Chapter 314 - 203: The Ancient City of Loulanel, Miguel Smith Detects Something Amiss [Part 2]
Third floor, end of the corridor.
Humphrey Jennings and Benjamin Durant didn’t enter the ward; the window was open, letting the wind in. Humphrey had a cigarette in his hand, unlit, just pinched in his palm, while Benjamin leaned against the wall, one hand in his pocket, long leg stretching and bending.
"What’s the situation?" Benjamin asked.
"A professional robbery gang, left no clues. That place, hard to find."
"That’s bad, Uncle’s friend got into trouble on our turf, and we can’t catch anyone, how to explain to Uncle?"
Frowning deeply, Sir Jennings was quite irritable, "With his minor injuries, explain my ass."
"Is that even human speech?" Benjamin disagreed, speaking up for Miguel Smith, "Has to be bedridden for several days, you know."
"Making a mountain out of a molehill."
At the thought of Miguel Smith squawking when getting an injection, Humphrey Jennings felt extremely disdainful.
"Temperamental."
Benjamin clicked his tongue, then raised his eyebrows at him, "Uncle plans to choose an auspicious day to pick a fight at Serendipity Pavilion, are you going with her?"
With a cold glance his way, Humphrey asked, "Fighting why?"
Shrugging, Benjamin helplessly said, "She thinks our investigation is progressing too slowly, wants to take the initiative, dig for some clues or something."
"Hmm."
"What does ’hmm’ mean?"
Hearing his affirmation, Benjamin was dissatisfied.
After a circling gaze that swept away Benjamin’s aura, Humphrey Jennings nodded slightly, "She has a point being dissatisfied."
Benjamin: "..."
Damn it!
I’ll beat you up sooner or later!
*
In the ward.
Miguel Smith, who had just finished an IV, was nervously stiff all over when the needle was pulled out, holding his breath, eyes tightly shut, yet couldn’t help but peek through his eyelids at the nurse’s actions.
He looked particularly comical.
The nurse couldn’t help but chuckle, pulled out the needle in a second, then let him put pressure on the puncture site.
"Thank you."
Miguel pressed his hand, took a deep breath, immediately feeling like he had survived a disaster, smiling brightly as he thanked the nurse.
"You alright?" the nurse asked understandingly, smiling, "Is it fear of blood or needle phobia?"
"...Both."
Miguel lamented tragically.
The nurse: "..." This handsome guy is too pitiful.
After a few comforting words, the nurse left.
Standing aside, witnessing the scene, Nora Scott’s eyelids twitched, "Full of quirks." No wonder Humphrey Jennings despised him.
"Nora, honestly, are you here to visit the sick or to pick a fight?" Miguel cradled his fragile heart, angrily accusing.
Kicking over a chair, Nora sat down calmly, "Passing by."
"..."
Miguel wanted to spit old blood at her.
Nora scanned the room, noticing that Humphrey Jennings really was rough; there wasn’t a trace of snacks or fruit in Miguel’s ward, no way to pass time.
"Weren’t you in Cloud City earlier, suddenly ran off to Sand Delta for what?"
A bit disappointed, Nora cut straight to the point with her question.
Leaning against the headboard waiting for Nora’s welfare visit, Miguel was stunned, shocked, "Aren’t you going to ask about me?"
Nora gave him a once-over, "Am I blind or brainless?"
The thigh was stabbed, not hitting any arteries; the head was bumped, wrapped with a bandage. In addition, minor scrapes, easily ignored, most could be covered with band-aids.
"..."
Miguel was annoyed by her.
But, only for a few seconds, and he volunteered, "I even got my visa sorted out, planning to go abroad. Going to Sand Delta was a spur-of-the-moment decision."
There was a little episode during that period.
After getting his visa, Miguel actually wanted to return to Returning Seal City, as Antonio Easton’s health was getting worse, he thought he should at least spend a few days together in person. However, during a video call with Antonio, he refused, and they said their final goodbyes over the call.
But this wasn’t something necessary to tell Nora.
Nora asked: "For what reason?"
"When I was in Sand Delta before, I met a geological expedition team, because we wanted to go to the same place, I joined them. I got along pretty well with a few of them, and we exchanged WeChat when parting ways."
"Do you know about Loulanel?"
Miguel unexpectedly threw out two pieces of information, with no logical order whatsoever.
Loulanel, a name shrouded in mystery.
Located in the Lop Nur area of the Western Region, boasting over eight hundred years of history, due to its mysterious disappearance and archaeological value, countless scholars flock to it.
Ancient Loulan, a small country on the ancient Silk Road, was an important transport hub linking the mainland to the Western Region, once had a glorious history, but now, it’s just a wasteland.
"Has your logic gone out flying?"
