Chapter 791 - 506: New Hall Rules [06] One Trap After Another, You Won’t Escape [Part 2]
As soon as Rosie’s voice was heard, Elder Carter had an ominous premonition.
But, holding onto a sliver of hope, he expected it to be merely Nora Scott’s trick, aiming to make them believe she really held something over them to achieve her goals...
So he strode boldly into the study.
Once he went in, he never came out again.
The six remaining elders: ???
Could he have been trapped inside and killed?
At least there should be some sound!
Half an hour later, Rosie’s voice once again echoed in the living room, but instead of unnerving "evidence," it was reminding them they could eat, asking Amy to go upstairs to get lunch for a few elders.
Amy went to the second floor upon hearing this.
As she reached the corridor, she saw a door of a room open, and Rosie peeked out. Seeing her, Rosie waved her over to pick up the lunch.
Amy walked over and saw three bags on the floor containing takeout boxes, unmarked. She was stunned and asked, "Did you make this yourselves?"
"No, it’s takeout from Virtue Retreat."
Amy was surprised, "Virtue Retreat delivers takeout?"
Blinking, Rosie said helplessly, "...I’ll explain it to you later."
"Hold on," Amy wanted to leave with the takeout, thought better of it, and turned back, asking suspiciously, "There’s no movement on the first floor, the front and back doors are sealed, so where did the takeout come in from?"
Rosie said matter-of-factly, "This is the Mechanism Villa."
"Huh?"
Amy was baffled.
She was different from Rosie; since she initially clashed with Nora Scott, they had never gotten along well. Nora Scott could tell Rosie most of the mechanisms in the Mechanism Villa, but for Amy, she only introduced it as "the Mechanism Villa," without revealing an extra word.
Amy wasn’t interested in Mechanical Techniques, and after Rosie had mentioned the Sullivan Clan’s Mechanism City, it was just that, so she hardly paid attention to the Mechanism Villa.
"Ahem," Rosie felt a bit awkward, thought for a moment, then explained, "it means there are actually many ways to get in and out of the villa..."
Rosie tried her best to explain softly to Amy.
Amy sensed her difficulty and didn’t press further, responding with a vague "Oh" before leaving with the lunch.
...
That day, Elder Carter stayed in the study for the entire afternoon.
Not until nightfall, with the other elders discussing whether to go in and check, did he finally come out. But he was like a changed person, pallid and despairing, as if his soul had been siphoned away.
He walked numbly up to the Mansfield siblings, "Give me a new hall regulation."
—He had torn his copy to shreds.
???
The Mansfield siblings exchanged a slightly surprised look.
They had as many new hall regulations as they needed. Barton quickly took out a fresh copy and handed it to Elder Carter, who didn’t even look at it closely before signing his name and stamping it with his seal.
The elders: ???
What kind of inhumane torture did you endure in the study?!
Their astonishment wasn’t diluted in the slightest.
An afternoon’s time was enough for them to read the new hall regulation through once or twice.
The existence of the new hall regulation greatly diminished their power and authority, even to the point of sidelining them. They were accustomed to the sensation of being surrounded by people wherever they went, inside and outside the halls. The outcome of the new hall regulation was something they absolutely couldn’t bear.
And, the one thing they couldn’t understand was—
The new hall regulation would equally weaken Nora Scott’s power significantly. Why would Nora Scott do such a seemingly foolish thing?
What was even harder to believe was that Elder Carter, who should have been on their side, changed his mind in merely one afternoon, signed his name without a word.
Afterward, he sat down as if dead, watching them silently with a chilling presence, as if waiting for one of them to fall as he did.
This demeanor made a few of the elders a bit panicky.
Someone went forward, trying to probe Elder Carter, but Elder Carter refused to utter a word, only let out a cold sneer, then played mute.
Soon, Rosie’s voice echoed once more—
"Elder Carter, you can choose to take twenty-one million and leave, or you can choose to stay here and leave in seven days."
Elder Carter fixed his gaze on the other six, his expression bone-chilling, as he enunciated, "I’m not leaving."
The six elders: "..." Damn, this just got more terrifying.
What exactly happened? Ahhh! It was driving them crazy!
Elder Carter got the exact effect he wanted, clamping his mouth shut and refusing to say a word, sitting quietly while eating his dinner, all the while intermittently gazing at them and occasionally letting out a cold laugh, making everyone uneasy.
...
As the night grew later, two quick-tempered elders, unable to figure out the mechanisms, resorted to violence, smashing windows, doors, walls, but to no avail. Later, after demolishing the entire living room, they intended to storm the second floor to confront Nora directly, but as they turned at the second-floor corner, an iron door descended from the sky, blocking their access to the second floor.
The two men shouted and hollered, making a spectacle of themselves until they were utterly exhausted, eventually returning downstairs. What they didn’t expect was that as soon as they stepped off the last stair, someone’s foot slipped, and the floor sank beneath them. Before they had time to react, the floor suddenly split open, and the two plummeted down.
In mere seconds, the floor closed up again, and the two elders had vanished without a trace.
This scene left everyone in the living room stunned.
Even though they clearly knew they were in the Mechanism Villa, they only thought of it as having "windows and doors that couldn’t be opened," never imagining that an unassuming villa like this could contain such traps...
Mechanism traps just like those in martial arts dramas!
