Chapter 584 - 576: His Warmth (Nine)

Chapter 584 - 576: His Warmth (Nine)

His gaze inadvertently swept past another elevator entrance, and he caught sight of something that made his brows furrow as he looked again.

A set of car keys.

He strode over, bent down to pick up the keys, and gave them a careful look. Freeing one hand, he fished out his cellphone from his pocket and dialed Ji Anning’s number.

The call connected, but no one answered, until a recorded voice informed him that the number he dialed was temporarily unavailable.

The elevator arrived just in time, and he hurriedly stepped inside.

"Mr. Ji, what happened?" Korea glanced at the car keys in Ji Chicheng’s hand and asked, trying to guess what might have happened.

"Nothing much," Ji Chicheng responded to Korea with a tone that was neither cold nor warm.

The high-speed elevator quickly reached the ground floor, and he walked briskly out of the elevator and out of the building’s main entrance.

It was now late at night and very cold outside. His coat was draped over Fenfen, and he was wearing only a thin shirt. The moment he stepped outside, a shiver ran through him.

He hugged Fenfen tightly and walked quickly to the parking lot, pressed the car key in his hand, and saw the lights of the car blink. He walked over to it.

He checked inside the car; no one was there.

He looked around urgently, but still did not see the familiar figure he was searching for.

Picking up his phone again, he dialed Ji Anning’s number, faintly hearing the familiar ringtone nearby.

He looked around and saw something shining on the passenger seat inside the car.

That was... her phone.

This girl!

Where on earth had she run off to, leaving both her car keys and her phone behind?

Ji Chicheng looked around anxiously, still unable to see Ji Anning. Finally, he opened the rear car door and put Fenfen into the safety seat.

Then he opened the driver’s side door, got into the car while waving to Korea who stood nearby, "I’m off first."

Once in the car, he immediately started it.

Ji Chicheng hadn’t reached home when a heavy rain began to pour down, parking the car against the steps at the front door and wrapping Fenfen from head to toe with his suit jacket as he carried her inside the house.

The lights were on in the living room and the sound of the TV could be heard.

Ji Chicheng breathed a sigh of relief, put Fenfen down, and peeked inside.

However, sitting on the sofa was not Ji Anning but the housekeeper.

"Mr. Ji, you’re back," said the housekeeper, hearing their arrival. Rising to greet them at the door, she added, "The rain is so heavy, and with you bringing Fenfen, I couldn’t help but wait here watching TV."

"Where’s Ji Anning?" Ji Chicheng asked, frowning.

He was becoming aware that Ji Anning might not have come back yet. Looking down at the shoe cabinet, he noticed that her usual pair of shoes was missing,

he became more certain.

Without waiting for the housekeeper to reply, he immediately turned around, braved the pouring rain, and got back into the car, starting it once again.

...

In the torrential downpour, Ji Anning didn’t seek shelter or avoid the rain, allowing the ice-cold water to soak her thoroughly.

There weren’t many cars on the wide road, though the streetlights were very bright.

Dragging her weary steps, unsure how long she had been walking or how much longer it would take to get home,

she wondered if he was awake by now, what he and his current partner were doing with Fenfen.

’Boom’

Suddenly, a sports car whizzed by her with a ’boom,’ startling her and interrupting her thoughts.

Coming to her senses, she raised her hands and vehemently struck her head, "Why, why?"

Why, under such a torrential rain, was she still not clear-headed, still lost in wild thoughts? He had already found a woman who matched him, already started his new life.
