Chapter 432 - 426: A Huge Joke (Part 3)

...

Ji Anning returned to her room, where she dry heaved over the toilet but didn’t throw up anything else.

Standing in front of the wash basin, she splashed her face with cold water, her hands pressing on the edge of the sink, her worried eyes staring at her drenched face in the mirror.

That nauseating feeling was so familiar, so similar to the last time.

As Ji Anning was thinking, a familiar male voice suddenly came from the bathroom doorway, "How long has it been since your last period?"

Her heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively turned to look.

Stunned, she suppressed the panic in her heart and replied with a cold laugh, "Don’t worry, uncle, it’s not what you think. My periods are very regular."

"You have a thirty-five day cycle, and according to the timing of your last one, you’re overdue," Ji Chicheng said as he walked toward Ji Anning. "You haven’t gotten it, let’s go to the hospital."

As he spoke, he reached out, grabbed Ji Anning’s wrist, and effortlessly dragged her out of the bathroom.

"Let go," Ji Anning resisted, unable to break free from his strong grip, so desperate that she bit down near the wrist on the back of his hand.

She bit down hard, very hard.

Ji Chicheng didn’t move at all, letting Ji Anning bite without even a grunt, his hand still tightly gripping her wrist.

Finally, after tasting the blood, Ji Anning let go.

On Ji Chicheng’s pale back of the hand, the two rows of now bloody indentations stung Ji Anning’s eyes.

She lifted her face to look at Ji Chicheng, tears shining in her eyes, yet her expression was stubborn and icy, "Don’t say it’s not what you think, even if it were, I wouldn’t keep it."

The cold words not only pierced Ji Chicheng’s heart like a sword but also left her own heart bleeding profusely.

"You wouldn’t dare!" Ji Chicheng gritted his teeth, closing in on Ji Anning, his tall frame slightly trembling, the chilling aura forced Ji Anning to avert her gaze.

Turning away, she dodged his piercing dark eyes that seemed to see everything.

Her eyelashes, like butterfly wings, trembled slightly at the roots, wetted by either water or tears, Ji Chicheng observed suspiciously, narrowing his eyes, "Anning, is there something I don’t know?"

His tone involuntarily carried a tinge of heartache.

Ji Chicheng’s probing gaze forced Ji Anning not to hesitate even for a second, and she shook her head resolutely, "No."

Her answer was crisp and she looked directly into his discerning eyes without revealing any flaws.

But Ji Chicheng was still somewhat skeptical, he said, "I might not be attentive enough to notice everything, but you can tell me."

"What should I say? Does saying it change anything... Does it change how Danning feels about you?" Ji Anning looked at Ji Chicheng sarcastically, "I want a position out in the open, one that is upright and envied and blessed by everyone, not cursed at."

With each word she spoke, it felt as if a blade was being gouged into her own heart.

Yet, she had to endure the pain and continue playing the role of the cold-hearted one, "You don’t think about these things, but I do. That’s the main reason I’ve been afraid to make our relationship public. I fear being cursed at, unable to raise my head in front of the public, losing Danning as a friend, afraid that what I gain from being with you won’t be worth the loss."

Toward the end, her voice uncontrollably choked up.

The tears she had been holding back were already a disaster inside her heart.
