Chapter 1489 800: Kidnapping_2
Chapter 1489 800: Kidnapping_2
Miguel didn't have much experience, and it was evidently awkward for two strangers to sit silently in a car watching a house. After a period of silence, Miguel took the initiative to ask some questions about Jimmy's investigation direction and current plans, trying to ease the awkwardness.
Jimmy, not being stingy with his knowledge, realized that Steven's trust in assigning Miguel as his assistant suggested a good relationship between the two. Teaching the young man a bit about investigation wasn't a big deal. So, he shared his thoughts with him, which would also facilitate better cooperation later, since they had to stake out for a while.
However, Jimmy was somewhat frustrated. Who would have thought that he would encounter two people attacking him just as he started surveillance? His knack for trouble was genuinely troubling; it seemed that every time he went out, he would run into some inexplicable events.
Miguel's phone rang. He took the call, listened to the voice on the other end, said thank you, and hung up. "We found them, those two thugs' superior has been identified, and the department has assigned people to investigate."
Jimmy nodded, "There must be surveillance points around Jesse's house; someone must have notified them to come and work. Find a way to investigate their phone records; it wasn't convenient to do so at the station earlier."

"Wake up, Yang." Miguel patted Jimmy, who immediately sat up straight. "What's up?"
Miguel nodded with his chin towards something, "That person just came out of the house."
A man covered in tattoos came out of the house, wearing ragged jeans and a dirty vest, with messy hair and a stagger in his walk, clearly having used drugs. However, he was carrying a new, beautiful bag that didn't match his appearance at all.
Jimmy: "Keep an eye on him; he's suspicious."
Miguel turned the key to start the car but didn't shift gears. He waited until the person reached the intersection before starting the car to turn around. The speed wasn't fast, as tailing someone on foot wasn't easy; too fast wouldn't work, and too slow would be too obvious.
Jimmy and Miguel waited at the intersection, watching the person walk forward until he reached the next intersection. Then, they started to approach again. But when they arrived at the intersection, they saw a van parked in front, with two people pushing the man into the vehicle. The van started moving even before they were fully inside.
Kidnapping someone off the street in broad daylight—this was incredible. And kidnapping a drug addict for what reason? It had to be related to the man himself or the bag he was carrying. That's all Jimmy could think of.
"Follow them," Jimmy said as Miguel had already started to accelerate. The van in front wasn't slow either, and it turned at the intersection; any slower, and they would lose them.
Clearly, Miguel hadn't received training in tailing someone; he was driving a bit recklessly, not slowing enough at the turning, causing the tires to screech. Sitting in the passenger seat, Jimmy was a bit anxious, grabbing the handle above to stabilize himself.
After following for a couple of blocks, the other party apparently noticed Miguel and also began driving recklessly, overtaking in the wrong lane and running red lights.
"Keep going, speed up," Jimmy instructed Miguel to keep up. Running red lights and reckless driving weren't big problems; this was a disguised vehicle, and they could erase the records later. After some time, a New Mexico State Police patrol car had already caught up with them.
"Did you bring a radio?" Jimmy looked at the rearview mirror; the State Police were catching up quickly, right behind them, while the van in front was still speeding away.
"No, this car isn't equipped with a radio either."
Jimmy was helpless. He took out his FBI badge, opened the window, and signaled to the outside. "Slow down, let the police car catch up."
The State Police obviously saw the badge Jimmy held up. Although he couldn't see the details, it clearly indicated his identity. A surge of the accelerator pedal brought the police car to the right side. Jimmy saw the officer roll down the window and immediately shouted, "FBI, we found that van in front kidnapped someone, and we're in pursuit."
The officer turned his head to look at the credentials Jimmy revealed and nodded, flooring the accelerator and charging ahead with his target now plainly the van ahead.
They chased from the city to the suburbs; although the van's performance wasn't as good as the police car trailing them, it still used the traffic and street grid to evade capture.
Finally, after a turn, the van ran into an accident, hitting a curb and coming to an askew halt. Three people then exited the van, running into a yard before the police car and Jimmy's vehicle could stop, heading sideways to the back of the house.
There were coincidentally three of them, and they split up in pursuit. However, except for Jimmy, the others had run in vain.
The drug addict in the van was slumped in the seat, with blood on his head. A glance at the seat armrest in front showed a bit of blood too, indicating that he was knocked unconscious during the earlier accident.
The bag wasn't in the van; Jimmy's group was the last to stop, and when Jimmy arrived, the people in the van had already begun to flee. Evidently, one of them ran off with the bag, and Jimmy's group couldn't know what exactly was in it.
Jimmy and Miguel showed their credentials, and once the State Police confirmed their identities via radio, arrangements were made for others to clean up the scene, with the kidnapped drug addict taken back as well.
Jimmy and Miguel explained that they were investigating a group of drug traffickers and that these were unexpected developments. The black young man Jimmy captured was confined in the backseat of the patrol car, and would also be taken back for questioning.
Another black guy, Jimmy thought, seeing the black youth in the interrogation room was somewhat frustrating. The State Police had already verified his identity—another thug, an unemployed drifter. Such individuals were really troublesome, especially considering his physique, not that of a frail drug user. Clearly, he was a regular gang member, unlike the idle junkies on the street.
The kidnapping charge Jimmy's group brought up, he didn't refute, nor did he admit but simply requested to see a lawyer. This all indicated that he knew the rules and would be tough to crack quickly.
Miguel knocked on the interrogation room's door, and with a glance from Jimmy, left, leaving only a State Police officer inside keeping an eye on the young black man.
"Agent Gomez will be back tonight; he's already aware of what happened today."
Jimmy nodded, that worked too; let him handle it later. "Miguel, I'll leave this to you, alright?"
Miguel nodded, stepping into the interrogation room to take over from Jimmy and bringing the one State Police officer out. The transfer was quickly completed, with the black guy and the kidnapped drug addict turned over to the DEA.
-----------------
Steven Gomez returned quickly; he genuinely hadn't imagined that within a day, Jimmy and his team would encounter two consecutive cases. So, having set off to El Paso in the morning, he didn't rest for long before coming back, intending to stay a while and focus on handling this case.
"Tyrus, a bald black man, specific identity unknown; all we got was a name and an anonymous phone number."
Steven met with Jimmy at the restaurant, directly reporting their investigation results.
Jimmy: "No other information?"
Steven nodded, "It's tough to determine anything further, but we've already learned that they have been keeping an eye on Jesse. We might be able to get some information from there."
Jimmy: "Then keep monitoring; we don't have other options for now. Since you're back, I'll be preparing to head back."
Steven: "Thank you, Jimmy; you've helped us a lot."
Jimmy: "Don't mention it. It's all for Hank, our friend."
