Chapter 390: Gentleman of Light

Chapter 390: Gentleman of Light

"The background information of some people who commissioned him has also been verified. They were just involved in petty theft and have nothing to do with this matter." Shi Youzhi signaled for him to look closely at the video. "See if you can find anything different."

It had to be said, Xu Huo really did spot an acquaintance—Deng Xuan.

However, in the video, the two were only trading stimulants.

The timing was a bit coincidental;

it was on the same day he was being followed.

Actually, just looking at these videos alone, it was impossible to connect these incidents, but Xu Huo's intuition told him Deng Xuan was related to the attack on the base personnel.

This was quite interesting. If the Rongxin Group's goods came from the sea, why would they need to destroy stations outside the base city?

So, his earlier speculation about the storage room might not be correct.

"There is one person I have seen, though," he turned back to Shi Youzhi and said. "On the train I took to District 011, he was peddling items and potions."

Shi Youzhi nodded, clearly already aware. "That person is called Deng Xuan. He often appears on trains and hasn't caused any trouble."

"By the way, would you like to come work at the base?"Xu Huo was surprised. "You're recruiting?"

Shi Youzhi glanced at him. "Isn't that why you came here? However, auxiliary personnel cannot obtain grey player status, but items and potions can be provided at cost price. If you want to get a couple of good items, it's much cheaper than outside."

Xu Huo gave a bitter smile. "I have no money right now."

Shi Youzhi didn't find this strange. "Being poor is the norm. You'll get used to it. Consider this you helping out. I'll add a bonus for you when the month-end settlement is done."

Xu Huo thanked him and then asked, "Employees get an internal price... is it possible to buy Grade A items or Super Items?"

Shi Youzhi didn't even lift his eyelids. "I don't have that authority. If you have the money, you can apply with Sanyang, but whether he gives it to you is another matter."

"He was originally a player and knows a lot about game dungeons. You can go ask him if you have any questions."

The Sanyang he mentioned was the curly-haired middle-aged man Xu Huo had met last time.

After taking his leave, Xu Huo went to Sanyang's office. The middle-aged man's hair was even curlier than before, looking like it hadn't been groomed for days. He stood amidst a pile of Square Boxes, drinking a potion while reviewing files. Different video feeds projected a circular playback band around him. Besides watching himself, two pairs of anthropomorphic metal eyes floated behind his head, rapidly scanning the footage.

Hearing the sound, he didn't stop, just pointed to the side, signaling to sit and wait.

Xu Huo moved the Square Boxes from the chair onto the table and waited silently until he finished watching the video content.

Sanyang turned around, grabbed the two pairs of eyes, and rubbed them in his hands like walnuts. "These were my items back when I was still a player, specifically for last-minute cramming. They're equivalent to having two extra pairs of eyes, allowing me to view things multiple times faster."

Xu Huo gave a thumbs-up.

The curly-haired middle-aged man had dark circles under his eyes. "The daily workload was already heavy, and now I'm pulling all-nighters. Thanks to you."

"Sorry." Despite saying this, Xu Huo's face showed little expression of guilt. Instead, he said, "The base and District 011 don't interfere with each other. Even if you really find out someone deliberately destroyed the station, what can you do?"

Sanyang gave a dry laugh. "We can't, but someone else can."

He didn't want to elaborate and changed the topic. "I've heard Old Shi talk about the matter. You're a smart person. Coincidentally, we're short-handed here, and he also wants to bring you into the base."

"However, let me say this upfront. From the fifth floor upwards, this building has strict surveillance measures. Entering without permission will have serious consequences. You might be directly transported to a high-risk dungeon. Then you'll learn there are things in this world more terrifying than death."

"The reason the base is short-handed is because auxiliary players stole classified information?" Xu Huo immediately caught on.

"You guessed right. So, some players were fired along with them." Sanyang said gravely. "Do you want to know where the fired people went?"

"Probably also implicated and sent to high-risk dungeons." Xu Huo said calmly. "What important items are stored above the fifth floor?"

"I'm not clear on that either. I haven't been there." Sanyang said frankly. "But when working here, don't be too curious unless you have another purpose."

Xu Huo waved his hand. "I just want to buy some potions and items at a low price."

Sanyang kicked out a box from under his feet. "Inside is H-version evolution agent. It's currently the most effective evolution agent. It's yours."

Xu Huo stopped the box with his foot and smiled. "How can I accept this?"

"Consider it an early employee benefit." Sanyang didn't care much about this bit of potion. "Do you have anything else?"

"One thing." Xu Huo took out the Gentleman of Light medal. "I want to know what this medal is for."

Sanyang looked at him with surprise. "Didn't peg you for a good guy."

"The Gentleman of Light, as the name suggests, is generally awarded by the game for good deeds. This thing doesn't have any special effects, but it has high recognition in partitions with relatively well-established game order. Any commercial establishment run by the Game Government will look more favorably upon players holding a Gentleman of Light medal."

"Additionally, if you want to join the Game Government, this medal can serve as a stepping stone, offering at least a certain chance of being employed by a government unit and becoming a grey player."

Xu Huo narrowed his eyes slightly at him. "You also joined the Game Government by having a medal?"

Sanyang laughed heartily. "I'm different. My medal was obtained by killing ten players. Ten medals exchanged for one grey player identity."

Xu Huo gave a low chuckle. "This medal isn't mine either."

Sanyang wasn't surprised. "If you have this medal, you can get a further discount when buying items and potions. I'll note it down for you when you buy items."

"The District 011 government also recognizes the Gentleman of Light medal. Where there are anti-game factions, there are pro-game factions. Figure out who they are yourself. Someone will show you the ropes."

Xu Huo nodded, got up to leave. When he reached the door, Sanyang suddenly said, "Do you think the Dimensional Rift game is evil or good?"

"Labeling a game as evil or good?" Xu Huo didn't answer the question directly but instead asked in return. "Isn't it people who have distinctions between good and bad?"

Sanyang nodded and then buried himself back in his work.

Xu Huo pulled the door open and walked out, running into Wan Tingfang. She looked a bit surprised. "Are you staying here to work?"

"I didn't expect both of us to be able to stay. It's really worth celebrating. Let's find a time to have a meal together."

"Let's talk about it another day. I've made plans with someone else these couple of days." Xu Huo said with a smile.

"Alright then." Wan Tingfang waved at him and entered Sanyang's office.

Xu Huo looked at the glass door that closed and then blended seamlessly with the wall. After two seconds, he turned and left. Taking a trip to the restroom, he came out just in time to see Ran Ying entering the building with two robots named Cheng Bing, heading straight for Shi Youzhi's office.
