Chapter 1408 - 760: Stirring the Grass to Scare the Snake (Part 2)

Peter: "Of course, is something the matter?"

Jimmy: "Yes, you know I'm investigating that wealthy guy's explosion case. I got some company and shareholder information from his widow, and she also gave me a bank statement. I've noticed a flow of hundreds of thousands of US Dollars here.

You know I'm not very familiar with finance. Could you help me see if there's anything unusual?"

Peter: "Why are you investigating this? Isn't it an explosion case?"

Jimmy: "Well, based on the current information, this is a typical murder for hire case, and the hitman is very professional, incredibly professional. There are no clear clues to identify the hitman's identity, so I have to first investigate the mastermind. Someone who can pay a lot of money to hire such professionals must have considerable hatred or conflict with the deceased, so..."

Peter: "Oh, I see, just fax it over."

Jimmy: "Thanks, I'll find a print shop to fax it to you later."

Peter didn't refuse at all, and he didn't sound troubled either. Jimmy happily hung up the phone. With someone like Peter who knows the finance industry well, this task will certainly be more interesting.

However, he didn't go out to fax immediately but continued to look at the other two sheets of paper, which also recorded information about two people. But this was much simpler, only basic information. If a deeper investigation is needed, it might take a lot of time. The person who gave the information is too lazy; they could have just given more detailed information.

Moreover, delivering the information secretively like this makes it more likely to be a setup. Jimmy put down the information, took a bottle of water and drank a couple of sips while leaning back in his chair, pondering the matter. Perhaps it's better not to investigate directly and let others also have a headache.

He picked up the phone and dialed Dave's number, but unfortunately, Dave was busy. After a while, Dave called Jimmy back, "Jimmy, what's up?"

Jimmy: "Yes, I received some anonymous information, and I thought you might be interested in looking at it. Also, I got some information about the Harriton Foundation from the deceased's widow."

Dave: "When did you get it?"

Jimmy: "The information came today, but two days ago, an anonymous person delivered an envelope with an address and a storage box key to the hotel where I'm staying, so the timing suggests they prepared the information even earlier."

Dave went silent for several seconds before speaking: "Okay, fax it over."

Dave gave Jimmy his fax number and quickly hung up the phone.

This was good. Jimmy organized the materials, dressed, and left the hotel. Finding a print shop in Los Angeles was so easy that soon two sets of information were faxed to Peter and Dave consecutively. After leaving the print shop, Jimmy found a roadside restaurant to eat something before returning to the hotel to rest.

It turned out that Jimmy's judgment was correct. Peter received the fax and, in just a few hours, called Jimmy that evening, "Jimmy, I think your suspicions have a good chance. Based on the current data, the person who prepared this for you has already identified a clear suspect."

Jimmy laughed and said, "It seems you've found quite a lot. Any crucial information?"

Peter: "Yes, I checked some additional information. Besides those two bank card records, other accounts also have unusual money flows, and the timing matches. In the past month, there have been many large transactions, but the receiving accounts include some shell companies. If we consider the context of a hired murder suspect, these funds could indeed be used for such payments. I'll email it to you later; make sure to check."

Also, these kinds of people are usually tough to deal with. If necessary, you can intimidate them a little. If need be, I can give you a number that should be helpful."

Jimmy: "Whose is it?"

Peter: "Someone from the IRS headquarters, but hopefully you won't have to use it. I met them after coming to DC; you know, not very familiar."

Jimmy: "Okay, that's great; at least I'll have some leverage. Thanks. Are you still at the office? You've probably worked overtime quite a bit, so rest early. Goodbye."

Jimmy opened his laptop and checked Peter's email, which contained scanned images of bank records with annotations by Peter on the irregularities he found, saving Jimmy the trouble of searching.

Until Jimmy went to rest, there was no news from Dave's side. It seemed there were some minor issues, presumably involving communication with someone. It didn't matter; Jimmy could handle the Harriton Foundation's matters first. Watching the excitement without feeling overwhelmed, after all, it wasn't like his life was in danger.

The next day, Jimmy got ready and drove to Bradley Lester's apartment, the second-largest shareholder of the Harriton Foundation. This was the location marked in the information provided by Mr. Harriton's widow. If you want to choose the best chance to meet Lester, it would definitely be at his apartment, and even if he's not there, someone else could notify him to come back soon.

Bradley Lester, of course, is also rich. Based on the data, he is a typical financial elite and is in charge of the Harriton Foundation's securities company. It's hard to believe he's a law-abiding and friendly citizen in this industry.

The "Skyline" building is a high-end apartment building. When Jimmy arrived downstairs, the security guard reminded him that they needed to verify the name of the person he was visiting, and they would notify them on his behalf.

Jimmy didn't refuse, as this was normal procedure for the security staff. After showing his ID and indicating he wanted to see Bradley Lester, the guard contacted someone via walkie-talkie, and after confirmation, they pressed the elevator button for him to go up.

Bradley Lester's apartment is on a high floor. Upon exiting the elevator, Jimmy noticed that there was one apartment on each side, and based on the floor plan seen through Heart Eye Vision, their apartment designs were mostly open-plan with extensive spaces.

There were security cameras near the hallway and elevator. Jimmy walked to the door and pressed the doorbell. A person who appeared to be a maid opened the door, and Jimmy said, "I'm FBI Agent Jimmy Yang. I need to see Mr. Lester."

"Please come in, Mr. Lester has been notified."

The maid led Jimmy into the apartment, where an enormous foyer was decorated with abstract art paintings, creating a blend of Renaissance and modernist atmosphere.

The living room was an open space equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows providing a direct view of the magnificent cityscape outside. Standing there, you'd certainly feel a sense of towering over everything, and at night, the city lights might add to the view's beauty.

Jimmy still felt a bit envious—this kind of apartment was something a salaried person like him couldn't touch. Damn rich people.

A middle-aged man with brown hair stood up from the sofa. Lester, according to the information, was about 60 years old but looked quite spirited. Maybe that's how well-off people maintain themselves.

Lester: "Good morning, Agent..."

Jimmy walked over to shake his hand: "Jimmy Yang, Supervisory Special Agent at FBI's New York office."

Lester gestured for Jimmy to sit down for a chat. Jimmy didn't exchange many courtesies with him as he wasn't there to solve a case, just to muddy the waters, so he didn't need to make friends.

"Mr. Lester, I'm here mainly to understand the situation surrounding Mr. Harriton's murder case.

Could you tell me if you traveled with Mr. Harriton a month ago to his island in the Virgin Islands? Where were you before Mr. Harriton was murdered?"

Lester's face changed color, staring at Jimmy and said, "Do you suspect me?"

Jimmy smiled at him and said, "Please don't be so agitated. I'm just trying to understand Mr. Harriton's and his associates' whereabouts."
