Chapter 1399 756: Reopening the Investigation
Jimmy was well aware of the security chief's intentions, to exert pressure everywhere that could potentially embarrass the FBI, providing them with bargaining chips. But now the case involved a kidnapping, unrelated to Jimmy, so even if he wanted to negotiate, it would be impossible.
Everyone there was from the Miami office, not a single familiar face. As for Agent Wright on their side, he was merely a senior agent, in essence, just a foot soldier. To have any say as a senior agent, one would need a background; otherwise, only through distinguished service, like Jimmy back then, would it be possible.
Having a clear understanding of this, Jimmy didn't waste time with the security chief and immediately chose to investigate on his own. Anyway, the residence of the security personnel had already been clarified, though they didn't know where the missing security guard lived, it was just a matter of searching more thoroughly. There were only a dozen people in total, not difficult.
On the island, there are two rows of small houses specifically for cleaners and security guards, while the villa complex has rooms designated for servants. Their duties differ, and so do their residences, all of which Jimmy and the team learned from the manager upon arrival.
Wright and Mark agreed with Jimmy's idea. In the event that the suspect responsible for the yacht explosion case landed on the island, he might have killed one of the security guards to ensure his movements remained hidden. Coincidentally, that security guard was off-duty, so others only knew he hadn't been at work these days, unaware if he had left or been harmed.
Therefore, Wright and Mark had no objections to Jimmy's request to conduct a thorough search of the security personnel's residence; given the lack of other clues, this was the best course of action. If they could locate the body, they might discover fingerprints or other clues on it.
Jimmy led Mark and Wright to the security residence. Since they weren't sure which room belonged to the missing security guard, they had to check each one individually. Fortunately, the search aimed to find a potential body, so they could skip small places. For safety reasons, the suspect wouldn't likely split and store the guard's body in different locations, as decay would easily give them away.
Boxes, cabinets, under beds—places where a person could be hidden were their focus, including the outdoor environment such as dense shrubs and woodlands.
The search process was not ideal, but after scouring many locations, Jimmy finally found something. Near their living area, Jimmy caught a barely noticeable foul odor, one that Mark and Wright did not perceive, which made it interesting.
Jimmy: "I do detect a slight smell. Look around; the body might be buried."
Mark had no objections to Jimmy's arrangements and directly walked a certain distance to start searching, while Wright scanned the nearby surroundings. Seeing no clear signs of burial, Wright voiced some doubts but also began searching, as Jimmy requested. Jimmy returned to the cleaner's quarters to fetch a couple of shovels from the tool shed they had checked earlier.
With heads down, Mark and Wright looked for potential burial marks on the ground. When Jimmy joined in, they started picking up speed.
"Found it! Jimmy, Wright, come over."
Mark raised his right hand, shouting while keeping his eyes on the ground. Jimmy and the team rushed over and looked under Mark's feet, where some vegetable peels had been kicked open, unlike the solidity of grass planted directly in other spots.
"How did you find it? Well done." Jimmy patted Mark with a smile. "I brought two shovels; Wright, give us a hand."
Wright turned to fetch the shovels from where Jimmy left them, while Mark, chuckling, said, "I was just guessing. In an environment like this, if you wanted to bury something without obvious surface traces, you'd likely peel back the grass, bury it, and then restore the grass—much like our football field—this could prevent exposure for a certain time. By the time it's exposed, the body below would likely be in an advanced state of decay."
Jimmy nodded, glancing at the surroundings. Nearby were bare earth and trees. If the earth were moved there, a few days of wind and rain would make it hard to detect. Mark had disturbed and trampled quite a bit of grass in his search location.
Still needing confirmation, when Wright fetched the shovels, Mark grabbed one and gently began digging the grass, delineating an area only when the turf transformed into solid earth.
Wright joined and started digging, finding fabric marks less than twenty centimeters down, along with the pungent odor increasingly emanating. Jimmy, idle, moved away to avoid the unpleasant smell, leaving Mark and Wright to fend for themselves.
Mark: "Bingo! Found it."
Jimmy: "Wright, are there any forensic team among the people who arrived with you? Get them over here."
Wright took out his phone, shovel tucked under arm, and began scrolling through contacts while moving away. He quickly dialed; with over a dozen people drawn from the Miami office, they had someone of every specialty. Soon, three agents were seen running over from the villa complex, waving from afar to confirm with Jimmy and the team.
