Chapter 667: There Can't Be Someone That Strong!
Chapter 667: There Can't Be Someone That Strong!
A dense mist enshrouded the banks of Ting Lake, obscuring the view.
Just then, a striking female police officer arrived, flanked by two burly male officers. All three were armed.
The female officer, appearing to be in her twenties, had delicate, beautiful features. Her black hair was tied back in a ponytail, and she exuded a valiant, formidable aura as she fearlessly surveyed her surroundings.
One of the male officers was in his thirties, the other in his early twenties.
"Captain Xue, this is the Zhao family's estate! Are we really going to investigate here?" the middle-aged officer asked worriedly. "This is a Martial Dao family with a legacy spanning over a thousand years. We small-time cops shouldn't be meddling in their affairs."
This officer, Qian Gang, was in his thirties and had been with the police force for many years. Despite his seniority, he hadn't achieved much and remained a regular officer. Being older, he had seen more and knew a fair bit. As he looked towards the Ting Lake villas, his expression was wary, his gaze shifting uncertainly over the mist-enveloped lake.
"Old Qian, you've got it all wrong!" the other, younger officer said passionately. "We're here to investigate a homicide! It doesn't matter if it's a Martial Dao family or a dance troupe! We have to get to the bottom of this! This concerns the lives of five girls, all in the flower of their youth!"
His name was Chen Fang. He had recently graduated from the police academy with excellent results and secured a position at the Beijing Yangming District Police Station. An idealistic and ambitious young man, he possessed a fiery sense of justice. Encountering such a major case so soon after joining the force thrilled him, and he was determined to assist Captain Xue in thoroughly investigating it and bringing justice to the girls who had vanished without a trace.
"This thick fog at the Zhao residence is truly unsettling," Captain Xue remarked, her expression solemn as she gazed at the mist over Ting Lake, a hint of amazement in her voice. "It's somewhat like what my cousin described as a Formation. It's incredible!"
Her name was Xue Shuang. She had previously served as a police captain in Tianhai's Dongpu District. With the assistance of a young man named Qin Heng, she had thwarted a terrorist attack by the foreign organization Danbrus. Commended for her bravery, she was subsequently transferred to Beijing. Xue Qinan was her cousin.
"Captain Xue, you see it too. This isn't something we low-ranking officers should get involved in!" Qian Gang said, his face etched with worry. "You can laugh at me for being timid, but we cops know not to underestimate the capabilities of these Martial Artists; they're practically inhuman!"
"Old Qian, you're just being a coward!" Chen Fang retorted, indignant. "Where's your sense of justice as a police officer? So what if those Martial Artists are formidable? Don't we have guns?!"
"What's wrong with that? Aren't police officers human? Can't we be afraid to die? You might be single, but I have a wife and kids to support!" Qian Gang seemed incensed. Glaring at Chen Fang, he snapped,
"Kid, you have no idea how strong these Martial Artists are! Guns? Against some of the truly powerful ones, even rocket launchers are useless!"
"You're talking nonsense! How could people that powerful exist in this world?" Chen Fang scoffed, clearly unconvinced. "I think you're just scared. Captain Xue, why don't we let Old Qian go back? He's still worried about his wife and kids!"
"Both of you, be quiet!" Xue Shuang interjected, her brow furrowed. "This case still needs investigation. Numerous clues indicate the Ting Lake villa is definitely connected to the recent disappearances of young girls. We can't ignore it. As for Martial Artists…"
She couldn't help but recall the young man she had met in Tianhai. He had single-handedly neutralized the terrorist threat from Danbrus, his strength terrifyingly extreme. Even with guns, against such a formidable individual, they would likely be useless.
"The strength of Martial Artists is indeed extraordinary," Xue Shuang said solemnly. "And with the Zhao family's thousand-year legacy, they might even have a Grandmaster of Transcendence. We must proceed with extreme caution. Understood?"
"Don't worry, Captain! Haha! I aced my marksmanship assessment!" Chen Fang patted his chest confidently.
Beyond his fervent desire to solve the case, he also hoped to impress Captain Xue. After all, a police beauty like her was a rare sight. If he could win her heart, his luck would be astronomical!
"Hmph, marksmanship. Truly useless…" Qian Gang muttered, shaking his head. "I once saw a Grandmaster of Transcendence. He exhaled, and his breath became a sword. A flash of white light, and it sliced a rocket in half!"
"Old Qian, you've been reading too many novels, haven't you! Haha!" Chen Fang laughed. He was about to say more when a sudden pang of panic struck his heart…
BOOM!
A deafening explosion ripped through the air above Ting Lake, rumbling like a thousand simultaneous thunderclaps. A howling wind surged forth with a storm-like roar, sweeping through the dense fog that blanketed the two-hundred-mile wide lake, causing it to churn violently.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!
It was as if a Giant Dragon wreathed in furious gales danced within the thick fog. Its terrifying power swept in all directions, actually blowing the perennial dense fog skyward, gradually revealing the outline of Ting Lake!
The banks of Ting Lake trembled violently. The ground quaked violently, and a myriad of cracks spiderwebbed across its surface—a terrifying sight!
Simultaneously, a gaping hole tore open in the sky. Fierce winds poured down from it, colliding with the terrifying force that dispersed the fog and unleashing an immensely horrifying shockwave.
WHOOSH!
The two-hundred-mile expanse of Ting Lake shuddered, sending waves over a hundred meters high surging into the air. Instantly, the sky darkened and daylight vanished. A fierce storm descended within seconds, the very heavens transforming dramatically!
Amidst such sudden, violent changes, Xue Shuang, Chen Fang, and Qian Gang all slumped to the ground. Their faces were pale as they watched the unfolding scene in utter horror.
It was too terrifying! Too frightening! What on earth was happening?!
"What is that? Oh my God!" Chen Fang exclaimed, pointing towards the distance in disbelief, his expression one of utter shock.
There, amidst swirling layers of colorful, bizarre light, a youthful figure stood upon the void. He seemed aloof and ethereal, as if treading upon the very laws of heaven and earth, transcending all mortal principles.
Beside him stood three women. Though their faces were indistinct, their silhouettes and auras alone suggested they were celestial fairies, beings one could never encounter in the Mortal World.
Opposite these four, towering black clouds loomed, covering a dozen kilometers and pressing down on everything. The mere sight felt like it could make one's head explode; Chen Fang grew dizzy from just a single glance.
"It's people! Two groups fighting!" Xue Shuang cried out, her voice laced with shock and disbelief, her expression horrified. "Oh my God! Can humans truly possess such power?!"
"Martial Artists… That's right! These are true Martial Artists!" Qian Gang's face was ashen, his eyes filled with despair. He sighed, "It's over. It's all over. We're doomed…"
BOOM!!
A flash of lightning tore through the black fog in the distance. Its heaven-shattering, earth-rending might enveloped the entire two-hundred-mile expanse of Ting Lake!
Zhao Yuyang roared!
"Qin Xuantian, you're courting death! Take my lightning!"
