Chapter 220: His Voice, the Game Invitation
Chapter 220: His Voice, the Game Invitation
In the time that passed, she hadn’t stopped watching Sin’s gameplay footage.
From those clips, she finally saw—through Sin’s perspective—how he carried out every single move in that game.
To be honest, after shedding the crushing pressure of actually being in the game, that sense of shock and admiration really made her respect him.
After watching from start to finish, she realized that behind every crazy move he made, there was always some plan or scheme.
As someone who experienced it firsthand, seeing the game end without any unexpected reactions and not turning into a mess like Chiyo Eine predicted, she knew—Sin had won again.
Sin had won. Again!
She seemed to have gotten used to it all, to the point of feeling numb—even when he switched out the Beacon in his body multiple times, and even guarded against her at the end.
But what mattered most was that she understood Sin’s power.
When his mask fused with his face, his strength clearly leveled up—it was on a whole different tier compared to before.
Considering how each of his personality traits and ways of handling things were tied to the mask, that kind of change could only be related to fusing with the mask. The mask was a metaphor, representing one’s outward persona—but not necessarily one’s true self.
Fusing with his face obviously meant a deeper connection—possibly a stronger link to the Sealed Artifact.
Or maybe, it just went deeper.
The deeper Sin fused with the mask, the more his rationality dropped. That was something Xie Antong had already noticed long ago.
So logically, that last sentence he said must’ve been something he forced himself to get out just as his rationality was slipping away.
Which means, thinking from that angle—that unfamiliar tone of voice she heard might very well have been Sin’s real voice.
His real voice—something that had never shown up before.
She used to think his voice might’ve been from one of the masks. She even suspected that Greed might be his actual voice.
That’s some terrifying disguise…
The kind of slip-up no normal person would notice, she cared about it this much because—somehow—it sounded a bit familiar.
Even though she kept wondering if it was just her imagination, her emotions wouldn’t let her drop it.
Maybe it was exactly the weight of all those negative emotions that let her finally quiet down.
“What are you thinking about?”
A voice sounded in her ear, yanking her out of her daydream. She shivered a bit and said:
“Oh, nothing. Just thinking about the game.”
The one who asked, of course, was Lu Ce.
He’d noticed how off she was getting every time a game ended, and was starting to suspect the side effects were hitting her too hard.
It’s just a weapon, though. Shouldn’t have side effects, right? He’d been spamming all kinds of Sequence V gear and came out fine.
“Mm, you do seem pretty invested in the game.”
Seeing that she still had some mental clarity, Lu Ce didn’t press it further and just responded casually.
Xie Antong nodded. Her mood and energy were low now, and she wasn’t in the mood to joke around with Lu Ce like before.
Suddenly, something flickered through her mind—like her brain had just started working again.
What did he just say?
What was the tone and sound of his voice just now?
Xie Antong’s eyes suddenly went blank, then confused. Her forced calm expression couldn’t quite hide the shock. She turned her head and looked at Lu Ce.
“You… what have you been up to lately?”
Lu Ce: ?
Come on now, are we really so out of things to talk about that we’re just pulling random stuff?
“Not much. Just playing the game and all that.”
There it is!
Xie Antong’s pupils trembled instantly. She wasn’t even trying to talk—she was listening to Lu Ce’s voice.
That strange sense of familiarity popped into her mind again.
For a second, she couldn’t even believe it.
Must be an illusion!
Maybe her obsession was just too strong—making her force a connection to something that wasn’t there.
Besides, lots of people have similar voices...
Her mind was in total chaos. Without the All-Seeing Eye, she couldn’t bring out any of her weapons, and that left her completely unsure.
If she had the All-Seeing Eye, she could’ve analyzed the syllables, then reverse-engineered his physical vocal structure.
But now, without the boost from the All-Seeing Eye, she had no solid way to confirm anything.
Still, that familiar feeling kept gnawing at her, making her heartbeat quicken.
She was even starting to forget all those heavy negative emotions, because a totally absurd question was forming in her head.
—If Sin had been hiding so much from her that even his real voice had never appeared…
Then was it possible that the personality he showed on the surface was also completely different from what was behind the mask?
Even to the point of being a total reversal!
The more she thought about it, the more eerie it felt. Her whole state was even more spaced out than before.
Lu Ce looked at her like her condition had just gotten worse. Then he saw her suddenly turn and ask, as if it were nothing:
“How’s your game been lately?”
“Same old, same old.” Lu Ce frowned a bit. His instincts were telling him something was off with her.
“How about the difficulty? Run into anything super dangerous?”
“Lately, with the Strongest Player going viral, more people are realizing this game can actually be life-threatening.”
“Did you see the Tokyo news?”
A whole string of questions hit Lu Ce out of nowhere. He thought, weren’t you just in an emo slump a second ago? Why’re you suddenly all fired up again?
And come to think of it… all these questions are kinda about me, huh...
“Not that dangerous, I guess. The risky games are still the minority—low probability.”
In the past, Xie Antong wouldn’t have thought anything of a reply like that. But now she noticed—this guy never gives a straight answer!
“Have you ever played… Hell Game?”
“That one’s super rare, right? I’ve barely even paid attention to it.”
The more she thought, the more it didn’t sit right. She felt like she was playing the part of that person who “harbors explosive rage but stays calm on the surface,” and continued asking in a relaxed tone:
“Wanna team up for the next game?”
“I met this really strong high-level player. Maybe I can get him to join us too—might be safer if we stick with him.”
