Chapter 450 - 442 Transformation (Part 5)
She was wearing a long white down coat, with the hood up against the strong wind. The hood’s edge, lined with soft fur, was being blown to brush against her cheeks.
She didn’t reach up to move it, dragging her suitcase with one hand and the other tucked into her down coat pocket as she walked towards the school gate.
The campus always stirred a myriad of thoughts, some pleasant, some troubling.
Ji Anning walked with her head down.
Suddenly, a basketball bounced in front of her, and she instinctively stepped on it to stop it. Just as she was about to look in the direction from which the ball had come, a male student called out to her, "Hey, beauty, could you throw the ball back to us?"
Ji Anning looked over to see several male students playing basketball on the outdoor court behind the male dormitory building.
When they saw Ji Anning’s face, the group of boys stirred, exclaiming, "It’s the beauty queen from the Fine Arts College."
"You’re better off controlling the ball. I’ll come over and pick it up."
The boy who had asked her to throw the ball back ran eagerly towards Ji Anning, his face wearing what could only be described as... a sleazy smile.
His eyes fixed on Ji Anning, "Ji Anning, are you going home now?"
Ji Anning felt that it wouldn’t be nice not to respond, so she simply uttered an ’Oh’ without expression and lifted her foot off the ball as the boy approached.
Then she resumed walking.
"She’s just as proud as the legends say."
"She’s the future lady of Hai City’s number one family. Of course, she wouldn’t bother with a commoner like you."
"Isn’t she just a chicken who got lucky and became a phoenix?"
Behind her, Ji Anning listened to the boys’ discussion and thought, it turns out men also harbor jealousy and a sense of unfairness, not only women.
Turning into a phoenix after flying onto a branch... but was she really a chicken that became a phoenix, or was it the other way around?
Ji Anning smirked at herself, but her mood wasn’t affected, and a hint of amusement lingered at the corners of her mouth.
"Chicheng?"
Ji Chicheng looked up, just in time to catch the glimpse of Ji Anning’s previous smile.
He paused, and Ji Ming Yue, who was talking to him, didn’t get a response for a while. She lifted her head only to find him gazing blankly ahead.
"What are you looking at?" asked Ming Yue curiously, following Ji Chicheng’s gaze to spot Ji Anning. She frowned, "Chicheng, why are you staring at your nephew’s wife like that?"
Ji Chicheng rolled his eyes at her, "What’s it to you?"
Ming Yue said, "Of course, it concerns me. I’m starting to suspect you of ogling your nephew’s wife."
Ji Chicheng didn’t pay any further attention to Ming Yue. He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked at a normal pace towards the school parking lot.
This was his last visit to T University, to collect his belongings.
"Sigh!"
With a multitude of thoughts, Ji Anning felt a bit tired. She let out a light sigh, lifted her head, and the tall figure of the man was already in front of her.
Her pupils dilated slightly, her gaze instinctively lingering on the man’s cold, handsome face for a second or two.
Realizing this, she quickly looked away, resumed her pace, and brushed past him.
He didn’t look at her, from start to finish, not even giving her a glance. The only thing he left her with was a whiff of a faint scent as they brushed past each other.
Ji Anning’s heart twinged with pain, but she didn’t look back. Keeping her pace calm, she steadily increased the distance between them.
