Gong Juechen stopped talking, simply reaching out his hand to the man in black, who immediately understood and handed over a thick wad of silver notes to Gong Juechen.

However, Gong Juechen did not take that much; he only took three ten-thousand tael silver notes from the pile.

After putting the thirty thousand taels of silver notes back in his pocket, Gong Juechen stood up and walked out, not even looking at the men in black.

As soon as he left the brothel, Gong Juechen returned to the home he shared with Ye Zhi, and before he even entered the house, the young servant at the gate said to Gong Juechen, "Master, the housekeeper told me to tell you that as soon as Madam heard you went to the brothel, she left the mansion, and we don’t know where she’s gone."

As soon as Gong Juechen heard this, he immediately turned around and headed to the King of Xiyun’s mansion.

Other than An Jing’s place, Gong Juechen couldn’t think of where his Zhizhi would go.

Upon arriving at the King of Xiyun’s mansion, a guard at the gate approached and said, "Doctor Gong, the King wants me to tell you that Miss Ye is at the courtyard where she used to live."

Pausing for a moment, the guard added, "Because of your visit to the brothel."

Gong Juechen instantly burst into laughter.

"Thank you," Gong Juechen thanked the guard before entering the King of Xiyun’s mansion.

Once inside, Gong Juechen headed straight to the courtyard where Ye Zhi lived, as if he knew the way by heart. The corridor was lit by lanterns, and with the moonlight casting its glow, the night in the King of Xiyun’s mansion wasn’t too dark.

Ye Zhi’s courtyard was quite far from the main gate of the mansion; Gong Juechen walked for quite a while before he arrived at the entrance. Seeing that the courtyard door was closed and there seemed to be light inside, Gong Juechen didn’t climb over the wall but instead knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" a maid responded.

Gong Juechen said, "It’s me, Gong Juechen."

The maid quickly came to open the door.

As the door opened, the maid gave a slight bow to Gong Juechen and said, "Miss Ye is already asleep."

"Got it, you can all leave now, no need for your service," seeing there was another maidservant attending inside the courtyard, Gong Juechen sent them all away.

"Yes." The two maidservants gave a slight bow before respectfully leaving the courtyard.

Gong Juechen closed the courtyard door before walking towards the room where Ye Zhi was staying.

There were four lanterns hanging on both sides of the courtyard; two of them were lit, allowing Gong Juechen to walk without any obstruction to the door of Ye Zhi’s room. Afraid of scaring his Zhizhi, he didn’t use any tricks to get inside but knocked on the door and called softly, "Zhizhi, it’s me, your Chenchen, please open the door for me."

Although the room’s lights were out, Ye Zhi hadn’t fallen asleep. Hearing the maid ask who it was, she knew Gong Juechen had arrived, and her ears immediately perked up, afraid of missing anything.

Upon hearing Gong Juechen say he was her Chenchen, she felt goosebumps rise all over her body and cursed in her mind, "Ugh, can’t you not be so greasy! Every time it’s like this!"

"Zhizhi~~~" not hearing any sound from inside the room, Gong Juechen’s voice dragged on, obviously on purpose.

But Ye Zhi was still startled by the prolonged sound.

"Zhizhi, open the door for your husband, Zhizhi~" Gong Juechen elongated his call to Ye Zhi again. The more he dragged it out, the bigger the smile on Gong Juechen’s face, indicating his growing interest.

He never tired of teasing his wife.

"Zhizhi, if you really don’t want to open the door for me, that’s okay; but if I come in by myself, I hope you won’t get scared, because if you do, I’d be heartbroken."

Upon hearing this, Ye Zhi finally spoke up, angrily saying, "You’re not allowed to come in!"
