Chapter 356 - 350: Falling Asleep at a Disagreement (Part 4)

The "mother-in-law" who had treated her like a daughter since childhood.

To Yang Danning, she had to apologize as well, but there was no guilt, only deep regret for having fallen for the same man as her.

She had tried hard, struggled, and attempted to yield, but this man was like a poppy, laced with an addictive poison.

Once touched by it, one would be unwilling to give it up, even if it meant irredeemable ruin.

Ji Jingfeng had been railing all by himself until now, but Ji Anning hadn’t responded even once, which he felt was not satisfying at all, nor did it quench his anger.

"Ji Anning, since childhood, you’ve always put on this pitiful act in front of others, as if you were the victim, almost garnering all of my mom’s love for yourself. I’ve only just realized how cunning you really are."

Tears were about to spill from Ji Anning’s eyes, not because Ji Jingfeng’s unjust accusations made her feel wronged, but rather his words reminded her of the bits and pieces of tenderness Yang Yufang had shown her over the years.

Whenever she made a mistake, or was framed by them, her mother, though she had little influence and couldn’t defend her, would always stay by her side when she was punished.

If she couldn’t eat or drink, her mother would also fast with her; when she was sick and feverish, her mother was always there, never leaving her side to take care of her.

She often cried out of self-reproach for not being able to provide her with more.

It was then that Ji Anning realized that what had always prevented her from crossing her moral boundaries wasn’t the old master, nor Yang Danning, but the ’mother-in-law’ who had treated her like her own daughter and to whom she owed a mountain of gratitude.

How... could she face her?

"What are you so engrossed in talking about?"

Suddenly, Ji Chicheng’s voice came from the direction of the dining room, startling both Ji Anning and Ji Jingfeng, as they both turned to look over in unison.

Ji Chicheng and the old master walked out of the dining room side by side, heading towards where they were.

Looking anxiously at Ji Jingfeng, Ji Anning saw that he had been somewhat agitated just now. She feared that in his agitation, he would throw caution to the winds and reveal her relationship with Ji Chicheng.

A cold light flashed in Ji Jingfeng’s eyes as he saw Ji Chicheng, filled with hatred.

He also glared at Ji Anning beside him, and as the old master approached, he suddenly reached out to grab Ji Anning’s arm, pulling her close and wrapping an arm around her waist.

He then looked at the old master and said, "We were discussing what to bring to the island, after all, Anning will be staying there for a few days."

The old master’s gaze swept coldly over Ji Jingfeng’s face, paying him no attention, and turned his eyes toward Ji Anning, his expression softening. "Anning, the wind is strong on the island, dress warmly," he said softly.

"Mm-hmm," Ji Anning nodded lightly and pointed to the suitcase beside her, saying, "I’ve packed warm clothes."

She dared not meet the old master’s keen eyes, nor could she look at Ji Chicheng beside him, fearing that a single look might give her away.

Ji Zhengdao nodded, "In a couple of days, I’ll send someone to pick you up."

Ji Anning pursed her lips and remained silent.

"I’ll walk you to the door."

Without saying much else, the old master turned and walked towards the door.

Only after he passed by Ji Anning’s side and turned his back to her did she breathe a sigh of relief.

But Jingfeng’s arm was still wrapped around her waist.

"Are you also planning to see us out, Uncle?" asked Ji Jingfeng, his smile insincere as he looked at Ji Chicheng standing in front of them, his gaze cold.

Finding a sense of revenge at last, he felt utterly thrilled inside.

He thought to himself, if you disgust me, I’ll disgust you in return.
