Chapter 396 - 390: Fate Plays with People Like This (Part 5)

He turned to look at the old master and nodded at him.

Yet in his heart, he harbored immense hatred. In what way was he inferior to Ji Chicheng?

Although his mother’s background was not notable, he was, after all, born of the legitimate wife, yet they claimed he was inferior to a bastard.

Ji Jingfeng thought to himself and vowed bitterly in his heart that once he truly wielded great power, he would make those who had looked down on him deeply regret it.

...

Ji Jingfeng insisted on staying in the hospital to accompany the old master, but the old master appointed Ji Chicheng.

He had to leave unwillingly.

"I’m at the hospital, come straight here after you land."

Once the plane landed, Ji Anning switched on her phone and immediately received a text from Ji Chicheng, asking her to go to the hospital.

She didn’t hurry to reply to Ji Chicheng. Holding her phone, she frowned and looked out the window, wistfully regarding the areas beyond the runway, some of which were covered in snow.

Given Danning’s temperament, Grandpa must already know about her relationship with her uncle. How was she to face the old man now?

Alas!

With a complicated sigh, she shifted her gaze and replied to Ji Chicheng: "Uncle, Grandpa already knows about our relationship, right? Is his hospitalization this time related to us?"

The old man used to undergo a comprehensive health check twice every year, and his body had always been robust, far removed from any serious conditions.

His sudden unconsciousness must have been caused by their affair.

As Ji Anning was lost in her thoughts, her phone rang; it was Ji Chicheng. She answered and held the phone to her ear, "Uncle."

"Where are you now?"

Ji Chicheng’s voice sounded somewhat weary.

Ji Anning responded, "I just landed in the taxiway."

"Have Qi Helian bring you directly to the hospital. The old man has long known, and you have to face it sooner or later."

Ji Chicheng’s words left Ji Anning unable to find a rebuttal, with no reason to hide any longer. She nodded and murmured, "Oh."

Her voice was very low, lacking confidence.

She wanted to say goodbye but then heard Ji Chicheng say, "I’m here, you don’t need to carry any burdens."

His tone, though subdued, gave her a tremendous sense of security. She smiled slightly, now sounding much surer, "I know."

"I’ve always been curious as to what your uncle, who walks with his nose in the air, is like when he talks about love. What sort of romantic words would he say?"

Ji Anning hung up the phone, and Qi Helian suddenly spoke up from next to her.

He leaned sideways, looking at Ji Anning with a very interested expression.

"Er..." Ji Anning was not shy, but pretended to think before saying, "He remains expressionless, whatever he says, maintaining his cool demeanor."

"I guessed as much," Qi Helian said with a smile, nodding. It seemed he had finally found someone who shared his view, "Just like when he orders me around, he also behaves as if he’s an emperor, with all the righteousness in the world."

Ji Anning, feigning surprise, responded, "Then my uncle is truly formidable, even able to order around Master Qi like you."

"You little girl, daring to tease me," Qi Helian stretched out a hand, feigning a gesture to flick her forehead.

Ji Anning shrank her neck, playfully begging for mercy, "I dare not, I dare not."

Throughout their journey together, they had become acquainted, and Ji Anning no longer had the initial fear and reservation in touching Qi Helian.

By the time they reached the hospital, dusk had fallen.

The quiet corridor outside the special care ward made Ji Anning nervous. She walked up to the door of the ward and held her breath, her hand trembling as she reached out several times, yet she lacked the courage to knock.

Suddenly, the door opened.

The faces of Lin Yanqin’s family appeared all at once before her eyes.
