Chapter 895 - 524: Meeting

Chapter 895 - 524: Meeting

Jimmy nodded, just as he thought. From the looks of their positions, they were on external defensive monitoring. If they were really targeting the cabin, they'd be spread out near it.

Walking into the cabin with Tom, the two men in the living room didn't seem to be the ones Jimmy wanted to see. One was young, the other looked slightly mature.

Tom led Jimmy to the study, knocked on the door, "Come in."

Tom: "Mrs. Valz, this is Jimmy."

Jimmy stood beside Tom, just standing there. An old lady sat in a wheelchair, and an old man sat in a chair next to her.

Mrs. Valz: "Sit down, Tommy. So this is Jimmy? Very spirited young man, but he doesn't seem to have much in common with Veronica."

After Tom and Jimmy sat opposite Mrs. Valz and the old man, he said, "If it weren't for Veronica personally bringing him to the training camp, I wouldn't believe she had a Chinese son. It's indeed surprising, but it's real."

Jimmy looked expressionless at the two elders present. He had thought about it before, no need to be too enthusiastic since he wasn't familiar with them and had never seen them before, but also no need to be too cold because that would feel very bad. Just treat them normally.

Mrs. Valz: "Yes, it's okay. Jimmy, I guess Tom has already told you about your grandfather."

Jimmy nodded: "Mother never talked about grandfather."

Mrs. Valz sighed: "Ah, it's normal for her not to talk. Her father was indeed quite a bastard back then, not just to her but also her mother."

Mrs. Valz looked at the old man next to her: "Andrew, this is the grandson of Harry Anderson, his little daughter Veronica, you should remember? This is her son."

Old man Andrew: "Yes, I remember. I guess this is why you called me here, Harry still has a bloodline left. Good, very good."

Mrs. Valz: "Yes, I suppose over so many years, you've already investigated clearly?"

Andrew nodded: "Harry's family, ah, Greg went too far, regardless of any personal grievances he and Harry had, his actions were excessive."

Mrs. Valz: "When I discovered it before, it was too late. There was nothing I could do; I couldn't save the others."

Andrew: "I heard he had a little accident before in Washington, D.C."

Mrs. Valz: "Yes, there's currently no investigation result, too few clues, and he offended too many people."

Andrew waved his hand: "Let's not talk about him." He looked at Jimmy, "Jimmy, is it? Tell us, how have you been living these past years."

Jimmy looked at Andrew, then turned to Mrs. Valz: "Mrs. Valz..."

Mrs. Valz waved her hand: "I was your grandfather's friend, just call me granny."

Jimmy smoothly changed the address: "Granny Valz, you know my identity is quite sensitive, and this is?"

Andrew: "I served with your grandfather in the same unit, and later joined DIA together, so don't worry, call me Andrew."

Jimmy saw Mrs. Valz also nod, then he spoke up: "Grandpa Andrew."

Jimmy greeted and then began recounting the afternoon's events about his previous life, "Since childhood, I accompanied mom moving around, we lived the longest in Utah and Montana, also lived in Virginia for a while.

Ten years ago, mom had me join a training camp, but during my time in training, she passed away from an illness, cancer.

Tom was my mother's friend, he taught me in the training camp, and after finishing the camp's mission, I went dormant.

I first worked as a sheriff in Arkansas for two years, then by chance got a recommendation from someone in the FBI, joined the FBI, and now settled in New York. In recent years, my life has been quite simple, just handling cases."

Mrs. Valz: "You haven't been to Langley before?"

Jimmy nodded: "The camp didn't have a CIA mark; actually, I only learned at the end that she had registered me, Tom told me my identity then, and that I was to be arranged to go dormant awaiting activation."

Mrs. Valz: "You haven't done any missions?"

Jimmy shook his head: "No, my file should be clean."

Mrs. Valz nodded, glanced at Andrew, then at Jimmy: "Did your mother ever tell you about your father?"

Jimmy shook his head: "No, I've never seen him, no Asians in family photos. I asked before, but she never mentioned, just said it's a beautiful mistake."

Mrs. Valz: "Haven't seen her for decades, first knew about her when she was still a minor. Ah, poor child, passed away from cancer early."

Jimmy glanced at Tom, who reached into his suit pocket and took out his wallet, pulled out the two photos inside, glanced at them, and handed Veronica's photo to Mrs. Valz.

After receiving the photo, Mrs. Valz didn't look at it but instead looked at the other photo in Jimmy's hand, "Who's that girl?"

Jimmy paused for a moment, then handed over Nia's photo, "This is my fiancée. I proposed to her recently, we're discussing when to hold the engagement ceremony."

Mrs. Valz looked at the photo, nodded, "Very pretty girl, not bad." She picked up Veronica's photo, "Yes, it's indeed her, grown up to be more beautiful."

Mrs. Valz handed the photo to Andrew and continued to look at Jimmy, "This is the reason, isn't it? This girl."

Jimmy nodded, "I've been with the FBI for many years, I've gotten used to this life. The key is, I'm about to have my own family."

Andrew returned the photo to Jimmy, "What are you talking about?"

Mrs. Valz chuckled: "Jimmy was put into CIA by Veronica, and now he wants out."

Andrew looked at Jimmy: "Why?"

Jimmy: "I just don't want her and her family to find out I'm living a double life. I hope to have a normal family."

Andrew: "What's the difference? It's just a job."

Jimmy speechlessly looked at Andrew, "CIA agents and FBI agents aren't the same. I can't peacefully tell others I'm a CIA field agent; it's terrifying."

Andrew raised his voice: "Just don't tell them, we've been living like this for decades."

Jimmy was speechless; this Andrew, working in intelligence for decades, might have a set mindset: "Grandpa Andrew, it's not the Cold War and Vietnam era anymore. The key is, my public identity is a senior FBI agent. These two professions have conflicts."

Mrs. Valz spoke to stop Andrew's next words, "I can understand, Andrew. Now the kids have grown up, they can decide their own future."

Andrew sighed: "He's like that, my grandson is too. He didn't even want to join the Ministry of Defense, if I hadn't forced him, he wouldn't even want to join the army."

Mrs. Valz: "Yes, now they have their own ideas, we are already old, can't keep up with the times."

Mrs. Valz glanced at the lady's watch on her wrist, she looked at Tom: "Tommy, I called Thomas over, he'll be here in 20 minutes; you wait in the next room first."

Andrew: "Thomas Nolan?"

Mrs. Valz nodded: "Yes."

Andrew: "Tommy, stay with us. I don't want to see him."

Tom nodded, Andrew got up and left the study with him, Jimmy turned his head watching them leave. Mrs. Valz patted the chair next to her, "Come sit here, child; tell me properly how you've been living all these years."

Jimmy did not refuse, he got up and dragged the chair where Andrew sat to sit beside Mrs. Valz.

Tom had previously introduced Mrs. Valz to Jimmy, former CIA Deputy Director, and a woman who rose to high position during the Cold War, which was rare, indicating just how formidable this old lady was.
