Chapter 1289 703: Peter's Dilemma

Chapter 1289 703: Peter's Dilemma

Hope turned on the signal light and made a direct turn at the intersection. Soon, they arrived at a cemetery area. "This is the place. It's very quiet here; hardly anyone comes by usually."

Jimmy nodded, opened the car door, and got out, looking around. It was indeed very quiet here, apart from three people standing at a grave in the distance, there was no one else to be seen.

Hope also got out of the car, "I need to go to the bathroom, it might take five minutes. Wait for me for a while."

Jimmy: "Uh, go ahead."

Hope nodded, didn't look at Mark sitting in the back of the car, and left directly.

Jimmy watched Hope leave, took the gloves out of his pocket, opened the back door of the car, and looked at Mark: "I'm in a bad mood right now, really pissed off, I hope you can cooperate a bit."

Before Mark could speak, Jimmy slowly put on disposable gloves. Once he made sure they were on correctly, he quickly stretched out his left hand to cover Mark's mouth and nose, and punched his abdomen with his right hand. Mark tried to bend over but was pressed down against the seat back by Jimmy, forced to curl his legs and struggle hard.

Jimmy kept his left hand covering Mark's mouth, releasing his nose just enough for Mark to let out a few muffled groans, but didn't let go of the control: "I'll give you one chance, who was supposed to deliver the girl to you before? Think carefully and nod if you want to answer."

Mark curled his legs, his body shaking left and right. Jimmy slapped his legs with his right hand, knocking his curled legs apart, and then punched his abdomen again, "Speak, where did the girl come from?"

-----------------

A few minutes later, Hope saw Jimmy standing in front of the car smoking from afar, and finally walked back.

Jimmy tossed the cigarette butt to the ground and stomped on it, "Let's go, we're heading back."

Hope didn't say anything, opened the car door, got in, started the car, and drove away from the cemetery area. From the rearview mirror, Hope could see that Mark's spirit didn't seem great, but there were no visible wounds, which was good because Mark had attempted to flee, and there had been a minor scuffle during the arrest, which was relatively easy to explain. It was just uncertain whether it would leave any leverage for him to counter-sue.

Jimmy didn't care about Hope's thoughts as he had already gotten what he wanted and also issued a bit of a threat. Mark's cousin killed two FBI agents near his home, and they happened to be investigating the case of imprisoned girls. Mark was definitely implicated, especially with the girl found in his basement today. If he didn't want anything to happen to him in prison, there were certain things he should avoid doing.

Jimmy was careful with his actions, not leaving Mark with any visible external injuries. He mostly struck his belly and legs to cause significant pain without causing additional harm. If a doctor checks, basically nothing would be found.

Returning to FBI headquarters didn't take much time. Throughout the journey, Mark didn't say a word. Jimmy occasionally glanced over to prevent Mark from secretly attempting to undo his handcuffs again, but all the way to the office parking lot, Mark took no action, seeming to have a feeling of complete surrender.

Peter took over Mark with a few people, leading him to the interrogation room, while he led Jimmy and Hope to his office, "Good job, Jimmy."

Jimmy: "I was just lucky. Peter, is there no problem with the arrest warrant? Maybe now we can change the application reason."

Peter shook his head: "Don't worry, I'll handle it. How did you find out he had problems?"

Jimmy: "It was just speculation, as we discussed earlier. Agent Becker and the others had the incident near Mark's home, and the killer was Mark's cousin, so he's a considerable suspect. Arresting him and then interrogating him is much easier than our investigation, but the procedures are not so easy to handle."

Peter sighed, "How's the girl?"

Jimmy: "Not sure yet, an agent accompanied her to the hospital, waiting on the news. But it looks pretty bad, that girl must have been imprisoned for quite some time and subjected to abuse."

Peter: "What are your thoughts? On the follow-up investigation."

Jimmy: "Let's continue investigating, perhaps this time we'll gain a lot."

Peter nodded, "Do you want to participate in the interrogation?"

Jimmy: "No, you guys handle the interrogation."

Peter nodded, "Then you can go back and rest for a bit; I'll have someone notify you if there are updates."

Jimmy left Peter's office, and Peter began asking Hope what happened in this investigation. Hope was essentially with Jimmy the whole time, so he didn't know exactly how Jimmy decided to directly arrest Mark, as Jimmy simply raised the idea of arresting Mark in the car, without conducting any on-site investigation, which fully matched the speculation reason Jimmy mentioned earlier.

Peter understood all the investigation details, including Hope leaving the car at last to find a bathroom while leaving Jimmy and Mark together for a few minutes, then arranged for Hope to find someone to interrogate. Peter returned to his desk and revisited Mark's file.

This is a man who's been in prison, and it was for sexual misconduct. In prison, such individuals are at the bottom, even if protected by gang members, they're still despised by other inmates. This means he's experienced the darkest side of prison, providing a basis for intimidation, and it appears Jimmy did this very discreetly. When they took over Mark, he didn't resist nor did he loudly complain, indicating Jimmy had already obtained some intelligence. What does he want to do?

Peter isn't the same as the field agent he used to be, investigating white-collar cases; he has more things to consider now, including the arrangements for Jimmy afterward.

The reason why he asked Jimmy earlier whether he wanted to participate in the interrogation was based on various reasons, this case needs to allow agents at headquarters here to share some of the credit. Jimmy had completed the preliminary investigation and capture, give others a chance to participate in the interrogation, and ultimately the credit could go to the investigation team, with others involved in field tasks if there are further investigations and arrests.

But now Jimmy got the intelligence in advance, does this mean he wants to handle the follow-up himself?

This case of imprisoning a girl, if it's an isolated case, then the follow-up would only involve contacting the girl's family and interrogating Mark before closing the case and submitting it to the Federal Prosecutor. However, this isn't an isolated case, it's derived from a case of transporting an abducted, imprisoned girl, indicating they might be a gang, possibly exchanging the imprisoned girls rather than kidnapping them themselves, meaning follow-up investigations could involve multiple states and regions, which is a related major case.

If handed over to Jimmy to handle, what arrangements should be made here?

These are all concerns for Peter, he can't just send Jimmy back to Manhattan, as this case's biggest credit belongs to Jimmy; it can only belong to Jimmy, and others can at most take minor credits from the sidelines, ensuring Jimmy can't return to Manhattan.

In the evening, Peter brought a six-pack of beer to the hotel where Jimmy was staying, knocked on the door, and entered the room. He raised the beer in his hand and said to Jimmy, "I brought some beer, let's have a drink together."

Jimmy smiled and took it, both sitting on the sofa, each opening a can: "Peter, how did your interrogation go?"

Peter: "We already have results, and the girl's examination is completed too. Her identity is confirmed, we notified her parents, they'll be here tomorrow."

Jimmy: "How's she doing?"

Peter: "Multiple bruises on her body, signs of rape, and she's in very poor mental condition. She's been missing for a year now, according to the inquiries from the psychological expert, she was moved before, and this is the third place she's stayed."

Jimmy: "Damn Mark."

Peter: "Jimmy, are you interested in continuing the investigation? Maybe this will be a long-term task, such investigations could last several months."

Jimmy: "Is it possible? I am still from the Manhattan office."

Peter: "As long as you're willing."
