Chapter 542 - 534: Jealousy (Thirteen)
Hearing Korea’s goodbye, Fenfen pouted unhappily, "Miss... auntie."
Korea smiled, stretched out her hand to gently pat Fenfen’s head, and patiently soothed her, "Auntie will miss you too. One day, when auntie goes to your daddy’s company, she’ll bring you a Magic Princess."
Only then did Fenfen’s face light up with a smile, nodding vigorously, "Mm-hmm."
"I’ve taken enough of your time. I wish you a speedy recovery." Korea stood up, greeted Ji Anning, then turned around and when her gaze swept over the auntie, she politely nodded to her as well.
Watching her graceful figure leave the sickroom and disappear from view, Ji Anning frowned, deep in thought.
"Mummy."
Fenfen whispered into Ji Anning’s ear. If Ji Anning didn’t respond, she just kept calling.
Finally, her thoughts were interrupted by Fenfen. Ji Anning shifted her gaze from the doorway and smiled at Fenfen, "Is that auntie a friend of your daddy’s?"
"Auntie." Fenfen, unable to speak, replied with a familiar word from Ji Anning’s question.
Ji Anning tried a different approach, "Did you see her in daddy’s office?"
"Saw." Fenfen nodded, her little hand clutching Ji Anning’s collar, pulling and biting it.
Ji Anning again felt that Fenfen’s answer couldn’t be relied upon because how would she know what an office is?
For the first time, she felt a headache from trying to communicate with the little girl. After thinking for a moment, she asked, "Is auntie nice?"
After asking, she thought this question was simple and shouldn’t pose any problem for the little girl.
Fenfen nodded, "Nice."
Ji Anning frowned, unsatisfied with Fenfen’s answer from the bottom of her heart. She pressed on, "Who’s nicer, auntie or mummy?"
Without any hesitation, Fenfen replied, "Mummy nicer."
Now, Ji Anning’s heart finally felt some relief. Seeing how close and fond Fenfen was of Korea earlier had really bothered her.
Ji Chicheng’s footsteps paused at the door as he listened to the conversation between mother and daughter, his lips curving into a spontaneous smile.
’Is that auntie a friend of your daddy’s?’
’Did you see her in daddy’s office?’
’Is auntie nice?’
’Who’s nicer, auntie or mummy?’
Ji Anning, do you care?
If you don’t care, why ask these questions, why probe these matters?
Ji Chicheng’s gaze again deeply fell on Ji Anning, who was leaning against the bed, observing her bright almond eyes, yet unable to see through her, to truly understand her.
What does she want? What is she planning to do? What is she hiding?
What to do, his heart stirred again, feeling the urge to investigate whether she had any reasons...
Suddenly, the smartphone he was holding rang again. He quickly stepped back, retreating quite a distance before he answered.
"What’s up?"
"I’ve already checked, and it’s got nothing to do with her."
Ji Anning heard the familiar ringtone, but then it stopped abruptly, and the figure was gone. She frowned, puzzled, and looked toward the doorway.
The door was open, but she didn’t see Ji Chicheng’s figure. She frowned and muttered to herself, wondering if she had heard wrong.
"Miss Anning, Mr. Ji has arrived; I just ran into him in the elevator," said the auntie, having just gone down to buy fruits.
She entered carrying the fruits and spoke to Ji Anning while walking.
"Uh..." Ji Anning pursed her lips.
So it wasn’t her imagination after all, it really was his ringtone. Probably he hadn’t come in because he had gone to answer a call.
As she was pondering, the man’s tall figure entered, one hand holding a smartphone, the other tucked into his neatly tailored trousers.
