Chapter 1495 803: Targeted_2
The people in the house didn't keep watch constantly; you could see someone sitting in a room on the first floor now, and it was just one person, not the usual multiple shifts for 24-hour surveillance.
During the past few days, no one was watching Jesse here, which was a significant oversight. But since Hank and Gomez were both taken down, Jimmy's identity was not clear at that time, so it wasn't realistic for him to keep watch himself.
It wasn't until evening that Jimmy realized Jesse had returned from outside, meaning they had been watching in vain all day, originally planning to see him leave, but he hadn't returned all day.
Jimmy patted the DEA brother keeping watch out front, saying he would rest for a while since Jesse had just returned and probably wouldn't leave again soon.
However, he soon found himself unable to sleep. Near midnight, he received a phone call, "Mr. Yang, are you able to take the call now?"
"Hold on." Although the person on the other end didn't mention their name, Jimmy already knew who it was. He told the agent up front, stepped out of the car, walked a short distance away, lit a cigarette, and said to the phone, "I can talk now. What's up?"
"There's word from the manager that someone is inquiring about you. There's been no further investigation yet. Would you like us to look into it?"
"When did they start investigating?"
"Yesterday."
"Thanks, do proceed and convey my regards to the manager."
"Certainly. Goodbye, Mr. Yang."
"Goodbye, Charon."
Jimmy hung up the phone, continuing to stand there smoking, but now he was more suspicious of Gus.
He had only been handling Hank's ambush case for two or three days, having been in Albuquerque to visit Hank for just over a week. Who could know his details so accurately and directly investigate him on the underworld front?
Clearly, only someone who really understood the reason for Hank's assault and the people behind it would keep an eye on Hank's side, and Jimmy and crew's investigations were all within the DEA office, with only DEA people privy to the information. The only outsider was Gustavo Flynn and his employees. Setting aside the unlikely possibility of someone behind the scenes arranging for someone to disguise as Gus's employee, you could pretty much pin it on Gus.
These people acted quickly. Just within two or three days, they had acquired Jimmy's identity from the DEA and directly found his base in New York. They must have accessed FBI records, even though some of Jimmy's records weren't confidential, just inaccessible to regular agents without clearance. Additionally, many records were high-level and required authorization to access.
The fact they still sought Jimmy's data through underworld channels indicated that their data access level wasn't too high. However, the underworld could gather more non-work records about Jimmy, including his family information, which complicated matters.
Jimmy checked the time; it was already very late, and Nia was certainly asleep by now. He called Kevin, and Kevin answered after a short while, "Jimmy, what's up?"
Jimmy whispered, "Kevin, I need Nia and Liam to stay with you for a while."
Kevin: "What happened?"
Jimmy: "I was temporarily assigned to handle a case in Albuquerque. The current data pretty much confirms the assassin ambushing the DEA was from a Mexican cartel. My identity here is public. You know how ruthless these cartels can be. I'm worried..."
Kevin: "Alright, I get it. I'll pick them up first thing in the morning. Don't worry; I'll arrange everything."
Jimmy: "Sorry, Kevin, I didn't expect this to happen either."
Kevin: "No need to apologize, I understand. Take care of yourself."
Jimmy exchanged a few more words before ending the call. Regardless of whether the other party would act recklessly, Jimmy had to ensure his family's safety in advance. Kevin's home was very secure, and as long as Nia didn't leave the house, it would be fine. Even if they did plan something, it wouldn't be settled in a day or two, giving her and Liam enough time to relocate to Kevin's place.
Jimmy tossed the cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out, then returned to the car to continue watching Jesse's house.

Mike had acquired Jimmy's public records. Just by looking at Jimmy's promotion timeline, he understood how strong he was and what a solid backing he had. Not everyone could climb from a trainee agent to a Supervisory Special Agent in six or seven years; such promotion speed was undoubtedly for a select few, and people like this certainly had powerful backing pushing them forward.
The friend who provided Mike with the records directly warned him afterward that while he could share the records, he absolutely couldn't let it involve him. If someone like Jimmy targeted him, even the people behind him could be in trouble.
The New York FBI office is one of the three major divisions, and to climb so quickly in such an institution, one must have significant achievements and strong backing. It was imaginable how strong Jimmy was when you considered some of his previous cases had high confidentiality, which he couldn't even access. Despite having enough information to frighten many people, especially those aware of how intricate the situation was.
The underworld documents also faxed over smoothly, and after seeing the intelligence on Jimmy's family, Mike gritted his teeth.
In Gus's office, Mike stood in front of Gus's desk again, "That FBI agent, Jimmy Yang, has a very complex background."
Gus put down the report in his hand and looked at Mike, "What do you mean by complex?"
Mike: "He's very strong, extremely strong, with the nickname 'The Butcher', having taken down over a hundred criminals..."
Gus's previously calm face changed, his brows furrowed, and Mike continued, "Also, his wife is the daughter of the current NYPD chief, and they have a newborn baby."
Gus contemplated for a moment, then slowly said, "This is a formidable opponent, and his family provides an additional layer of protection for him."
Mike nodded, "Indeed, moving directly poses too much risk and could draw unnecessary attention."
Gus: "Then, we need a different strategy, keep our distance, closely monitor his actions, carefully understand his habits, and find out his daily activities and acquaintances."
Mike: "What about his wife? Should we arrange for someone to watch her?"
Gus: "We don't touch his family, just observe. If he continues his investigation, we need to know his target."
Mike: "What if he gets close?"
Gus: "Create a smokescreen, divert him towards others. I'll find a suitable target."
Mike nodded, turned, and left Gus's office. Gus stared at the wall for a while, then continued to process the reports on his desk. His long-standing habits ensured he could remain calm at any time, maintaining his image as a successful entrepreneur.

Their surveillance on Jesse was effective. Even in the middle of the night, there were drug dealers leaving Jesse's house. These people, however, were not caught for interrogation by Jimmy's team. They followed the same routine as those seen during the day: photographed and later investigated for their identities.
By the next afternoon, Jesse finally stepped out of the house, groggily walking to the car, and after waiting a few minutes, he started the car and drove off.
Jimmy had the agent up front follow, and just after passing a few streets, the car ahead suddenly turned and sped up at an intersection, so that by the time Jimmy's team made the turn, it was already far down the road.
