Chapter 483 - 475: A Kiss for a Million (18)

"Mr. Charles left yesterday," replied the nanny, "and said he wouldn’t be back for three days."

"Got it," Ji Anning nodded.

Suddenly remembering something, the nanny added, "Oh, Mr. Charles asked me to tell you that he needs your help to receive a guest who is coming from far away the day after tomorrow."

This was a common occurrence, so Ji Anning, upon hearing this, didn’t think much of it and simply nodded, "Okay."

A house like a palace, if toured on foot, would take half a day to see completely.

The car circled the fountain and slowly drove out of the mansion’s grand gates, which closed automatically after the car had exited.

The stretch Lincoln was spacious and comfortable.

Ji Anning reached out to open the refrigerator, took out a bottle of mineral water, twisted off the cap, and took a sip.

Then she looked at the middle-aged man sitting in front of her, "Where is this guest coming from?"

"He’s an old friend of the master from China," the middle-aged man replied.

China... Even though she dared not and did not want to return to that place, hearing those two words still made Ji Anning feel a sense of closeness.

The car stopped in front of a luxurious hotel.

The valet came over to open the car door for her, Ji Anning stepped out first, her burgundy patent leather high heels accentuating the whiteness of her delicate feet.

Then she straightened up slowly, a gust of wind tousling her long hair vertically, which she brushed aside with her hand.

"Miss, let’s go in," said the secretary.

The secretary led the way as she entered the opulent lobby, where her high heels echoed ’clack, clack’ on the floor, each click resounding with confidence.

"Chairman?"

Ji Zhengdao quickened his steps into the hotel lobby, frowning and peering toward the elevator.

Seeing this, the assistant next to him asked out of curiosity.

But the old man’s gaze wasn’t quick enough; he only caught a glimpse of the elevator doors closing. Yet, he continued to frown, puzzled as he stared at the now closed elevator doors, "Did I see things?"

He murmured to himself.

Hearing this, the assistant also curiously followed his gaze, "What happened?"

"I thought I saw Anning," Ji Zhengdao said as he turned his head to look at the assistant.

The assistant was surprised, "Miss Anning? Why would she be here?"

The old man shook his head, "Maybe my eyes deceived me," he said, sighing in disappointment.

The assistant comforted him, "Even though we haven’t heard from Miss Anning for two years, judging by her current state, she must have been doing well these past years. We just overlooked that she might change her name, so we couldn’t find her."

"Yes," the old man nodded, speaking thoughtfully, "This girl has always been tough, it’s just unfortunate circumstances that delayed her."

"A true diamond will shine wherever it is, and Miss Anning is just that."

Ji Zhengdao and the assistant continued to chat about Ji Anning as they walked along.

Throughout the conversation, each sentence Ji Zhengdao uttered was tinged with guilt.

...

The hotel was located in the center of the city, and Ji Anning stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out at the city’s nightscape.

This height was nowhere near that of the apartment Ji Chicheng once had in Hai City.

So, whenever he stood at such heights, looking down at everything, did he also feel as she did now, equally lonely, equally desolate and empty?

The same longing.

"Miss, the guest has arrived," said the secretary, walking up behind Ji Anning, softly interrupting her thoughts. She shifted her gaze and nodded, murmuring an acknowledgment.
