Chapter 1327 721: Target
Chapter 1327 721: Target
Ruiz wasn't in a great mood either, having shared and drunk half a dozen beers with Jimmy. With nothing else to do, they started talking about Jimmy's investigation process over the past month.
Although it's been a relatively long time, over a month, the investigation itself wasn't particularly difficult. It's just that Jimmy has a far stronger advantage over others, so even when accidents occur, he can still make up for it directly, and it seems he's had a smooth journey all along.
Ruiz certainly didn't believe it would be that easy, especially since this is a case of kidnapping and human trafficking. If it were that simple, there wouldn't be tens of thousands of people disappearing without a trace every year.
As a somewhat inappropriate comparison, police and the FBI have countless bounties every year. Not many of those criminals get caught, even though the FBI headquarters has a special task force responsible for chasing major criminals, still unable to capture many dangerous individuals.
However, he noticed Jimmy's mood seemed pretty good. Even after being out and about for over a month, he only appeared slightly fatigued, mainly due to insufficient rest time. It didn't cause any slack; it seemed Jimmy genuinely enjoyed handling these cases. Staying in the office long-term truly isn't ideal.
This further strengthened his resolve. The case Jimmy and Hope are working on is registered at headquarters and involves multiple branches. Once it's concluded, the impression scores Jimmy and Hope can gain will far exceed typical cases. If someone drags them to headquarters, the New York office would suffer greatly.
After finishing the beers, Ruiz stood up: "Well, I'm going home to rest. Heading back to New York tomorrow. Take care here. If you need to go to Juarez later, ensure your safety. You are more important than others."
Jimmy stood to see him off, "Don't worry, I'm doing alright."
Ruiz: "You should rest. If arrangements are finalized later, someone will contact you. This time, it's an official mission with multi-department cooperation."
Jimmy nodded, which meant previously contacted anonymous numbers wouldn't be given to outsiders. If someone contacted him, it would definitely be through his official phone.
Ruiz left early the next morning. Jimmy just greeted him, not even having breakfast. It was clear he had acted privately on this trip, working hard for half a month, finally wrapping things up. It was likely Ruiz would have a slightly smoother time after returning.
The investigation in Albuquerque was still proceeding intensively, with Hope representing headquarters to follow up throughout. He brought back the current investigation progress for Jimmy after returning from work, allowing him to understand the case progress and being a most competent tool.
Surveillance videos of Jimmy and Steven had all been extracted, with a joint DEA and FBI team formed for video verification, targeting their inquiry record verification. Of course, Jimmy was very certain he wouldn't leave any clues in the videos; otherwise, his act would have been in vain.
Everything seemed normal until the third day when Hope brought back the testimonies of the apprehended individuals. Jimmy suddenly discovered two people were missing, "Hope, is this everything?"
Hope nodded, "I understand what you mean. Yes, this is all there is."
Jimmy frowned at Hope: "Let's not discuss another one for now. I remember there was still a scumbag here captured on the third floor..."
Hope interrupted Jimmy: "No, I verified all the detained individuals today, matching the number of testimonies."
Jimmy took a deep breath. They did a good job; these were people temporarily detained in the FBI office building, not transferred to a detention center yet, and two people just disappeared? How powerful is the person behind this to clean things up so thoroughly?
Jimmy nodded, handing the documents back to Hope: "Then, those three underage girls, how did they get to the club? Has this been investigated?"
Hope nodded, "There is some unconfirmed information. The three weren't brought to Albuquerque together; they were sent one by one over time, and all three are illegal immigrants. The most recent came over from the US-Mexico border more than six months ago, was kidnapped afterward, and was unsure of her location."
Jimmy: "So the source of the club's underage prostitutes is likely the kidnapping ring, and their target is essentially border illegal immigrants, well then, it's not closely related to our investigation anymore."
Hope: "This can't be confirmed temporarily. Club managers apprehended three, but they persistently claimed they knew nothing, only operating the club for money. Drugs and women here were not handled by them. The Albuquerque office is currently investigating the past of these three, along with their relatives and social connections, hoping to make progress later."
Jimmy: "OK, I understand. Thanks for your effort, Hope."
Hope took the documents and stood up: "Then I'm going to rest."
Jimmy watched Hope leave his room, closed the door, and punched the bathroom wall. These people went too far; this is the US-Mexico border in New Mexico, not drug lord-dominated Mexico daring to threaten government officials, executing a blatant cleanup on a suspect. It must be a big figure who within a day or two established the entire chain, ensuring no one would mention this matter, with considerable cost and a hefty price.
