tattooed Man said.
The player standing by the coffin-like box replied expressionlessly, "Try to see if we can lure him out."
The Tattooed Man nodded, then gestured to a player beside him. The two took out a crescent-moon-shaped piece of jade and pressed it against the metal wall on the right. The crescent rapidly expanded into a portal large enough to pass through. After shooting a mutant trying to squeeze in, the Tattooed Man grabbed the top of the crescent and flipped out.
Only after the two exited did a third player come and seal the entrance with ice. The excess ice grew upward along the carriage wall. That player then wiped the ice surface, and an image of the carriage roof appeared on the ice covering the crescent portal.
The Tattooed Man and his companion stood inside a massive box-like container that resembled an open box, luring all the mutants to the front to be killed. Although the blood mutants were fast, that box container item had a very convenient defensive function: things could only go out, not come in.
Every time the mutants attacked the two men, they were blocked by a light screen. Meanwhile, the attacks from the Tattooed Man and his partner could harm the mutants outside without any hindrance!
"This item is way too useful!" Dr. Deng exclaimed in admiration.
Xu Huo also saw the entire process. This item clearly had flaws. First, although the box container looked bulky and could withstand the strong airflow outside the train, it wasn't completely immovable. Under the frequent impacts from the mutants, the box shifted significantly. Also, after the two men entered the box, they stopped using guns and switched to cold weapons like knives and swords, indicating there were offensive limitations.
Nevertheless, it was a very practical item, exceptionally useful in the current environment.
His gaze lingered on the box container item. An escort personnel standing next to him, wiping his gun, gave him a warning look.
Xu Huo consciously moved aside.
But then, a sudden change occurred. The box container on the roof was flipped over by an unknown force!
The heavy box tumbled off the train. The two men urgently disengaged, but before they could descend, they were surrounded by swarming blood mutants. Their defensive items were breached. The Tattooed Man had an arm violently torn off!
"Crack! Crack!" The ice on the crescent portal rapidly grew, crawling over the carriage and freezing both people and mutants together.
Then, the two men broke free from the ice and quickly returned inside the carriage.
Just as the crescent portal closed, the frozen mutants also broke free and began frantically damaging the train again.
The Tattooed Man brought his severed arm back inside. He wrapped it with a bandage, quickly poured two bottles of potion over it, and that counted as reattaching it.
"That item just now was such a pity!" Dr. Deng said urgently and regretfully. "It was so convenient for killing mutants!"
"That was just a large box made from A-grade metal," the Tattooed Man said indifferently. "There are plenty more."
Dr. Deng paused, somewhat embarrassed, and closed his mouth.
These people were calm and unruffled, but the six people in Carriage One were both shocked and furious. The mutants they had managed to lure away were now back, and the people in Carriage Two clearly had no intention of taking action again.
"Since we can't live, then you won't either!" Vivi sneered at the players in Carriage Two and threw out a miniature bomb!
The people beside her, and the escort personnel whose expressions changed upon seeing the bomb, immediately reached out to stop her, but they were too late. Everyone clearly saw the flames from the explosion being momentarily contained by an invisible force, but the next second, it was blasted apart!
The powerful shockwave from the explosion completely shattered the protective shields outside both carriages. Carriage One was already battered and torn, and one injured player was even blasted out of the train by the impact. Carriage Two deployed a secondary defense. Although the outer metal carriage was blown open, an almost identical metal box container immediately blocked the front, so they suffered little damage. Even Dr. Deng wasn't hurt.
This explosive force also knocked off most of the mutants. By now, the train had passed the cliff section. Grasslands stretched on both sides. Those mutants that had been thrown off the train but weren't dead yet quickly got up and began chasing the train again!
Now, apart from the locomotive, the train only had the floors of a few carriages left. Although its speed had decreased somewhat, the powerful airflow was still hard to withstand, even with some cover!
But that wasn't the most urgent issue. Watching the mutants gathering from all directions, Xu Huo took out the Crimson Sword and signaled Dr. Deng to retreat into the crowd. However, not only did he not retreat, he took out a music box and said loudly, "This is an item Kong Cheng gave me!"
Xu Huo watched him open the music box. A circle of pink, circular light arcs appeared around them. As the little figure inside the music box turned, the light arcs outside also rotated. They didn't seem fast, but when the first mutant charged in and had half its head instantly ground away, the item's power became apparent. In the next dozen seconds, the item sliced off the heads of several dozen mutants!
Dr. Deng was more surprised than anyone. "This item is so awesome, and Kong Cheng actually gave it to me!"
Xu Huo glanced at him. "You weren't a player when he gave it to you."
Some effects of items can only be used by players, but the items themselves are also weapons. Like a sword: in his hands, it can produce sword energy; in others' hands, it's still a sharp weapon.
"That's true," Dr. Deng sighed, then immediately added, "But this effect only lasts a minute and a half."
"Can it move?" Xu Huo asked.
"Yes," Dr. Deng replied, quickly following him as he indicated a direction. He saw Xu Huo pull a line out from a crack in a metal plate at the edge of the floor that hadn't been completely blown away.
It was kite string.
When he saw the metal box container, Xu Huo had already sent out the line through gaps in the carriage. The carriage being breached was inevitable. He wasn't sure if he could keep up with the train's speed. If he could tether a chasing mutant or retrieve the metal box container, it would be good for him.
Of course, he initially thought the metal box container was an item, and items might not be usable with kite string. He just didn't expect the metal box container to fall off the train. He was just testing, and it happened to get threaded.
He pulled the box container floating in the sky back and placed it on the carriage floor. Coincidentally, the music box's time limit ended then. He wrapped Dr. Deng with the kite string and threw him out, then stood at the opening of the box container, killing the mutants that came wave after wave!
