Chapter 411 - 405: Choice (Part Two)
After finishing his words, he lifted his foot and coldly walked past Yang Danning.
He opened the door and entered the room.
Yang Danning’s eyes, blurry with tears, watched as the door closed again, and suddenly the corners of her mouth hooked up into a sinister smile.
...
The snow had been falling for several days, large and small flakes, without any pause.
The weather had been gloomy throughout.
Ji Anning wore the white down jacket bought for her by Ji Chicheng, with two little ears on the hood. She stood in the snowfield with it on her head, looking like an adorable snowman.
She gazed at the snowflakes drifting down from the sky, her nose and the corners of her eyes turned red by the cold wind, the snowflakes melting quickly as they landed in her eyes, moistening them.
They had agreed to go back when the snow stopped, but this year, city C had faced a snow disaster that only occurred once in decades.
Uncle, look, even the heavens seem to want to stop us from being together.
On the corridor, a man with his hands in the pockets of his white lab coat and a pair of clear eyes behind his glasses stared at the girl amidst the swirling snowflakes, looking at the tragic beauty of her smile. He sighed helplessly.
Alas!
What’s caused you so much sorrow, so much pain?
He did not intend to disturb her, but his cellphone in his pocket twanged, heedless of the moment. Xiang Yiqing took his gaze off Ji Anning, took out the phone, saw the caller ID, and smiled.
He answered the call and put it to his ear, "Have you arrived?"
"Don’t rush, drive slowly. She’s here, and I’ll watch over her for you. No one’s going to steal your girl."
Having said that, he glanced again in the direction where Ji Anning had stood just before and noticed she was gone.
He searched around subconsciously, finding her charming white figure at another entrance to the corridor, flashing by his sight. The corners of his mouth involuntarily lifted, "She’s wearing a white down jacket today, a bit childish."
"Your whole family is childish."
After hearing this very feminine retort, Xiang Yiqing had not recovered when another ’beep beep’ busy tone came through the phone.
’Hey!’
He looked at the phone screen, frowned in dissatisfaction, and eventually resigned himself to put the phone away with a helpless expression.
He shook his head, amused, and was just about to head in the direction where Ji Anning had disappeared when suddenly Ji Anning’s voice came from ahead.
"Doctor Xiang, my mom made chive pockets, do you want to try some?"
Xiang Yiqing lifted his head to look over, and Ji Anning came around the corner of the corridor, holding a thermos box, smiling faintly as she walked towards him.
Her eyes were still a bit red, her smile not quite reaching them.
She looked naturally pitiful, not to elicit anyone’s sympathy or pity, yet it made one involuntarily feel distressed for her.
"Did something happen that Chicheng doesn’t know about?"
He couldn’t help himself and asked, not to satisfy his own curiosity, but because he truly wanted to share some of her burden.
Even if it was something he couldn’t help with, being a listener might provide some comfort.
The smile on Ji Anning’s face stiffened as she looked into Xiang Yiqing’s clear and bright eyes. The shallow smile in her eyes slowly faded away.
"Nothing," she said softly, shaking her head. She resumed walking and reached in front of Xiang Yiqing, extending the box to him, "It’s still warm."
Xiang Yiqing looked down slightly, his gaze deeply fixed on her for a while, then with pursed lips, he nodded, "Okay."
He took the box from her, opened it, and the aroma of food wafted out. His slender fingers picked up the topmost chive pocket, lifted it, and took a bite.
He then turned his gaze towards Ji Anning, "Chicheng is on his way here and will arrive in a moment."
At this, Ji Anning startled, her eyes glittering with tears, showing a complicated expression resembling panic and confusion.
Xiang Yiqing observed her reaction silently and took another bite of the pancake without a word.
After a while, Ji Anning nodded lightly, "I see, thank you."
With a word of thanks, she turned and walked back.
