Chapter 569 - 561: Confronting Charles Head-On (Part 5)
"You don’t believe I would kill you?" Charles’s eyes emitted a chilling light, his white teeth clenched fiercely.
Ji Anning held her breath, her heart seemingly about to leap out with a ’thump thump’.
She stared with wide eyes, her face pale, daring not to make a sound, daring not to make any rash moves.
Having been acquainted with Charles for two years, she wouldn’t say she knew him well, but at least she understood him about fifty percent. He was a man of strong opinions.
Moody as he was, one second he was the grace of a noble gentleman, the next he could be a demon brimming with menace.
Like a king of a dark hell, brooking no questioning or defiance.
Now, as he pointed a gun at Ji Chicheng, it certainly wasn’t just to scare him; he was angry, he truly had murder in his heart.
However, in such situations, those who faced him often showed weakness, but their outcomes were not much better.
Yet, she had witnessed it once only, before Fenfen was born. While strolling, she had inadvertently wandered into Charles’s backyard, a prohibited area, and saw with her own eyes how Charles shot and crippled a servant who had intruded.
Since then, she never dared to step half a step into that area. Since then, she had chosen to keep her distance from him, and her understanding of him was also based on what others told her, which she then evaluated.
But in these two years at Charles’s home, his care for her was indisputable, especially for Fenfen.
’Tsk’
After a long silence, Ji Chicheng finally spoke, scoffing coldly. He leisurely turned his head as his skin brushed against the muzzle of Charles’s gun, until it was aimed directly at his forehead. His dark eyes glinting fiercely, he said haltingly, "I don’t believe you would kill me, you... don’t dare."
Having said that, he curved his lips into a chillingly beautiful smile, his shoulders trembling.
Laughing softly, he slowly straightened up, his tall frame erect. His hands were still fixed on the lapels of his suit, leisurely adjusting them.
Ji Anning felt her heart really might leap out. Was this guy drunk? Was he really not afraid at all?
"Uncle," she hurriedly put Fenfen on a chair, rushed over, reached out and pulled Ji Chicheng’s arm, shielding him as she shook her head pleadingly at Charles, "Mr. Charles, thank you for the dinner. My uncle has had a bit too much to drink."
Ji Chicheng was furious.
His eyes hadn’t even blinked when the gun was aimed at him, and now this foolish girl was apologizing for him, trying to make excuses for him.
What was he to say?
Was this really his daughter’s mother?
Forget it, he’s done playing their game. A bit tipsy, Ji Chicheng was annoyed by Ji Anning stepping in like that, so he simply turned around, picked up Fenfen, and left decisively.
Watching Ji Chicheng walk away, out of the private room, Ji Anning finally let out a sigh of relief and plonked herself onto a nearby chair.
Sweat beaded like pearls on her forehead, which she wiped off with the back of her hand.
It was a while before Charles withdrew his gaze from the door, also putting the gun away. He lifted his eyelids to look at the still somewhat pale Ji Anning and said coldly, "His temper is too stubborn, you’d better advise him."
Ji Anning frowned, "Mr. Charles, we had an agreement, as long as I bring Fenfen back to the Charles’s house."
From his actions toward Ji Chicheng tonight, the tone of his speech, and the words he had just reminded her, she felt that his current purposes were now not simply about having Fenfen bear the Charles name.
