Chapter 1445 779: Roland Taken to the Station
Chapter 1445 779: Roland Taken to the Station
Roland had left Jimmy's apartment, and despite Jimmy escorting him back to his hotel room, he didn't manage to get the location of the door out from Roland. It must be said that Roland had a strong sense of secrecy, as he refused to divulge the address to Jimmy, no matter what Jimmy said.
Jimmy was helpless in this situation. Faced with this old man, he couldn't do much. It wasn't as if he could hold a gun to Roland's head and make him talk, so he could only hope for another opportunity later.
Although Roland was getting on in years, he appeared to be in excellent physical condition. According to what they had discussed earlier, the Gunman's body was incredibly robust, and if he didn't engage in anything dangerous in the coming days, he might live a long life.
Actually, Jimmy wasn't in a hurry to find this door. At least for now, it seemed Roland still had a way to return; the rift in the cave was unlikely to disappear in just a few days. Judging by those two spiders, they should have been traveling back and forth through that rift for a while now.
Yet, despite not being in a rush, Jimmy was still very curious about the door that could shuttle between two worlds. This didn't have anything to do with whether he wanted to go to the Dark Tower; it was purely out of interest.
After Roland returned to the hotel room, he immediately sat on the bed. The possibility that Jimmy mentioned did indeed exist; if he wanted to return to the Dark Tower World quickly, using this door was the fastest way. But if it had really been dismantled, then there would be trouble.
In fact, there were two doors in New York: one was the door Jack used to go to the Dark Tower World, which was the one Roland had used before. The other was the door at the stronghold of the Organization in New York, but that door had been blown away during the large explosion when the Organization was destroyed. Roland and the others had visited afterward, and it had been repurposed for other uses. Naturally, the door there no longer existed, as anything with a distinctly different style would have surely been cleared away during the renovation.
Roland didn't want Jimmy to come into contact with the door before he agreed to go to the Dark Tower World. After all, this was about crossing between two worlds, and he was unsure what Jimmy would do if he knew about the door. Although the Dark Tower World was falling apart, it was still his homeland. If people recklessly interfered, the damage to that world could be even more severe.
However, completely ignoring it wasn't a solution either. Roland was currently restricted in his movements, and he needed to wait at least a few more days until he could move freely before he could inspect it; otherwise, his activities could easily be discovered.
Jimmy returned home and took out the Gunman's revolver. He had cleaned and purified it earlier, and the gun was still in working condition despite being left in the trash heap for so long. It went to show that the Gunman's guns were, indeed, specially made, sturdy, and corrosion-resistant, much stronger than modern firearms.
But Jimmy didn't plan to use this gun himself. He had two guns that he was very comfortable with, so there was no need to switch. As for this one, since Roland didn't intend to reclaim it, Jimmy could dispose of it as he saw fit.
Jimmy cleaned the barrel and cylinder again, applied gun oil, and tried his old underarm holster. Thankfully, while not as tailor-made, it should still be serviceable.
Jimmy planned to give this gun to Nia for self-defense, but he needed to take her to practice shooting first. Moreover, he didn't plan to let Nia use the .44 Magnum but opted for the .45 ACP like Roland. Though the recoil would be less, those unfamiliar with it would definitely find it awkward.
The Gunman's revolver was an old-fashioned 1875 model, with a grip and barrel angle completely different from modern semi-automatic pistols. When Jimmy initially switched from the Smith and Wesson 686-1 to these two revolvers, he needed time to adjust, and Nia would certainly require considerable practice as well.
With Roland recovering and Jimmy having nothing to do during his vacation, and with Nia being a detective not needing to report to work, Jimmy took Nia straight to the shooting range for gun practice.
Nia had long been interested in Jimmy's pair of revolvers, but Jimmy treasured them greatly, never letting her use them. Now that she got her hands on a similar model, she was, of course, very happy. However, after a few rounds of actual shooting, she just couldn't take it anymore.
The Gunman's handgun grip was set further back and lower, making the firing dynamics vastly different from what she was used to, leading to a low hit rate during shooting, even when Jimmy coached her hand-in-hand, she couldn't quickly adopt this firing habit.
Jimmy was too inexperienced in teaching, and after Nia endured Jimmy's nagging for a while, she quickly pushed him aside and repeatedly adjusted her grip and feel with the unloaded revolver in hand, while Jimmy could only stand helplessly behind the shooting stand, pulling out a revolver to practice left-hand shooting.
After messing around for a while, Nia placed the gun back on the stand, came up behind Jimmy, and patted him on the shoulder, "Jimmy, do you think Roland could teach me? He did say he could teach me that day."
Jimmy sighed, "That was just being polite. He rarely teaches others."
Nia replied, "Well, we should at least give it a try. Who knows, he might agree."
Jimmy looked at his watch and nodded, "Let's go back first, and I'll communicate with him. We'll come over once things are confirmed."
After packing up the shell casings and unused bullets, Jimmy and Nia settled the bill and left the range.
When Jimmy arrived at the hotel where Roland was staying, he discovered that Roland was not there. After asking the front desk, he learned that Roland had gone out on his own.
