Chapter 1298 - 708: Arrest and Rescue
Hope quickly left the area, and Jimmy found a densely wooded spot, moved a few branches to make a cushion, and sat down to wait.
For him, keeping Heart Eye Vision on all day was no hassle. If anyone approached the forest, he would definitely notice, but it would be difficult for others to find him. They'd have to enter the forest and get quite close. His position was absolutely safe.
After leaving the forest, Hope drove slowly, looking for visible surveillance locations. However, he was overthinking it. The residents here had no interest in installing surveillance cameras outside their homes. Given their current state, anything involving spending money was unlikely to interest them.
Frowning as he circled the area, Hope had to admit that he overestimated this small town. Even Washington, D.C., did not cover most surveillance, so here it was a given. The local government surely had financial strains, and the police department definitely didn't have the funds for comprehensive surveillance equipment.
As for tracing someone by the motorcycle in surveillance, it was hopeless. The surveillance was on a tree within the forest, and getting a glimpse of someone riding the motorcycle over was already a feat. The license plate couldn't be captured, and the rider was too wrapped up. All the clues were uncertain.
While heading back to the hotel, he called headquarters. After everything was in place, he bought a batch of food and water, loaded it onto the car to deliver to Jimmy. They certainly had to take turns monitoring; some of it would also be for Hope's shifts.
Jimmy and Hope took turns monitoring for two days before encountering a vehicle that seemed linked to their target. An old-looking sedan approached, and Hope got up and went to the side, called Jimmy to alert him of someone's arrival. The hotel was a bit away, so even if they didn't see anyone getting out of the car, he needed to notify Jimmy. No one had passed this road in the past two days, making it the first car besides those of Jimmy and Hope.
Drawing his Glock for caution, the car smoothly stopped at the forest's edge. Two men got out, looked around, walked to the trunk, and shortly pulled a person out from inside.
Due to the distance, Hope couldn't clearly see the person in the trunk, but judging by hair length, it seemed to be a woman. One man carried the woman from the trunk to a cabin, while the other closed the trunk, opened the rear door to take a bag, and followed the first man into the forest cabin.
Hope watched them enter the cabin and glanced at his watch. Based on the distance from the hotel and his calculations over the past two days, Jimmy would take close to ten minutes to arrive. This was somewhat troublesome; there were two people, and controlling them alone would be challenging. The current distance made it hard to see if the two were armed, but given their criminal activities, they theoretically should have guns.
Hope shifted his position and waited a few minutes. The two inside seemed to have locked the person in the cabin and were coming out. As they locked the door and were about to leave, Hope couldn't wait any longer. If they reached their car, he couldn't stop them since he didn't have a vehicle; Jimmy had taken it.
Hope immediately emerged from behind the tree, raised his Glock, and shouted loudly, "FBI, don't move, raise your hands."
The two were completely caught off guard by someone staking out there. Their position was in front of the cabin, right between Hope and the cabin. Their previous negligence left them empty-handed, the one at the rear still holding keys, trying to pocket them.
Faced with Hope holding a gun, the two slowly raised their hands. Hope kept shouting at them to keep their hands up but didn't approach, standing by the tree.
Seeing Hope not intending to come closer and no other people appearing, they likely assumed he was alone and suddenly dashed to the side. Their actions were almost simultaneous; Hope only fired one shot before they hid behind a nearby tree.
Hope was merely trying to stall for time. Jimmy was probably two to three minutes away, and if the two stayed with hands raised on the ground, he could have captured them smoothly. But in that brief moment, they managed to run.
Hope chased one person through the forest. The opponent did not completely refrain from counterattacking; they exchanged several shots, all missing either because of poor aim or hitting trees. Both ran and fired with little effect. The person ahead seemed quite familiar with the area, running even slightly faster than Hope.
Jimmy's pace wasn't slow. Seeing the parked car on the roadside, he stopped, drew his gun, and rushed into the forest. The sound of gunfire could still be heard. Since shots had been fired, Hope must've engaged with the target.
Jimmy was considerably faster than Hope and his target, entering the forest and soon spotting Hope pursuing someone with Heart Eye Vision. However, he didn't see the person being chased, so he continued forward, calling out as he neared Hope, letting him know he was there. Then he dashed forward, overtaking Hope and closing in on the person ahead, taking a shot through a gap in the trees.
His shooting was certainly much more efficient than Hope's, hitting the foe's thigh in one shot. The person stumbled briefly, then hid behind a tree, firing several shots back, causing Jimmy and Hope to take cover behind nearby trees. Their speed was somewhat brisk, crashing into trees in the process.
