Evelyn looked up at me with wide eyes and a look of surprise that flashed past her face for a fleeting moment.
I slowly walked towards her, step by step. A smirk was plastered across my face as I looked down at her and we locked eyes. There was a frown etched onto her face, resting between her brows, forming a deep crease on her forehead.
"Surprised to see me?" I taunted, breaking the silence that stretched between us as she struggled to find the words to say. "Wonder how I know about your little rendezvous?" I mused, each word that left my lips dripping with venom as I looked at her with an amused smile lingering on my lips.
She whipped her head around in an instant, turning to look at Xavier with disbelief written all over her face.
"Xavier, what the hell is going on? Why is she here?" She questioned frantically as her eyes darted around,
I let a smile grace my lips. "But thanks to you," I continued, cutting her off before she could finish her sentence, my eyes twinkling with amusement as I stared at her. "We got your confession broadcasted on live television, it’s over for you now," I said as a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips.
I watched as her demeanour shifted almost entirely in the next second, the anger on her face quickly faded and was replaced with panic and anxiety that washed over her.
"Live television?" She repeated with wide eyes as she stumbled back a couple of steps in pure shock. Her eyes darted around anxiously. "You must be joking right? Right? Tell me you are joking."
I watched as she turned to look at the crowd of reporters that gathered around us with helplessness in her eyes. She was all alone this time, her parents weren’t here to help her or save her anymore.
"My dad didn’t bribe anyone!" She quickly exclaimed, retracting her previous statement when I didn’t say another word. "I was just joking, I didn’t actually mean it! It was a joke!" She declared, letting out a laugh, the nervous kind of laughter that echoed in the night.
Amidst the chaos that unfolded, neither of them noticed that the police had arrived until someone shouted, the unfamiliar voice caught their attention.
"The police are here!"
On instinct, everyone snapped their head around, their eyes swept across the area, a look of anticipation hung on their faces. The crowd parted like the red sea, allowing the police to march straight to Evelyn, closing the distance between them in a few large strides.
"Are you Evelyn Lloyd?" The police officer asked with a serious expression that masked his features and an intimidating look in his eyes.
She nodded lighty, muttering a soft "yes" under her breath.
"Evelyn Lloyd, you are under arrest for bribery."
