Chapter 56

Morena’s P O V

Ignoring Leander turned out to be a very challenging task. Especially since he has been nothing but considered towards me the past few days. He spends all day by my side. Whenever I wake up, he is right there staring at me. He stopped trying to initiate any conversation after the last time. He would just stay there in silence. I did not like the fact that I found his proximity comforting. I woke up once and he was not there and I felt panic sip into my veins. I tried my best not to show how relieved I was when he finally stepped back into the room. But I think he took notice of it anyway. He was as sharp as a dagger. He was always there when I woke up after that time. Right now, he was whispering in the corner with Asher. I tried to eavesdrop but it was futile. Like every thing about me, my werewolf hearing was not that sharp either. All I know for sure is that their conversation was about me since they kept glancing my way every now and then.

“Are you guys planning how to get rid of me without anyone taking notice?” I bite out sarcastically. They were talking about me without even including me. I was sitting right here in the same room. How rude! They both seem taken back by the fact that I even talked. Asher just smirked at my remark while Leander's expression was a mystery to me. I could not read what he was thinking.

“We were doing no such thing, sweetheart.” Asher replies. “I am pretty sure I will lose my precious family jewels along with those of my brother if we touch a hair strand of yours nowadays.” He jokes.

“What do you mean?” I demand not fully getting what he meant by what he said.

“Your sister threatened to castrate us if anything wrong happens to you, yesterday.” He explains shuddering at the memory. Rena probably flipped out on him. She was a good docile girl but she was also a firecracker and you did not want to get in her way if she got pissed off. Oh my god! Rena! She completely slipped my mind. I knew she was completely safe since Leander showed remorse but I forgot how the poor thing must be feeling with me being gone for days now.

“Does she know what happened?” I ask and their expressions turn grim.

“We have not told her yet. All she knows is that you are hurt and hospitalized. She was=noted to see you immediately but we told her we were keeping the whole thing under wraps and she understood.” Asher explains.

“She has become impatient the last few days though. She was even threatening us yesterday.” Leander butts in and I do not even glance in his direction. I keep my full attention on his brother.

“It was cute how pissed off she looked yesterday if you ask me. But her angry expression was no joke. She is usually scared of Leander and she runs the opposite direction once she sees him but yesterday she stood her ground. Leander looked like he was about to crush her with his thumb.”He jokes and I glance in panic to Leander. He did not hurt her did he?

“ I was not going to hurt her. She had every right to ask about her sister and we were avoiding the matter for days. Her anger was totally understandable.” Leander says in his defense, throwing a deathly glare in the direction of his brother. Who pretends like he did not even see it. Asher was clearly finding all of this amusing.

“The doctor has cleared you to go back home. He said it was okay for you to continue recovering back in our room. That was what we were talking about. Rena is insistent on seeing you and we were not sure if you would like that.”Leander says slowly as if afraid of my reaction. Of course I want t go back to the room. He referred to it as “our room”. I did not know what to think of that. But it would be great if I could continue resting there instead of being locked in this room. At least when I was stuck in Leander’s room, I had my phone, books and TV.

“I think it’s for the best that I see her. The poor thing must be going crazy with me gone. I have never left her since the day our parents passed away. But not like this. I probably look like a mess. I should clean up a bit and get out of this hospital gown.” I say to no one in particular. I surely was not going to address Leander. He still has not earned the right yet. As long as there was somebody else in the room, my words would be directed at them.

“It is already the evening. She can come see you tomorrow morning after you get settled in.” Leander says, giving a look to his brother who nods in understanding. He excuses himself and leaves the room.

We sat there in silence with Leander back on his usual seat staring at me. What is going to happen now? Didn't they say I was cleared to leave the hospital? Why were we still here then? Did they change their minds? I see Leander’s gaze flicker and I know someone mind linked him. He abruptly stands up and comes to my side.

“Come on, let’s get you out of here.” He says reaching to pick me up and I stop him.

“I can walk.” I say defiantly and even I can hear the lie in that. I was barely able to lift my hand to prevent him from touching me just now.

“You either let me carry you or you stay here. The choice is yours, Morena.”he calmly says his voice not betraying any emotion whatsoever. I wanted out of here and he had a point so I just gave up and let him carry me as those familiar sparkles exploded all over my body.
