Chapter 558 - 550: Thawing Relations (Part 9)

She didn’t leave the room again; instead, she grabbed a book and sat on the balcony, but her heart wasn’t in it. Her attention was entirely on the white luxury sedan parked in the courtyard.

Yesterday, a red BMW, today a white one, changing cars every day—was she flaunting her wealth?

"Mommy."

Ji Anning was grumbling to herself when Fenfen woke up and called out to her from the room.

"Coming."

She responded and quickly gathered her thoughts, retracted her gaze, closed the book she was holding, and got up to enter the room.

Fenfen sat on the bed, rubbing her eyes, still sleepy.

Ji Anning walked over, bent down to pick her up, and headed to the bathroom, "Let’s use the toilet, then brush our teeth, okay?"

Men are all the same, forsaking righteousness at the sight of beauty, forsaking even their child. Last night, he sternly took Fenfen away to the restaurant; when they returned, she was so unconscious with sleep. Why didn’t he take Fenfen to sleep in his room? Why did she have to be in her room?

As Fenfen sat on the toilet, Ji Anning watched her and couldn’t help but bitterly criticize Ji Chicheng in her heart.

She herself didn’t eat breakfast, starving herself was no issue, but she couldn’t let Fenfen starve along with her, so she had no choice but to go downstairs.

After washing up Fenfen, Ji Anning carried her downstairs, having changed her into a matching mother-daughter pajama set, pink with large flowers.

She had also just showered, applied some skincare, her cheeks pink and moist, hair flowing loosely. Together with Fenfen, they looked more like sisters than mother and daughter.

When they reached the staircase, Ji Anning glanced around the spacious living room. The television was already off, and the woman who had been on the couch was nowhere to be seen now.

She couldn’t help turning back to look at Ji Chicheng’s closed bedroom door, and she snorted.

She thought it was better that they hid away in the room, as she and Fenfen could enjoy breakfast more comfortably on their own.

"Miss Anning, you’re up."

Downstairs, they met the housekeeper coming out of the dining room, an apron over her clothes, greeting her with a cheerful smile.

Ji Anning returned a somewhat disingenuous smile, "Good morning, Auntie."

"Morning." The housekeeper nodded, her gaze then shifting to Fenfen, her smile growing more indulgent, "Fenfen, ready for some milk?"

Fenfen nodded, "Yes."

Ji Anning glanced at the dining room entrance and then asked the housekeeper, "Is Mr. Ji in the dining room?"

The housekeeper nodded, "Yes, he wanted Fenfen to sleep a bit longer, so he didn’t call you guys. He ate earlier by himself."

"Ha!" Ji Anning scoffed coldly, her laughter tinged with acidity.

Who knew if he wanted Fenfen to sleep a little longer or if he wanted a private moment with that woman.

Not right!

Why was she feeling so bitter? Why so petty?

She left him heartlessly; did that not allow him to find someone else?

People... truly are of base nature, not caring for what they have, discarding it, tormenting him into battered submission, and now, just as he was finally accepting someone else, it troubled her heart again.

Ji Anning hooked her lips in self-mockery, adjusted her attitude, and holding Fenfen, walked toward the dining room.

"This place is very quiet, the environment is very good, it’s suitable for me to find inspiration, I’ve decided. During my time in N City, I’ll stay here."

Ji Anning had just reached the entrance to the dining room when a familiar female voice came from inside.

Startled, her steps halted, eyes shifting in alarm. Her complexion turned pale in an instant; realizing the situation, she quickly turned to flee.
