Chapter 1377 - 745: Kill
The three priests, an assistant, and Jimmy, a group of five, followed the tracks towards the nearby farm. This was a relatively typical farm with a residential building, next to a barn and an equipment warehouse. It looked like there weren't many people here; the residential building was small and single-story, so theoretically only the farm owner should be living here.
As they got closer to the buildings, everyone took out their weapons. The three priests carried pistols, while the assistant wielded an M16. Judging by the shape of the charging handle and the handguard, it appeared to be an M16A2, an older gun from the 1980s, but still serviceable.
Jimmy was relatively carefree; he carried a backpack filled with several Glock magazines and some loose .44 Magnum bullets, allowing him to quickly grab and use them without boxes. In another pocket of the backpack were dozens of 9mm bullets for the Glock. Lastly, strapped to the backpack was an MK3A2 offensive grenade, which Jimmy had specially requested after seeing the arsenal list, since the creature might be in a cave. Its shock effect was much better than fragmentation damage, and if it was indeed in a confined cave, it would definitely be a problem for the creature.
He drew two 1875 pistols as he followed them, waiting until they were within Heart Eye Vision range. Jimmy quickly noticed something was wrong; there were three individuals lying in various positions in the residential area. It was daytime, and such a situation should definitely not occur under normal circumstances.
"Be careful, it might be hiding here," Jimmy warned the group. He had to, as in the Heart Eye Vision, Jimmy couldn't see any figures with claws and long arms. This was the drawback of Heart Eye Vision; connected objects appeared as a whole to him, and he couldn't distinguish whether a complete object was tightly composed of multiple parts like normal vision could, based on color and different shapes.
Currently, Jimmy could confirm that the creature wasn't in the residential building. The barn and equipment warehouse were cluttered with things, making it difficult for him to distinguish if the shadow beast was hiding somewhere based on the strange silhouettes.
The leading priest said in a low voice, "Don't spread out, let's check each place one by one."
It was good; they didn't make the arrogant newbie mistake. In such situations, splitting up could lead to being ambushed by the shadow beast, and if someone got ambushed, they might not make it out.
First was the residential building. Upon seeing the damaged door, they didn't shout or call out, just walked straight in. Soon, they saw two middle-aged individuals and one elderly person inside, all of whom had died similarly, with bites on their necks and pale bodies. Only one middle-aged man had additional scratches, clearly caused by sharp claws, and judging by the depth, they appeared to be at least two to three centimeters deep. It was evident that the creature had struck heavily.
The search was conducted with great caution, with two people entering each room and two providing support at the door, while Jimmy stayed behind as backup. It was slow, but at least safe. The residential building was quickly searched, and there was no basement nor was the creature found.
There were too many items in the barn; after just a glance at the door, they decided to deal with it last and headed to the equipment warehouse first.
Just as the three priests entered the warehouse, gunfire rang out, "Bang, bang," Jimmy fired two shots and shouted loudly, "On the roof, be careful."
The creature had originally hidden well, watching as the three priests entered without anyone following closely behind. When the last priest walked beneath it, it quietly extended its long arm. This movement alerted Jimmy, who fired two shots, hitting its dangling arm and claw.
The shadow beast failed to harm the priest below and instead got wounded. It immediately retracted its arm, and a piercing screech erupted; except for Jimmy, the others staggered slightly as they turned to look towards the creature's location.
With its arm retracted, the shadow beast was already beyond Jimmy's direct line of sight. He immediately moved towards the door, his gun stably aimed at the shadow lurking on the roof. Having been discovered by Jimmy, its ability to continue hiding was greatly diminished. It had found a great hiding spot; the warehouse wasn't flat-roofed, and in the ridge area, reinforced wooden beams created a semi-enclosed space. When Jimmy checked earlier, it appeared pitch-black, assumed to be insulating material, but it turned out to be where the shadow beast was hiding.
The shadow beast's target had shifted to the door. As soon as Jimmy appeared at the doorway, the creature immediately crouched and pushed off the beam, launching itself at Jimmy like lightning.
The shadow beast was very fast; Jimmy managed to fire only one shot before tucking away his left-hand gun, using his right hand to block the creature's claw with his gun.
Roland's 1875 was extraordinarily durable; the shadow beast's claw struck the revolver without damaging it. It was only its immense strength that caused Jimmy's right hand to shift slightly.
Jimmy quickly retracted his left hand before swinging towards the shadow beast's head, attempting to smash it to the ground with the gun butt. However, the shadow beast cunningly tilted its head and forcibly twisted its body mid-air, transitioning from an inverted strike to a normal landing. It immediately crouched and pushed off the ground to evade Jimmy's sweeping kick, turning the offense into defense in an instant as they distanced from each other.
