Chapter 1538 - 825: Embarrassment
Starting anew in a new world is somewhat familiar to Jimmy, after all, he previously began anew from being a homeless person. But now, with more resources and stronger abilities, life is evidently going to be a little better.
From Jimmy's perspective, this ruin is an excellent location. The building carved inside the mountain is undoubtedly very sturdy. Unless there's substantial geological activity affecting the mountain, a minor earthquake at least won't compromise the main structure, at most just causing displacement of items.
On the first night after arriving, experiencing an earthquake did leave Jimmy somewhat shaken. He hadn't previously experienced disasters like earthquakes, volcanoes, or thunderstorms. Being taken away by such potential disasters in his sleep was too distressing, so his first thought was to find a safe place.
However, there are also significant issues within the ruins. If a wooden cabin collapses, it won't lead to a complete loss of escape hope for those inside. But if something happens inside the mountain, don't count on anyone coming to rescue you. Perhaps that's why those people built wooden cabin bases down there.
After some thought, Jimmy decided to tidy up here, at least clearing out a corner where he could set up a temporary bed.
This world is extremely chaotic, and not all civilians are so peaceful. There's a significant amount of supplies stored here; if someone discovers them, they might be cleared out quickly.
Unfortunately, Jimmy is alone. Although time is relatively ample, building a perfectly complete shelter is quite troublesome. He can only try to build a small livable space and clear out a room to store supplies. Keeping all those supplies in the room with the portal isn't ideal; if discovered, they could all be taken.
Anyone who frequently moves knows how difficult it is to tidy up a small den, especially when organizing a room filled with accumulated junk over a year or two. Jimmy is facing this very challenge.
It's not just scattered items in these rooms; there are crucial pieces of cracked concrete or other heavy objects, with moss and dust on the floor, making cleanup even harder.
Fortunately, he has enough time. Before Roland returns, he doesn't plan to wander around. Although he won't forget the route if he doesn't go far, maintaining caution in a completely unfamiliar place is necessary; encountering others would pose interaction problems.

While Jimmy was scrambling to tidy up the room in the ruins, Nia was worrying about him too. Even though he had just left, she had already visualized numerous possibilities.
Since her pregnancy started, Nia has been less focused on her previous work as a detective. The more she rests, the lazier she becomes, and after little Liam was born, her mind was entirely on the little one, paying little attention to work or other matters. But after hearing about a new world, she inexplicably wanted to check it out.
It's not like the feeling of wanting to leave the city to travel elsewhere; it's more inclined towards exploring unknown lands.
However, a lot of things are impulsive thoughts. When they're really related to oneself or family, once the impulsive period is over, it's time for regret.
Only now, regretting is useless; all she can do is pray that Jimmy returns safely.
Jimmy left his phone at home because taking it there wouldn't be of any use, and leaving it at home has an advantage too. If someone calls him, at least Nia can help make excuses and avoid having someone report him missing.
Holding Liam, with several phones in her bag, Nia strolled slowly with her child through the park behind the house, breathing in the fresh air and soaking up the sun.
The air quality in the park is pretty good, at least here there's none of the various airborne smells lingering over Manhattan. For Nia, who frequently stays in Manhattan, this is already pretty decent, so she often takes the little one out, definitely better than staying in the nursery all the time.
Jimmy has been away for a few days. According to the plan, she's preparing to stay at her parents' house for a while in a few days, which is also part of the cover. Hopefully, she won't need to use the reason of having a falling out with Jimmy; it's too hurtful.
Coming up with excuses isn't really easy. Jimmy is a grown-up now, cutting off all contact and running away for a vacation is not something someone who has just become a dad should do. Short-term is fine, but if he exceeds a certain period, people around him will start noticing something's amiss.
It's relatively simple to make excuses to Kevin and the others. After all, Jimmy used to go on business trips for over a month; as long as he calls regularly to ensure he's safe, Nia can manage with a few small lies. The real trouble is with others, like Ruiz.
Jimmy has been gone for two weeks; the phone has rung a few times during this period, but not many troublesome matters.
A DEA agent named Hank informed Jimmy that a prisoner in a case will have a trial next month, hoping he can attend, Nia said she'd notify Jimmy, and whether he goes or not is his decision. She knows Jimmy is handling a case involving Mexican drug dealers in Albuquerque, but whether he can return from the Dark Tower World by then is still unknown.
