Chapter 380 - 374: The Little Boat of Friendship (Part Three)

Joining in on the fun?

He was actually joining in on the excitement, how novel.

Joining in the fun generally meant a gathering with many people, and Ji Anning was extremely curious. This was the first time she and Ji Chicheng had appeared in public together, and deep inside, she felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness.

They were now in a foreign land. They shouldn’t encounter any acquaintances, right?

"Aren’t you getting out?"

While Ji Anning was pondering, Ji Chicheng had already walked around to her side and opened the car door for her.

"Oh," Ji Anning was a bit out of sync, nodded, hesitated for a moment before she grabbed the coat beside her and got out of the car.

Her cocktail dress reached just below her knees. She managed the hem of the dress, and as she extended her leg to get out, she accidentally exposed her thigh.

The parking attendant was right beside them, and Ji Chicheng frowned displeasedly, bent down to grasp her arm, and pulled her up.

He snatched the coat from her hands, shook it out, and draped it over her shoulders in one smooth motion.

Then he took her hand and led her towards the hotel’s revolving door.

This was her first trip abroad, and as she stood in the splendid hotel lobby, facing receptionists of a different ethnicity, Ji Anning felt a bit intimidated, being led by Ji Chicheng like a child.

The heels of her shoes, less than two inches high, clicked ’tick tick’ on the marble floor, making a noticeable sound. She tried to walk as lightly as possible.

She glanced around from the corner of her eye.

Ji Chicheng sensed her nervousness and tightened his grip on her sweaty hand, pulling her closer to him.

Feeling his presence, Ji Anning’s heart settled down significantly. They reached the elevator, and it arrived just in time.

A group of foreigners exited, conversing as they walked. Ji Anning had only seen such scenes on TV. She had once fantasized that one day she would become a member of the societal elite, discussing animatedly in English just like them.

The dreams of her childhood were so rich, akin to a monkey descending the mountain.

Now, recalling those dreams she once harbored in her heart, Ji Anning found it amusing and couldn’t stop shaking her head.

’Ding’

The elevator arrived at their floor, and Ji Chicheng glanced again at Ji Anning, catching the trace of a smile still lingering at the corner of her eye. With interest, he arched an eyebrow at her, "What are you thinking about?"

Ji Anning replied offhandedly, "Thinking about you."

She tilted up her little face, smiling with her eyes curved into crescents, her smile tinged with a hint of mischief.

Ji Chicheng halted in his tracks, turned around, and looked at Ji Anning with a dangerous glint in his eyes, "Are you flirting with me?"

Ji Anning quickly shook her head in denial, "No."

Seeing her shrinking her neck like she was pleading for mercy, Ji Chicheng stopped teasing her and continued walking.

He wasn’t fond of flirting in public places, anyway.

Ji Anning had imagined that they might be going to a posh dinner party, but she never expected Ji Chicheng to bring her to such a lively event. The vast banquet hall was bright with lights everywhere, and people gathered in small groups, sipping drinks and chatting.

Everyone present seemed to shimmer with stardom.

"Uncle Ji, what event is this?" Ji Anning asked while looking up at Ji Chicheng.

Ji Chicheng’s gaze was fixed on something. His brows slightly furrowed, his dark eyes unfathomable. Ji Anning didn’t know what he was thinking. Just as she was about to follow his gaze, Ji Chicheng suddenly turned his attention back to her.

"Ji Anning, what place do I have in your heart?"

He stared into Ji Anning’s bright eyes, very seriously, very earnestly.

"Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
